Now that my LJN collection is complete by my standards (only missing some accessories and most varients), I have a question about those varients.
What ones are the most rare of all the varients. The only ones I currently own are the bearded Cpl and the second Bobby Heenan.
I don't have much more room to display all varients so I'm thinking about just trying to collect the rare varients and get rid of the more common original figures.
My collection pretty much fills up my three LJN rings so I'd have to buy a fourth (and find room) to add all the varients.
Thoughts/Comments?
Thanks in advance.

This is a post that could cause some debate. There are a lot of disagreements about what exactly is and isn't a variant, what is just a paint error or omission, ect. Someone may say "I've got (so and so) and it's a rare variant". Then someone else will tell them it's just a factory error.
Here are some of the variants that are fairly agreed upon. Don't know what would be considered more or less rare in this group:
Roddy Piper w/brown boots
Iron Sheik with out painted loops
Bruno w/light blue trunks
Ventura w/blonde hair and mustache ventura w/light brown hair and mustache Ventura w/blonde hair and light brown mustache (really don't know what one is most common.)
Cpl Kirschner w/black beard Cpl Kirchner with smooth face and stubble face
Jimmy Hart with out hearts on megaphone
Lou Albano w/white lapels on shirt deco
Bobby Heenan without swirls on shirtsleeves
Okerlund without WWF logo on mic (hard to verify if it's not MOC since the logos are so easily rubbed off/worn off over time)
Killer Bees with "tans" or lighter skintone
JYD with red chain I remember a JYD with black chain also. Cannot seem to find a pic, so it could be faulty memory.
Then there's the George Steele with the stripe that only goes up to the tights/trunks line and is a darker red (some call it brown).
I've also noticed that the Hulk Hogan's that came in the tag sets with Hillbilly Jim seemed to have had brighter yellow hair than the "blonde" ones that came single carded. Can't verify that though. There are lots of little paint color differences like that throughout the line.
Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these (and someone surely will), or add any that I'm missing.

The list was just off the top of my head, without looking anything up. I knew I was forgetting several.
The panther shirted Ppiper has never been confirmed to exist, to the best of my knowledge. Like the black shirted Hillbilly Jim and the red and black tights Steamboat, I was fairly sure it only exists in pics of prototypes. I'd love to be proven wrong on that, though.

I won't get rid of common figures to collect varients. i meant that I would get rid of an original CPL and just keep the bearded CPL, etc..

I, myself, have never seen this one on ebay or in the classifieds here. I bought a painted chesthair Steele on eBay. It was in a larger lot and I am positive that it is real. It can -however- be easily faked. Never seen a MOC specimen btw.

curious as to what you paid for the lot Stom, if you don't mind sharing. By seeing some of the other rarer varients on ebay, I'm guessing this loose Steele would go for $20 to $30 as a single?

It was a couple of years ago, so I cannot really recall, but it was in a cheap enough lot of 5 or 6 figures. Couldn't have been more than $ 30 for the lot.

I would suggest collecting the variants. Your LJN collection so far is fantastic so far.
P.S. I know people have different opinion's on this topic, but have you ever thought of adding the New Jakks "LJN's" to your collection? (Austin, Rock, HBK, Taker, Etc.)

ya, I've thought of adding the new Jakks versions, however, I figured it will be easier to get a hold of those figures and probably cheaper down the road. I just finished the LJN collection at Christmas time, so I didn't want to start with Jakks LJN before it was complete.
Now that I'm a bit interested in varients, I think the Jakks version will be waiting a bit longer.

Ok Here is a list ( These are noticeable to the common ljn collector, This is not including different shades of paint except the hart foundation and savage which is easily noticeable....))) 1. Bobby heenan w/scrolls on shoulders,,, without scrolls (not sure which one is the varient) 2. Jimmy Hart without hearts on megaphone 3. Iron Sheik w/ painted belt loops-- without painted belt loops (again, not sure which is the varient) 4. Junyard dog has 3 chains... grey (common), red and black (black is the rarest of the 3) 5. Roddy piper brown boots 6. George Steele painted chest hair ( this was released in small #'s) 7. Capt Lou Albano without the red on the portrait shirt 8. Corp. Kirchner 3 styles- no stubble (common), w/ stubble unpainted and painted beard (this was released) 9. Macho Man savage with dark purple shorts (hard to find) 10. Hart foundation- pink tights & purple tights (not sure which is the varient, see a lot of both) 11. Elizabeth- purple skirt 12. Strike force without lightining bolts 13. Vince McMahon- wwf logo on microphone (one is thick one is thin, not sure which is the varient) ....... Here is a list of Prototypes that were pictuerd but was never released (If someone owns one of these protos then they are fortunate because they are 1/1 .....) 1. Roddy Piper w/ Panther on shirt 2. Adrian Adonis w/ molded scarf 3. Tito Santana in goofy pose (seen on the back of packages) 4. Haku in king of the ring purple tights 5. Killer bees with black trim on boots 6. Hillbilly Jim with black undershirt (these appear on ebay rarely but they are fake) 7. Freddie Blassie with sparkles on jacket 8. Ricky Steamboat with black trunks and red tights ( I believe big brothers figure museum owned this prototype, There was one being sold on ebay with a broken off forearm that was not made of rubber but the seller is pretty suspicous so I do not know if it was legit) 9. Jimmy Hart with pink shoes 10. Jim duggan w/ Blue tights (andre color)- This was owned by Jim Duggan himself and auctioned off on ebay a few years back, I'm not positive but I think the winner was a member by the ebay name of drewnikj , I do not know if he posts here or not.
I think there is a few things I'm missing from both lists but that is the best my memory can serve at this time.... It was rumored that Vince McMahon has his own LJN figure displayed in his office at titan towers that has a metalic blue colored suit on, but to my knowledge it's never been proving and I haven't taken the tour myself yet so who knows)..... I also think there is some kind of varient to billy jack haynes (missing the eagle tattoo or the oregon on the boots or something but I don't remember for sure so I didn't list it...).....

I've got a Hillbilly Jim with black shirt....I painted it myself. The McMahon figure in question does exist. It was pictured in a magazine spread on the McMahon's at one point in one of the WWF/WWe publications. I think it was an article on the McMahon house/estate though, not the Titan office. I think it was just a grey and blue suit, not metallic blue. He's got it in a glass display case with a gold nameplate.

Thanks for all the help. Seems to be some room for debate/questions about how many varients there truly are. I enjoy the more noticeable varients like Heenan or CPL more so than a different shade of shorts/pants.

That seems to hit on all of the obscure ones that I know about. The ones that are confirmed anyway. Of course, the most common of the "variant" pieces are SD Jones in the yellow shirt with palm trees and the white-shirted ref (I believe blue is the common one).
Be advised that, with loose figures, some of those variants are real easy to fake without being able to easily tell the difference. Best to either be very careful of just not pay too much unless you really trust the seller.

I have a bunch of LJN figures...the whole set minus some "variants" and a bunch of duplicates...I have a few questions.
What is the deal with some identical figures having a different copyright date and/or letter molded in the back of them?
Who's decision is it to call something a variant based on the color shade? Ofcourse we have all heard of the Hart Foundation and Jesse Ventura variants. I have a bunch of different figures that have color variations that nobody has ever mentioned. And by color variations, I don't mean one has faded.
How come nobody mentions the Elizabeth variant where some are almost plastic-like and some are made of rubber? I have even heard of an inbetween material.

Elizabeth...I have never heard of that one. I have owned probaby 5 different Elizabeths and they've all been the hard plastic material. Never heard of another with regular LJN rubber feel.
