Just curious if anyone has ever met someone who takes collecting to an extreme or let's their hobby spin out of control like spending more then they can afford or letting it affect their personal life in a negative way. May seem like a stupid question but its really not lol. I've seen some pretty obsessive collectors. I use to be a manager at kb toys years ago and there would be a guy who would come in literally every day to check for new stock even though he knew what days we would get shipment. Another guy would stare at the carding of figures and analyze it for about 10 min before buying it and even a guy who would watch the truck being unloaded to see what we were getting.

Lol I remember when I was anticipating the TRU RTWM Rock, I was calling each day every chance I had to see if they got him in. I even went in maybe 6 days out of the week til he dropped just to see if they were lying or not lol. Same thing with E11 Punk with Wal Mart.

I've been Toys R Us just about every day (except today) since I heard those Best of PPV Elites were hitting shelves. I'm under the impression that the TRU employees think I am a weirdo. They're looking at me like I stole something.

If what you listed above makes you obsessive or an adict count me in your list. Back in the Jakks Classics days I would go to a number of Kbs,Walmarts, Targets, and TRU on a daily basis. I would go during work and after work.
I would buy cases at a time when I was lucky enough to find an entire case with out being opened. I know I was lucky enough to find unopened cases for Classics series 8, the one with the first Hogan. And 16, I think its 16 that was the one with Powers of Pain, Sid, Outlaw Ron Bass and so on.
And when I found figures on the pegs I would carefully stare at the card. Id look for scratches on the plastic. Id look for damage on the carding, scratches, tape marks, dents, and tears. I'd look at the "crown" the gold star/circle, the one that had the WW in the middle. Id look to see that all the points on the crown were intact with out being folded or damaged.
Once a figure passed the carding inspection I would look at the figure itself. How was the paint job? Id compare paint jobs. Some figures had scuff marks on them, missing paint, paint not as strong as on other figs, and what position the figures legs, arms, hands, and head were in. A figure whose head was pointing down, as if he was looking down was a red flag. It made me think the pivot on which the head sits was weak causing the head to turn downward on its own. Same with the Arms and legs.
Of course that inspection process was only in cases where I found multiple figures already on the pegs. When I went to a store and only found 1 figure of a guy I wanted I would buy it no matter what condition. Or later on, if I found it on clearance, I would buy no matter what.
My figure collecting hasnt messed with my personal life though. My wife just wishes I wouldnt buy so many toys. But then She spends money on shoes, clothes, purses, makeup, perfumes, and jewlery so she has no leg to stand on. She cant really put down me buying a 10 dollar figure when shes spending 10 times as much money than me.

To me there is nothing that calms me down as much as opening a toy. Wether its an action figure, or a diecast. Its just like a drug to me. I love it. I know it seems nuts to put that much detail into buying figures but it is part of the fun for me. Plus I usually have the time to kill. Especially when I take the wife shopping, she will try things on, and just take a while. I dont mind. It gives me more than enough time to go look at stuff carefully.

I usually walk through the 'EXIT' door... walk to the wrestling figures, see that they have nothing, then walk right back out the 'EXIT' door. Takes about 2 minutes to be in and out of there. So they probably think I am snatching something real quick and getting out of there as quick as possible or something. One time I had a manager waiting at that door to greet me like "Did you find everything you were looking for?" "No, you guys never restock your shelves."

I'm going to work at Toys R Us soon, so maybe I'll see someone like that! Probably most likely I will.

Before I worked at Toys R Us I used to come in multiple times a week. The managers recognized me in my interview.

I work in the same shopping center as a ToysRus, and the one I work across from seems to switch up every few weeks when they get their truck. Last year they went almost two months, though, getting everything on Tuesday, and that was the day I became comfortable with.
Then one day while anticipating basic 10 I just randomly decided to check on a Friday night, and they had Mattel cases with the WWE markings. I didn't know what was in there, and it was 5 minutes to close. I knew that I worked the very next morning so I would just check before going in. Prior to this I had never seen anything fly off the shelf too quickly here or anywhere for that matter. Anyone who collects Mattel seriously knows that it's largely pretty easy to get what you want.
Anyway, they had only been open about 45 minutes, (they open at ten and my shift started at eleven), and when I went to the aisle the only thing left was one measly Kofi Kingston. The one I didn't care as much to have. The one that had just been in basic 8. Ever since that day I check TRU anytime I work over there. (And as far as basic 10, I had to buy every single one other than Triple H on the secondary market, 2 at Kohl's, 2 at Walgreens, and Zack Ryder on Ebay, because no other stores in the area ever got them other than the two times TRU did.)
That being said, the employees always look at me like I've stolen something, which makes no sense. Enough people work at that store, and someone is always on the floor, so why not try looking up from your work occasionally to make sure your customers are finding everything all right, and to defer theft.
Oh, and spam, I feel ya on the BOPPV elites. I've been checking nonstop, but my car had to go to the shop this week and my conflicting schedule with my fiancee prevented me from working my second job across from TRU since tuesday of this past week, and wouldn't you know that this was the week that the figures finally dropped. I got Cena but Trips is all sold out. Are these stores that have them getting any restock? Hopefully they will be like the WM27 Elites, where they got more than a fair ammount so that everybody had a shot at them.

If there is something that I think will arrive, I try to hit TRU once or twice a week around that time. Like now with the PPV figures. I don't obsess TOO much, I don't think.
If i can, I do try to choose a figure with good paint work on the face / eyes. Or, like BOPPV, I check to make sure the parts are all there.

I am kinda like that too. I go to Kmart at least 3 days per week and go straight to the toy section. If i see nothing I walk right back out. Sometimes I feel like i am being watched because I go in and leave so quickly. I am addicted to collecting figures. I feel like I just have to have them off. I even like the smell of a new figure. I keep them all in a big tupperware container and when i open the container, it smells like figures.. lol

I'd rather be addicted to figures than Drugs.
