espn.go.com/mma/story/_/id/7406718/brock-lesnar-retires-first-round-loss-alistair-overeem-ufc-141As a life long wrestling fan, this really gets tired and old to see. Yes we all, including wrestling fans, realize wrestling outcomes are predetermined and matches and storylines are scripted. Why is it though that media outlets (this isnt the first time) still feel the need to say "fake" every time something Pro Wrestling comes up? You'll never hear a true wrestling fan say that wrestling is "real" we all say its predetermined but we all know the bumps and bangs they take are legit, choreographed or not. Im just really sick of seeing "Dwayne Johnson, Actor and FAKE WWE wrestler" or Brock Lesnar, NCAA & UFC Champion and FAKE WWE wrestler or "Chris Jericho, Dancing with the Stars contestant and FAKE WWE wrestler".....its so F'ing annoying!!! That's just the way things go, people really hate on the Pro Wrestling industry. Whenever someone tells me it's fake I say "Everything you see really happens, how is that fake?"

That was really unnecessary. Even Brock Lesnar would tell you that pro wrestling was tougher on his body than MMA.

I don't mind it in that context, it's right after NCAA wrestling champion so distinguishing that the NCAA stuff is real and the WWE stuff is fake doesn't bother me.

I too hate this, but I don't expect it to change. It really is ridiculous, if you think about it though...people don't call Sylvester Stallone a fake boxer, or Arnold Scharzenegger a fake cyborg from the future. They call them "actors", just like they should call wrestlers "pro wrestlers" to make the distinction from amateur wrestlers. Is that really so hard?

To quote the old don't try this at home ad, "Yes, this is entertainment, but the hazards are real."
It is predetermined and scripted, but it is also athletic and dangerous. Botches happen and injuries occur that were NOT scripted and not supposed to happen. Take the classic example of Droz. Go up to him and say that wrestling is fake and that everything that happens is scripted and supposed to go as planned. I agree with you, this irritates me so much.

i prefer scripted instead of fake, which the public can't understand the difference of. i don't think the public has any idea that the fans know that it's scripted, so they have the need to remind us. oh by the way, it isn't real!
yeah, and your favorite movie isn't real!

That was really unnecessary. Even Brock Lesnar would tell you that pro wrestling was tougher on his body than MMA. I thank that could be argueable Just about every MMA fighter who has also done pro wrestling will say that pro wrestling is tougher on the body. Even Enson Inoue who only wrestled a handful of matches for New Japan has said that in interviews.

I always found the whole fake vs scripted argument kinda weird. I mean you're arguing about semantics there. I also don't get why people get offended when people call wrestling fake. It's fake, so what? If you get so offended about what people think of your hobby, maybe it's time to get a new one? Be comfortable with what you like. Like the guy in this thread said "yeah, and your favorite movie isn't real!" everybody knows that yet it bothers nobody because they're comfortable with what they like.

Not only is it ignorant to call professional wrestling fake, I think its very unprofessional on the writer's part for blatantly labeling WWE as fake.
Don't get me wrong, I know wrestling isn't "real" by any means, but there's still a lot of risk involved, and simply calling it fake gives no credit to the guys that make a living wrestling.

I find it hilarious when people write this. It's like they have some super cool insider knowledge that they want to drop in just to be slightly condescending. Perhaps 50 years ago you'd get people buying the whole wrestling thing, but nowadays it's like referring to Jurassic Park as 'fake'.

That was really unnecessary. Even Brock Lesnar would tell you that pro wrestling was tougher on his body than MMA. I thank that could be argueable At least MMA guys have breaks between fights. Anything that's hurting after they leave the ring has time to heal. Wrestler have to go back and do it again the next day. And their falls are often a lot bigger. Really, the biggest thing that fighters have worse as far as injuries go is the fact that they're punched in the face. and yes, it does annoy me. Obviously, I know wrestling isn't a legitimate sport. But when people use the term "Fake" in that context, it's being used specifically to be insulting. There's no other reason to have it there in a story like that, when it's completely understood without using it.

Wrestling is fake and its not fake. The stories are fake, most of the fighting is held back and not fully inflicted. But the injuries and deaths are real.

What is a 'real WWE wrestler' opposed to a 'fake WWE wrestler'. Sounds like the writer is just ignorant to pro-wrestling... and is attempting to be insulting. It annoys me too though... I don't think the miswording and ignorance will ever change. I am used to it at this point.

I always like to think about it like this. WWE calls itself sports entertainment. When compared to other sports, it's fake. When compared to other entertainment, it's scripted.
