New Yorkers take their fictional heroes seriously, so it may come as a shock to some that Peter Parker, the Queens native whose destiny was forever altered by a radioactive/genetically altered spider, has been killed off in the “Ultimates” imprint of Marvel Comics. The Ultimate series is different from Marvel’s standard line, in which Peter Parker is still happily toiling away as everybody’s favorite hard-luck hero. No, in the Ultimates series, Peter Parker gets killed at the hands of his nemesis the Green Goblin. But, being a comic book series, no hero stays dead for long. While Peter Parker may be gone, a new kid is stepping into the tights: Miles Morales. Miles Morales is a half-black, half-Hispanic super-powered teen who gets into the hero game after being inspired by Parker’s death. “He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view,” writer Brian Michael Bendis told the Associated Press. Bendis, who has been writing Ultimate Spider-Man (and many other) comics for Marvel since 2000, is enthusiastic about the change. “I’m now sitting with a pile of legitimately new Spider-Man stories to tell and that is the best news a writer could have.” No word on whether the change in ethnicity is going to play a role in casting decisions in upcoming Spider-Man movies or Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/08/02/new-spider-man-swinging-into-comic-book-shops-following-death-of-peter-parker/comment-page-5/#comment-277596

Black spider-man won't have a impact films. It's only in Ultimates which has sucked for the last few years anyway.

I can't imagine them casting a half black, half hispanic person in a production subtitled "Turn Off the Dark"

This would never tie in with the Spider-Man films. Although it would be kinda cool...

Doesn't really matter to me since it's in the Ultimate-verse, but it's kind of interesting I'll give 'em that.

As I said in the comic board I'm really looking forward to this, I know it isn't going to be permanent because there's no way you can really kill off Peter Parker even in the Ultimates universe, but it's still a cool change.

Interesting that people cast the Ultimate Universe aside and say this doesn't matter. Ultimate Spider-Man has long been the definitive source for the character for a lot of people. I'm interested in seeing where this goes and will continue reading the book.

We all know how much of an amazing success Jon Stewart was.

Wow...What a week! Found out about the joke they made of Thundercats and now they change the alter-ego of Spider-Man. Now what are they going to change; make He-Man a short, fat Chinese?

Ultmate Fury was based on Samuel L. mother in' Jackson long before the Iron Man movie was made. It was luck and happenstance that they were actually able to get him for the movie.

According to Wikipedia, the Ultimate Marvel universe was launched in 2000-2001ish. Iron Man came out in 2008. I don't think the movie influenced the Ultimate Nick Fury character at all.

I'm all set with this, I'll just stick to classic Spiderman stuff. Ultimate Marvel is garbage anyway.
