Really?
What a disappointment. I really don't understand why since most legends are sold out in stores I have been to! The only exception is the iron sheik - they must have overproduced that one. Yes, the legends were expensive but a heck of a lot cheaper than ordering from mattycollector! That is likely why the rockers didn't sell well.... They were not in stores!!!
The good thing about having legends was that sure kids didn't know them but a dad like me could buy them and describe to his son what the legend was like and watch old tapes, etc. My son likes the old wwf era more than the current era because of this! That is why I built him a classic war wrestling ring.
Hopefully Mattel changes its mind.

They may have sold out near you, but that wasn't the case down in the United States. Mattel's legends didn't sell well at all for a variety of reasons, but it did poorly enough that they decided to end the line at retail.

This is why we have the Legends know in the Elite series as Flashback figures.... I really liked the Legends line but for me it was a hard series to find near the end.... I was lucky to just have walked into a TRU Express and find Legends 6

Hopefully if Mattel learns how much a pain in the neck it is to order something off Mattycollector, they will put Legends back in stores.

The retailers don't/didn't want to order them so they are done at retail. Mattel can't force them to order the line.

sadly, Mattel figured out the legends line too late. Series 1 - 3 were major shelf warmers for a LONG time but 4, 5 and 6 were better and sat around less in shops. Their line ups were stronger as the line progressed. Also, I think the Jakks CS line really put a damper on the introduction of the Legends line. Many collectors did NOT want to shift to a new scale, new style, new line. Eventually, most of us caved. I did. Legends and Elites are really good. I think the Flashback figure is the way to go in retail.

I never found too many Legends in stores to begin with. It wasn't because they sold out, it was because the stores in my area just didn't order them. I do like the idea of Flashbacks. At least when they order the Elites, I will have an opportunity to buy them.

Hopefully if Mattel learns how much a pain in the neck it is to order something off Mattycollector, they will put Legends back in stores. Mattel would rather them be in stores, but retail is just not buying them. sadly, Mattel figured out the legends line too late. Series 1 - 3 were major shelf warmers for a LONG time but 4, 5 and 6 were better and sat around less in shops. Their line ups were stronger as the line progressed. This sums it up perfectly. I think the strongest part of the last 2 waves was the smaller assortment size, and Series 7 would have been the same way. I think that Elite Flashbacks & Basic Heritage will be enough of a Legends fix for now, I believe the line will be back in retail in a few years. What they should have done is wait a 2-3 years into the license until releasing Legends, since Jakks did such a great job.

There is both good and bad to this. I think it is good because we only have to worry about collecting 1 figure at a time from Matty. I couldn't tell you how many times I would walk into a store and see figure/figures I would like to buy but couldn't afford it or I can only afford who was most improtant in a particular series. Now I know when it is going to be available, by date, and I only have to worry about 1 not 6. They are more expensive but I can buy 2 Andrea the Giants and totally pass on DDP, which I am, and save up for 2 King Kong Bundys.
Finding Flashbacks will be a bit of a challenge but even with those there are only a couple to worry about getting at a time.
I think it is bad because alot of people prefer buying in a store and I think Mattel will see sales drop. Also, I have been buying figures from Matty Collctor for years and there are times that I can't because they only accept credit cards and do not offer Paypal. I think if they had Paypal they would see an influx of sales. As far as The Rockers two packs... well, I just think 2 packs aren't popular for some reason. at my TRU I can still get all 3 Legends 2 packs, and all 3 All Stars 2 packs. Sad really, since they came over a year ago.

Mattel's expectations were too high and they overproduced plus they didn't have KB ToyWorks to sell Legends. When Jakks had the Classics line, did anyone ever buy from Target and Walmart?

I actually prefer them as flashbacks. Makes them be more selective on who they do instead of just pumping weak characters out.

This is so true! There is no way the Legends and Legend 2 pack lines should have been produced in the numbers they were. Legends sold fine in my area until they started restocking the same series 5 or 6 times. My local TRU is still putting out fresh cases of the 2 packs nearly a year after they were released. Then there was the terrible repacked HOF series which is still collecting dust on the shelves of several Kmarts across the country. The only time my local Kmart ever received any new Legends after HOF debacle was when series 4 was pre packed on the shipper they had last year in January. If this was supposed to be a collectors driven line, then why were there so many of each series produced? They had to have know the market wasn't there for the numbers they were making.

My Kmart still had at least 100 legend 1 and 2 at 12 dollar clearance price, collecting dust. Line tanked in retail thus retailers didn't want to buy it anymore

That is what I don't like. Send The Rockers or Andre to my local TRU and see how long it sits there. Not for long because it would be on display in my room. I gave Mattel my money on L3 Perfect, L5 Savage, Martel, Bam Bam and L6 Texas Tornado. Can't say I didn't try.

There are still thousands of Legends 2 in Big Lots stores nationwide. My K Mart still has tons of Legends 1-3 for 12 bucks that will never EVER sell. Animal and Austin are even sitting there. Truth be told, the first 3 waves were largely abysmal. One day, there will be a Hogan, and unless they choose to pull a ringside calibre level of highway robbery he will be in stores. The way that they are doing it now will ensure that guys like Honkytonk Man take years to come out. When the market has recovered from CS they may finally re release Legends in stores. A lot of people sold off their CS sets in anticipation for Mattel Legends, and they may be regretting it now.

I too have the CS figures I do have. However, I display them where they cannot be seen from a distance. All of my Mattel figures are up front.

I think they over priced themselves.
I recently purchased a second DM MachoMan for 8 dollars. Upon opening it I saw it is just a legends figure with a coat and Hat. Oh and a GOLD place stand. Now Mattel is going to tell me they wanted to sell those for 20+ dollars? Why? Is it really that expensive to paint the stand gold?
And the regular legends did nothing original IMHO. They are articulated but came with less accessories than Jakks classics which cost about 5 dollars less. And they made mostly guys Jakks had already made.

^^^The DM packaging was fancy. So add another $8 to the retail price, lol.
