The forums on Matty Collector has 'Ask Mattel-WWE' forum, and I asked what happened to 2-Packs 12 (this was before the Q&A that wfigs posted).
My Question: Online retail sites are listing Series 11 (Uso's, Drew/Cody, Undertaker/Kane) & Series 13 (ARy/Miz, Cody/Rey, Truth/Cena), but no Series 12. Did Series 12 get skipped?
Answer: You heard it here first: in 2012 two-Packs will no longer have series numbers! So Series 11 is in fact the last numbered series of two-packs. The next series is indeed ARy/Miz, Cody/Rey, Truth/Cena so the online sites listing them as Series 13 are going off of incorrect information.
Now, they only say 2-Packs, but the leaked Vickie carding would support that it will be across all 3 of the assortments, so I posted a follow up question to attempt to get it cleared.
If this was asked in the Q&A, and answered, I apologize, but I must have missed it.

When the vickie packaging was shown this was exactly what i thought it may be. Just doing running numbers rather than actual defined series numbers like flexforce. Its fine by me providing it doesnt confuse retailers as to what to purchase and such.

I agree, it seems like Mattel is doing away with it overall, as the DC figures are going to be no longer numbered series after DCUC 20.

seems like it could be confusing for parents who mostly check for set numbers

I wish Mattel was more consistent.
I dislike the change in carding when we collect moc. Just make one good packaging and stick with it like Jakks Classic.
Also it's obvious Mattel is reducing the amount of plastic bubble which costs money. Vickie's figure confirms that.
Shoplifters are going to have an easy time ripping off the bubble now.

Yea it's going to be confusing to tell someone you want a specific figure...so now I'm gonna be all like: "I want John Cena in the lighter shorts instead of the dark ones" as opposed to "I want John Cena from series 5, but not series 8"

Also it's obvious Mattel is reducing the amount of plastic bubble which costs money. Vickie's figure confirms that. No it doesn't, it's not about cost. This was announced months ago - Toy giant Mattel Inc. on Friday announced that it is developing a "sustainable procurement policy" to avoid using packaging that contributes to deforestation. The statement came amid accusations from environmental advocacy group Greenpeace that the El Segundo-based company's toy packaging hurts the giant Indonesian rain forest. "Mattel has a long track record of playing responsibly across all areas of our business, which includes how we impact the world around us," Lisa Marie Bongiovanni, Mattel's vice president of corporate affairs, said in a statement Friday. "While we don't have all the answers yet, we are working to make continual improvements across our business, and that includes packaging."

I'd rather have accessories than series numbers. I only collect elites, but if the accessories are good enough, I could be swayed to pick up some basics.

I don’t get the question. Do we always try to save cube on our packages?? YES

As a MOC collector, I'm not happy about the discontinuation of series numbers or the reduced packaging. I like the bigger package as it allows for the figure to be posed; Vickie looks so boring crammed in like that. Without different poses and/or series numbers to distinguish duplicate figures, I think I'll be buying a lot less from Mattel next year. Which is probably a good thing since I got about 90% of the basic/elite/2-packs this year, but I'm still disappointed.

So technically, we will never get Elite13, or Basic 13? We will just get a set of figures with no real series number, like the Rumblers. Rumblers randomly pop up on Ringside, and have no series numbers, but just a list of them.
Also, will this apply to the Defining Moments line as well?

Well, everyone sat here complaining about the packaging before and going too stores and having ppl stealing figures so as i been saying for months, this is what it boils down too. I personally did not want too see these changes, as i love the elite packaging as is and DM packaging and stuff. But i knew it was gonna happen. Everyday someone was complaining about Mattel or there packaging or there figures so of course these changes are going too occur. A majority of you brought it on yourselves so too late too complain about it now, although im sure you will find a way too complain about it too lol

Same. This is the first change Mattel has made that I strongly dislike. It will get confusing. And end up costing them business. Kim

Basically, it looks like they are taking a numbered approach, with figures showing up in waves, rather then series. Hasbro does this with all it's Marvel & Star Wars lines.
For instance, wave 1 might contain figures #1-7, then wave 2 will have #8-13, with some figures from wave 1 mixed in, to keep the core characters out there.
Im just putting this out there as my thoughts on this, but if this is the route they go, I like it.

Well we can keep tabs on series ourselves here. It would be nicer to have the numbers on the box though. We'll just have to catalog them with MOC pictures.

Guys, guys, guys....
Everyone relax.
They're doing what is called refresher cases. It will actually make things easier on you, the collector. Instead of a designated series, they'll come out in waves. So, if you missed out on a chance to get, say an ADR figure, there will be constant refresher cases throughout the year. You'll also still be able to order them online in the same fashion. As someone noted above, it's the exact same thing that Hasbro does with their series', and those are constantly kept up to date, in stock, etc.
Not everything is all doom and gloom, people.
