I was looking on eBay at old WCW Galoob figures (just for fun), and I saw how rare and expensive the El Gigante is, and I wondered what legends collectors thought about the idea of a Mattel El Gigante. Would it sell, or would be like a Superfly Snuka with boots? And of course, which would you prefer.

I'd pass on any verson as he wasn't someone I found entertaining but I know people want him. So I'd make both as one Flashback spot (50/50 split)

Giant Gonzalez for sure.. he was such a big character and memorable back in the gimmick years of WWF.. I know a bunch of ppl hoping Mattel makes him and i would for sure by at least 3 of him.. he is one of my most anticipated from Mattel.. Jakks did good, but i want Mattel's with more articulation and even better design

I know Apocalypse is dying for a Giant Gonzalez ... but sorry buddy I've got to say no way. The guy is arguably the worst wrestler/worker of all-time and had possibly the ugliest look of all-time. I want almost any legends, but no thanks.

I think he and Yokozuna will draw a lot of crossover sales from kids who love to have really fat and really tall figures. If Mattel scaled Gonzalez based on his BILLED height of 8 feet, he'd be the tallest by far! Plus, that body suit he wore looked HORRIBLE in person and on tv, but in action figure form it looks like part of his body.
I think Mattel would be smart to include him in the flashback series. He'd stick out so much (like Yoko).

When Mattel Started Making Legends Figures i actually had a dream one night they made giant gonzalez. And the thing was awesome, towered over the undertaker figure by a head at least , had all the details , the painted on muscles, fur on the shoulders , crotch , arms and legs and the scan was ridiculously good, and i spent the next day trying to figure out if it was a dream or i just stumbled on a picture late at night and half forgot i know he wasnt the best wrestler but he was one hell of a character, i loved the squash matches of 3 wrestlers vs Giant Gonzalez and i highly agree i think it would be one that kids would find interesting to add to their collection marklud, no worries bro, i understand a lot of collectors would easily have a dozen wrestlers wanted first but def. one of my top wants . I Love mattels scale, i want Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, Earthquake not only cuz i like the guys but the scale of them makes my collection more interesting, I love posing the big guys next to the small guys . Thats what old school WWF was all about , Big Dudes Fighting Big Dudes, and sometimes small Dudes fighting Big Dudes

I'd take both as I think Mattel could knock him out of the park and make them some very good figures.

Just wanted to make sure I meant no disrespect because I know how much you want him. We all have our own wants. Us Legends guys have to stick together! Ha. To briefly dovetail off onto other "big guys" -- I'd absolutely love Earthquake/Typhoon, Big John Studd, Sid, One Man Gang, etc. ... just throwing that out there! Mark

More Legends big guys would be cool to see! They may not have been the best wrestlers ever but they all had such unique, spectacular looks to them that you never forget them. Some of them, like Big John Studd, looked like superheroes while others were freakish monsters that almost didn't look human at all, like King Kong Bundy!
If Mattel were going to make him, my vote goes for Giant Gonzalez. It's such a crazy look, how could you not want to see him tower over Rey Mysterio in your collection? Heheh! Actually, looking back on it, he'd also be one more in a small handful of wrestlers that we need to recreate Undertaker's WM Streak! Granted that Ric Flair is not a possibility (For now, at least), that still only leaves us with Giant Gonzalez, Diesel, Sycho Sid, and A-Train. IMO, all of them would be pretty cool big guys to be made in Mattel form!

If I had to chose I said El Gigante
But I could literally name 100 guys that I would rather have before him, especially with space in the line so limited

The guy might have been a horrible worker, and he certainly wasn't too athletic looking in his older age, but then again neither was Andre the Giant (who, sorry to say, looked like crap in his WM showdown with Hogan).
I don't really care if he couldn't move. I care about two things: 1) Do I have strong memories of the character as an interesting force? Yes. 2) I can foresee this figure helping legends sales either because of his legendary status OR look? Yes.
Putting guys like Savio Vega, Waylon Mercy, Magnum TA to this test: No and no. Some might disagree about the personal memories, but it's entirely too soon to be putting out "legends" for "completers" who are rounding the edges of their collections, and who can somehow stomach a blend of cartoonish, big-headed, out-of-scale Jakks with their more realistic Mattels.
The line needs to rebound, and that will not happen if Mattel goes that route, which seemingly is the route Mattel has failed at thus far (Sarge, Snuka, Road Warriors, the 2-packs).
People say they want "a 100 guys before Gonzalez." There aren't a 100 figures that would sale more than this freak of nature. Maybe 50. But when you put out the tallest figure you may ever make, he will sale.
Hogan said once that fighting giants and big men always draws money. He rivaled with Andre, King Kong Bundy, Earthquake, Yokozuna, The Giant (Big Show), to name but a few. It does the same in figure form. And Mattel could use positive sales in the legends/flashback lines.

Big guys always sell the crowd as the type of bad guy that could crush their hero but they will explode for when the hero prevails. this goes back to david and goliath. old school wwf was full of tall + large competitors, thats what sold. mattel have made or planned for flashbacks so far Papa Shango - a tall voodoo wrestler Big boss man - a tall large cop yokozuna - a large sumo chances are if these do well we may see gonzalez as a flashback, jakks released the same gonzalez figure 3 times, once w fur as an excl. it must have done fairly well to justify releasing it 3 times ya? im just dying to see how well mattel would make this figure, it would arguably be one of their best put together figures
