I haven't seriously collected wrestling figures since a little while before Jakks tenure ended. I still buy some, every now and then, but the last set I really chased was the RA 40 with Chris Jericho. Now, I still follow what comes out and I've noticed something (which I'm sure everyone else has) about Mattel.
Mattel produces INCREDIBLY detailed wrestling figures. I'm not talking NECA or McFarlane or FigureArts detailed but they're really well done. Look at the recent Toys R' Us Triple H exclusive or the Entrance Greats/Defining Moments figures. All of these beat Jakks figures 100%. However, we haven't seen a lot of superstars which Jakks would have produced. I mean the lower card guys. We also haven't seen a psycho R-Truth or Best in the World CM Punk yet...among many other current looks and superstars. While the lower-mid card superstars would probably warm shelves...it'd be nice to see accurate figures every so often.
That's one thing I appreciated about Jakks. If they had the figure license right now, and someone debuted a new look we'd have it in a month and a half. We would already have had a CM Punk with the Best in the World shirt and slicked back hair.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Mattel's work. I am incredibly happy that they have the WWE license and I think the quality is superb. Obviously, we're sacrificing quantity for quality. How do you feel about the longer wait for figures in the name of better quality. I think it may hinder figures in some cases when they wait to produce an amazing figure, but then the attire is already different. Look at Cena, for example, by the time the red attire Cena was released, we already have a new Rise Above Hate John Cena. Who knows when we'll see the new Masked Kane?
I'm just wondering how everyone else feels as well.
