I like to consider myself somewhat of an expert on this line, but I must say, No Spam has NEVER seen that Mean Gene. I prefer it to the one that was released.
Nice!

Karma? just joking
I wished we could get pictures of the Bad News Brown and Smash Protos.. rumor has it that they were at the Toyfair that year in 1989/1990
In Brown's shoot interview he talks about it with the rfvideos.com that's when he said that Hogan, Savage, Vince, Piper, & Andre hate black people and that is why his figure was never released. I don't understand why hating black people would stop his figure?
other black wrestlers of the LJN that were released: SD Jones (red shirt) SD Jones (yellow shirt) Koko B Ware
Brown is just to pissed off about the WWF and him getting fired by Vince.. oh well.

The Mean Gene prototype definitely looks better than the released version. He looks heavier and more realistic.

thanks bro.. karma back at you..
this is my thing.. unreleased figures... that is what I do.. look for them...that is why I did a big thread that the Log started about jakks figures. There were tons of them..
those unreleased Jakks figures are more easier to get cuz they are fresh. The internet was around when they have been making there run. Back when we were kids buying up the LJN's and Hasbro's.. there was no internet. All we had was that Wrestling Ring Catalog that was on the back of PWI Mag. Then Grand Toys took over.

That Mene Gene is incredible. I have been collecting carded and loose LJN's for the past 22 years and I have NEVER seen that figure. Wow! That is amazing! There looks to be a page number (5422) on the ad. I wonder if that was from a wish book or catalog or something that had 5000 pages! that would be an item or collection # depending on where that pic came from. I too have never seen that pic before and I have to say... I think I like that Gene better than what was released. How is it that this pic just surfaced in 2008 on this site?

That Mean Gene is neat. I do not have not one single LJN figure. I am interested in getting into them, but I would just stick to Jakks. I was just a baby when the LJN figures were out.

I actually prefer the Mean Gene that was released because it had the microphone. Though the positioning of his hands made it a little hard to do interviews believably, but it still worked okay. I would love to have that version two. Looks like Gene and Hogan were the only two to get re-sculpts yeah?

Thank you for sharing that Mean Gene pic! That's really something.
I just visited that Big Brother Figures museum site that was mentioned just a few posts back and saw the WCW Galoob prototypes of robed Ric Flair and Ricky Morton for the first time just a few minutes ago. Man, that Flair figure is amazing.

Here's King Haku and navy blue Rick Rude. Adonis with scarfs is on just about every LJN cardback. I hadn't seen this ad in 20 years. thank you for posting. I remember since these were $16.99 (!) I had to save up money as a kid to get 'em, but I got 'em except for the bottom 3. They could have given Beefcake a makeover, but they did not and still had the gall to rename the same figure "The Barber".

I don't think it looks anywhere near as good as the Mean Gene that was actually released!I t's just some little midget with a face that doesn't resemble Mean Gene at all! And he isn't holding his mic. Give me the released version over that one any day.
