HUGE fight, literally. Insane.
Although, I question them putting Lesnar in there with Overeem in his return fight.

It's also worth noting that this event will be on a FRIDAY, since Saturday is New Year's Eve.

bad matchup for brock, unless hes spent this entire time off getting hit in the face with a mallet.

I think Brock's gonna pull off the surprise win here.

Is it fair to say that the winner of this fight gets the winner of Velasquez/Dos Santos?

I really wanna see this fight, but this is not a good business decision to build up a returning Brock Lesnar. A lot of people are voting against him, so hopefully he can pull off a suprise victory.

Is it fair to say that the winner of this fight gets the winner of Velasquez/Dos Santos? Dana already stated that the winner will indeed be the #1 contender

From a business standpoint, I definitely think the wiser move would have been Brock/Mir III, but from a competitive standpoint, Brock/Overeem is the best possible fight to make right now and I absolutely cannot wait for it to go down. This will be a very interesting stylistic match-up in that Overeem has an obvious and significant striking advantage, arguably moreso than any other opponent Brock has or could face with his K-1 accomplishments. With that said, Brock Lesnar has yet to be unable to take a single opponent he's faced down, even taking Velasquez down twice amidst an absolute shellacking.
So with this, how do you guys see the rest of the division shaking out with Nogueira, Mir, Carwin, and Schaub all basically waiting on future opponents? Nogueira/Mir II seems obvious enough, and so does Carwin/Schaub however they do train together. What do ya'll think?

It should be noted by the way that with the signing of Alistair Overeem, inevitably in 2012, the UFC Heavyweight Champion will be the undisputed linear champion of the sport.

Overeem by KO in the 1st or 2nd. The only way Brock wins this is if he rushes Overeem gets him down and keeps him there the whole fight. Reem, a K-1 standout vs. Lesnar on the feet? Should be clear who wins that.

The Reem turned down an instant title shot apparently. It's a big risk, but if he wins then it will give him more mainstream exposure with a win over Brock. www.fightersonlymagazine.co.uk/news/viewarticle.php?id=761806/09/11 - Exclusive: Overeem talks UFC deal, Lesnar, title shot Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will fight former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 140 on December 30th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner of the fight will get a title shot against the winner of the upcoming Cain Velasquez/Junior Dos Santos fight. Fighters Only staff writer John Joe O’Regan spoke with Overeem shortly after UFC president Dana White broke the news that the Dutchman had signed with the promotion. FO: Alistair, thanks for talking to us and congratulations on finally landing in the UFC. Its been something fans have wanted for a while. How are you feeling right now? I’m very excited. Its a big day for me and for my team Golden Glory. It looked like a deal was on the cards for a couple of weeks, talks had been going well and we just had to work some things out. I’m looking forward to fighting Brock Lesnar on December 30th. I think its a great match. And after that I will get a title shot. FO: Has the UFC said there’s a title shot for the winner? Yes this is a contender bout. The winner gets a title shot. FO: Was that something you pushed for in the deal, one fight then a title shot if you win? I was actually offered an immediate title shot but I would have had to wait first of all for the fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos and then the winner of that fight would have needed to rest, then they would have had to have a training camp to fight me… it would have been the middle of next year before I got to make my first fight in the UFC. FO: So you didn’t want to wait that long; was Brock Lesnar the only name that was offered to you or were there some options? I am fighter that likes to keep busy and so we looked at some other options and at what names were available. A couple of names came up and Brock Lesnar was one of them. I liked the match, he liked the match and so we signed it. FO: You’re one of the top strikers in MMA and Lesnar is a top-end wrestling talent. It seems like your strength is his weakness and vice versa. Lesnar will be the best wrestler you have faced and the UFC is full of strong wrestlers; your thoughts on that? Well, its not something that really bothers me. I have been doing this for a long time myself and I will be approaching the fight very scientifically. There will be good wrestlers in the training camp and I will be ready. One thing I can tell you for definite, this fight will not be going the distance. FO: Recently a lot of Golden Glory fighters were released by Zuffa after a dispute. Does your deal mean they are back on good terms? Well, they are definitely back on speaking terms and hopefully the issues can be resolved and they can work it all out. FO: Can you tell us some details of the contract, number of fights, number of years? I can’t disclose details of the contract. FO: No problem; but its a multi-fight contract, right? [pause, background noise] I’m sorry, I can’t disclose anything about the contract. FO: Final thing, you were actually nominated this year in the Fighters Only World Mixed Martial Arts Awards 2011 as International Fighter of the Year. So if you win that and with the UFC debut in December, that’s a pretty cool way to end the year... Yeah I’m very excited, its the second time. I won it last year, that was cool, thanks to all the fans, so lets see what this year brings.

He didn't want to wait. That's a fine reason to not accept the fight.
