Ok, this may be old news. If so, I'm sorry, I hadn't heard it anywhere and thought it was interesting.
So I work at the local WalMart, and had to print the labels for our price changes in the toy department today. The price changes included upc numbers and labels for all the WWE Mattel 2packs that have been released, even though we haven't had half of them at our store. While doing this, I came across a few interesting tags for some 2packs that were never released. They were probably substituted before they hit store shelves or something.
CM Punk / Joey (I can only assume its supposed to be Joey Mercury)
Kaval / Alex (I'm guessing Alex Riley)
Truth / Benjamin
Jeff / Matt Hardy
Jesse / Festus
This isnt' huge news, but I found it interesting. Its cool seeing what could have been. I have the upc's if for some reason anyone would want them.

Damn it I wanted Kaval. I know Mattel confirmed they were working on Kaval around the time he left. The Punk/Joey pack getting scrapped is a little shocking. I was under the assumption they were working on Serena but Mercury would have been a cool surprise.

Would have definitely gotten Punk/Mercury. Kaval would have been cool if it was Elite, RA would have been too boring. I'll stick with the TNA release, it blends in well with Mattel, has the "Elite" body style. And I have both variants.

Look I am not calling you a Liar, but there is no way a jesse/Festus two pack was planned, considering that Jesse and Festus broke up waaaay before Mattel Took over the Lineup.

Honestly, i believe you dude. Jesse and Festus coul've been planned, you never know. You had caught my attention with the Hardy's, but both work for TNA now. (I believe matt does).

Jesse and Festus could have easily been planned for one of the first 2pack sets, as we saw Finlay and Hornswoggle and Miz and Morrison very early on. I saw 2packs 1 and 2 on January 1, 2010 at Kmart so if you figure Mattel went into design early in 2009 then it is plenty feasible in my mind that Jesse and Festus were going to get the 2pack treatment.
The rest are no question imo. Joey and Punk makes plenty of sense as I assume Mattel had the intention of making the entire SES in figure form, and then with the other sets it was just a situation of Jeff, Kaval, and Benjamin leaving the company, and the sets not being far enough along where they couldn't be scrapped.

Kaval was one of my favorites. Would have been cool to get him.

Look I am not calling you a Liar, but there is no way a jesse/Festus two pack was planned, considering that Jesse and Festus broke up waaaay before Mattel Took over the Lineup. Mattel planned and released figures of several superstars after they were fired by WWE. Luke Gallows, Shelton Benjamin, Mickie James, MVP, Hurricane, Mike Knox, i think all of them are examples where mattel had plenty of time to cancel the figures and didn't, if i remember correctly. so mattel it seems does sometimes continue plans to make figures of superstars even when they've left WWE. i'd assume the same is true for teams/gimmicks that are no longer going.

Damn it I wanted Kaval. I know Mattel confirmed they were working on Kaval around the time he left. The Punk/Joey pack getting scrapped is a little shocking. I was under the assumption they were working on Serena but Mercury would have been a cool surprise. Thats cool, I hadn't heard of them working on the Serena. But I could see them making her before they made Mercury, because she was with the SES for awhile longer than Joey. Actually this one did surprise me, because Joey Mercury's stint with Punk and the SES was rather short. But thats what the tag said, so I don't know. Look I am not calling you a Liar, but there is no way a jesse/Festus two pack was planned, considering that Jesse and Festus broke up waaaay before Mattel Took over the Lineup. As punksnotdead stated, and I've heard elsewhere before, the planning stage of these figures can take place close to a year or so before the figure actually makes it to the stores. A good example being the Elite series 3 Shawn Michaels, it was released early to mid 2010, but the Tshirt was the same design of shirt that I had bought in February 2009. So I could see Jesse/Festus being in the planning stage, and then getting scrapped closer to production time. I know that a Jeff Hardy was planned in either the basic or elite line, but was canceled because of him leaving the WWE, but I hadn't heard about the 2pack with Matt. I would assume it would be Jeff vs Matt as they had feuded more often than they teamed during the previous year. (Great match at WMania, and the Stretcher Match rematch, btw) Kaval would have been cool. Whats interesting about that set is that even thought they were in the planning stage, we just now have seen the Alex Riley prototype from ComicCon. I would upload a pic of the labels, but i don't have them on me. If they didn't get thrown away, they're at my house. I had to bring them with me so I would remember to get on here and let you guys know about them.

Kaval and Riley makes sense. Wasn't it even hinted at by Mattel during one of their interviews?
