Hey dudes / dudettes I've not been collecting Mattel for long, I decided to just collect the guys I really support and like. and only in their elite form. I also decided I wanted them all to have tags and bases in the basic form (I'll have to custom make a few I know but hey, I'm a perfectionist) anywho as I said I'm only collecting certain guys at the moment I've got Cena (Purple shirted, love purple so seemed the way to go out of all the Cena's) Sheamus and E11 CM Punk.
now the other day I was in TRU with my friend on here, CMJ? Jacaso? Yella... whatever he calls himself these days, when I saw they had basics WM series in they had Del Rio, I've been a huge Del Rio fan from day 1 but didn't get it because it was basics.
just wanted to know is it only me that wont mix Basic and Elite? I just hate looking at a basic figure next to an elite figure...

Just wait for the Elite version to hit, should be within a month or so. I only buy Elites but have gotten a Basic or two for fix-up purposes and every time I'm amazed at how much better Elites are. The legs on Basics just feel so static and rigid compared to Elites

I hate doing it but I have a couple of basics mixed in with my elites, only guys who don't have an Elite figure such as Carlito, Khali, and ADR.

I'm kinda like that too. My main collection is made of Elites with only Basic Divas mixed in. My Legends figures take up the top shelf, the current Elites the middle, and only the outdated/replaced Elites are mixed with my Basics on the bottom of my display bookshelf.
Why even bother with the Basics at all?
Well, like you said, there are some Superstars I like enough to get their debut figure, which is always a Basic. I don't mind picking up every Rey Mysterio, for example, because there's good variety in his attires. Another thing is that some Basics actually have a better headscan than their Elite counterparts, so I pick them up for headswaps. Good examples of this are Finlay, Kozlov, Edge, and Swagger. Finally, there are certain Superstars that are ONLY available as Basics. Figures like Great Khali, Hurricane, Tommy Dreamer, Michael Tarver, Darren Young, Carlito, Primo, Mike Knox, and Shelton Benjamin.
Ultimately, there's no right or wrong way to collect. The best you can do is collect them in the way that makes you happy. At least the Basics are in scale with the Elites if you ever have to throw one in there. I'll be doing more of this soon as new Basic Legends get released, the only other type of Basic figures that are must-haves, IMO!

My collection is a mish-mash of Jakks RA/CS/DA, Jakks DI, Mattel Elites, Mattel Basics, and a few miscellanous figures in the same relative scale (Dennis Rodman's Toybiz figure, some Lucha Libre USA figs).... but of all of them, I think that Basics are at at the absolute bottom of the list. The only people I'll get a Basic of are guys who don't have an Elite (Darren Young, Michael Tarver, David Otunga), and I'll promptly replace them with the Elite version soon as possible (Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan.... already done for Yoshi Tatsu, Sheamus, and Drew McIntyre). I did pass on Del Rio and Gabriel, because I had already seen the protos for the Elite versions of them... but if I hadn't, I'd probably have gotten them. And I got Daniel Bryan anyone (and will likely do the same for Sin Cara)
The sucky part is.. if you want one of EVERYONE that's in the same relative scale, you have to be able to put up with some figures being out of scale. After all.. if you want Sheamus, only one company has made his figure. The same can be said if you want a Velvet Sky figure though.. or a Harvey Wippleman...
Still.. I think I'm at between 500-600 DIFFERENT wrestlers (with another 20 or so alternate outfits, like Akeem for One Man Gang.. masked Kane for Kane... etc).... pretty awesome. And rest assured that no matter WHO comes out, if they aren't getting an Elite or RA (my preferred styles), I'll pick up the Basic or DA and just suck it up for now.... No question that Brodus Clay will be a must buy.. as will Doug Williams in the DI series....

I've always collected basics so I've got a display with Jakks RA and Mattel Basics mixed. Then another shelf with my Elites, Legends, Entrance Greats, and Defining Moments.

I mix them. But at one point I preferred basics. Now I realize how much better elites are, so I am going to buy elite Sheamus, Orton, Ziggler, Rhodes, HHH, Miz, Del Rio, elite 11 Punk, and Kofi. That is once I get $140.

I've gone the complete opposite to a lot of you guys... I used to collect Elites only but since having to sell the majority of my collection to cover fees I had to pay I have recently started getting more Basic figures, mainly due to there being more of a variety costume wise (United States Sheamus is awesome) but as you say - Elite's are way more detailed. I find myself liking the head scan on more Basic figures though for some reason (Triple H, CM Punk - 2 Pack with Gallows)

For me, it depends on the figure. I think figures like Kane, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Edge, Christian and even Alberto Del rio look just as good as basics because they dont have a whole bunch tattoos and such. But CM Punk's elite figures are far superior to his basics because of the coloring on the tattoos, so i definitely mix up my collection.

I always rush and buy a basic to fill a hole then when his elite comes out the basic gets put away. Needless to say I got like a whole basic roster sitting in my closet haha

I started out only wanting elites, but now they are cut Down to only 4 or 5 current guys a set. So I've started to explore basics because we will get updated attired faster & more options and debut figures faster
