Hey all,
As I am currently in life limbo ( not knowing what I want to return to college for ) and have currently been working at Taco Bell I recently started looking for a new job. I've started my way to possibly working at a AT&T call center office. The pay and benefits are obviously way better than my current.
I was wondering if anyone had any related experience or know anyone who has and what their opinions were.
I figure it really cant be worse than fast food. ><

I'm actually considering trying out a job with them as well, as I too am going to college starting next year, so I'm pretty curios as well. Your sig is amazing, btw.

Is it inbound or outbound? (Do they call you or do you cold call people?)
My wife was a manager at a call center that had AT&T for a client and she said is one one of the better clients to work for as they handled inbound tech and sales questions.
Call centers have some crappy entry-level jobs but if you stick with it, you can climb the ladder pretty quickly, due to the crazy turn-over.
Can you work both for a bit to see how things go? Benefits are very, very nice these days.

I believe it is inbound.
I possibly can, but my current job doesnt really believe in giving me a somewhat regular schedule even though I've been there 3 years and have been a manager at one point.

I would give it a try then. More money and benefits is a very nice reason to not pass on it. Go with your gut, though.
From what I remember, the schedule was pretty much set every week at the call center where my wife worked. I can't say that would be your case.
Good luck!

I've done customer service for them. I work for an outsourcing company and that is one of the clients. I didn't hate it, it can be cool, I sometimes got to see phones and actually play around with them before they were released, got a discount on my phone bill, etc. But it can also be very stressful.
I still work for the company, but they have me on a different client which I get to work at home on and obviously I'd never trade that to go back to taking AT&T calls, but it's not a bad job by any means.

I haven't worked there (the closest I'm to it is my brother worked at a Sprint call center), but I would say be prepared to be yelled at. AT&T has a reputation for bad service quality (especially in high population centers) so there's a lot of hate for that company by many of its customers. I would imagine that anyone who has to call AT&T for support and has already had experiences like I've described is going to make sure you hear about it.

I work at an inbound call center for a bank, easiest job on the planet. It pays well, and there's plenty of down time, although it can get boring and monotonous pretty quick.

I used to work for call center. It was help desk but it was a good beginning and you can move up in the company. The job can be easy depending on the responsibilty you will have. If you going to read from a script then it should be easy. I started taking calls but I was promoted to 2nd level support and then QA so I would take like 2 or 3 calls a day. Job was a piece of cake. Lots of free time but then managers wanted to be pricks and not allow personal Internet usage and used cell phones on the job while I had nothing to do. Luckily I found a better job and with there part time for a short period of time.
