Whenever I try to download something more than about 5gb, my computer goes to a black screen that says "A problem with the hard drive has been detected." It did this when I tried to download the DC Universe Online, and Lord of the Rings online. Is my computer overheated or is this a nasty virus? Any suggestions for what to do? My local disk c: Hard Drive has 28.4 GB available out of 223 and for Recovery disc, 4.34 out of 9.69 GB. I've had this computer for about 6 years now.

It could simply mean that there's something wrong with your hard drive. Hard drives are mechanical. They do not last forever.

by download you mean legally right? Yes, of course. I want to try out DC Universe Online but my stupid computer won't download it. It could simply mean that there's something wrong with your hard drive. Hard drives are mechanical. They do not last forever. How can fix my hard drive then? I don't have the money to buy a new one.

the computer may also not be compatible with the items you are trying to download... i know dcu is rather new... so maybe your hardware wont be able to run it.. so its not allowing you to download and install it...

That doesn't explain why it won't download LOTRO. I downloaded that before and while the gameplay was laggy I had no problems with it. I had to completely reinstall Windows because of a virus.
Maybe buying a new hard drive will be cheaper than just buying a completely new computer (which I've been planning on doing). Would buying an external hard drive work good? Instead of just replacing my current one...
