Hey guys, just wanted to let you know Obama won Florida. I hear he is going to be the next President.

Did you see the map of Florida. Every single county with the exception of a handful of them went for Romney. If we went to a direct popular vote, that's what could happen. A few heavily populated areas skew the entire state.

A few heavily populated areas skew the entire state. Well that's democratic, because more people live there. Why should a county with 10,000 people have the same say in issues as a city with 1,000,000 people? I'm not saying ignore the smaller county, but the city should rightfully have a bigger say.

But it pretty much ensures that those who live in rural areas don't have their needs/concerns represented at all.

Someone had mentioned this in the obama next four years thread, but I figured this would be more appropriate here. Before anyone screams liberal bias, the same two lists can be found on the Fox Business website.

As pointed out elsewhere, higher education is directly correlated with liberal politics. Not surprising.

Something in the water, I guess. You mean that the places that more successfully teach government propaganda have a higher percentage of people that want to rely on said government? Shocker.

The idea that every college in the US apparently teaches "government propaganda." And that every student apparently falls for it. Come on man. That's total BS.

Every public University teaches government propaganda, yes. Anything that makes people believe that our current education system is even GOOD, is propaganda.
Honestly, though, the term "propaganda" is pretty vague. Even what I'm saying is propaganda.
I didn't say every student falls for it, though. Unfortunately, a large number of them do.

To be clear, I mentioned the thing about liberal bias/fox because I didn't want people to think that I was calling Romney voters dumb. Granted some most definitely are along with some of the Obama drones (no pun intended) that I've come into contact with.

Like I said, I use the phrase propaganda pretty loosely.
I'm not saying that people are "brainwashed." I'm just saying that the places that successfully teach the government's form of education - which includes a lot of leftist information - would logically be more likely to vote Democrat.
Uneducated people tend to be more worried about things like their gun rights, abortion, etc. Things that the federal government, for the most part, does not and has not done much for/against in quite some time. These people tend to vote Republican.

But it pretty much ensures that those who live in rural areas don't have their needs/concerns represented at all. I do understand your argument, and coming from a rural area in England I empathise with what you're saying. However, that would be what Congress is for. The Presidential election doesn't really concern the major differences between rural and city life, and as a result I still believe a straight popular vote would be better.

Even though the candidate is likely to represent the big cities?
