i posted a few gripes about mattel, totally based on opinion but i got bashed heavily even though facts based on mattycollector and their lack of attention to the wrestling figure community, we all collect, we all have passion, we all definetly arent here for no reason. We all love this hobby, but i still dont think (especially how andre has been handled) that mattel is pulling through like they should, they have alot of master liscensing and they potential to create some of the best wrestling merchandise ever!.. But do you think since they have hotwheels, barbie!,DC universe property, that we the WWE collector are small and minuet to where they just throw in the towel everytime something doesnt work? (classics line and heritage)... Sound off , i wanna hear what you guys think..

No. They're doing a great job and anyone who says otherwise is a spoiled brat that has way too much of a sense of entitlement. A lot of of people don't want to hear that but it's true. Every decision Mattel has made has been the right decision for them and their long term future from a business perspective.

No Mattel makes things that will make them money, if its a failure why keep trying? If a key doesn't fit in a hole are you going to keep the same key and keep trying? no you move on and try something else. Same thing Mattel does. I am sure all their other lines have had things fail too.

How has Andre been handled??? As far as I can tell the consensus is he's a great figure. And it's really not Mattels fault lines fail, people don't have the extra cash or they don't want to replace their Jakks figures and retailers don't want to.have so much extra product in the shelves, so they stopped ordering what didn't sell great. Yeas collectors are the heart if the WWE line, but if stuff isn't selling you can't just keep making it. Also, they do care about us, they saw the legend line failing and instead if killing it completely they gave us flashbacks and the Matty Collector line up of legends.

Mattel is a business, not a charity giving toys to adult wrestling fans with mental problems. They make these things to make money. If there aren't enough people buying them to turn a profit, there's no sense in making them. That's what all the "waah waah they shud stop doin flexforce n rumblers n mayk more legends" idiots don't get -- we, the hardcore collecting community, are a tiny part of the market for WWE toys. And doing things that are just for us at mass retail just doesn't make sense for them business-wise.

Mattel is known for making epically bad choices with their product lines and pulling the plug quickly when things fall through due to the poor choices. The Legends line was full of bad selections, the Flashbacks are hit and miss and the Mattycollector line is made up of the remaining bad selections from the Legends line. maybe in a few years Andre will be in Flashbacks series, as well as Hogan, another Savage, HBK, Undertaker and Bret.

look at it this way. hands down is Mattel is the number 1 toy manufacturer! It took them awhile to get a grip on how to make Barbie popular. Now Barbie is perfected to a T. We are only in the 3rd year of the WWE license, you cant expect miracles. There are going to be a lot of hit and misses and bad ideas BUT they will eventually get a grip on what is best to produce and how to please all age groups. My 2 cents!

I am happy w/ Mattel and their treatment of the line, so far. No major complaints. Not a huge fan of Newgstics for their online collector site's shipping but next time, I will NOT choose that option.

Of course Mattel cares more about Barbie and HotWheels, they are their intellectual property. WWE products are a lot easier to kill when you're held to 5 year commitments.

you know what i hate about being a collector?
going to places like this , and seeing other collectors that think collectors need to be catered to... we as a whole dont make up a big enough part of the business to make any waves... yes there are companies that cater to us a little more , or do a better job of throwing us a bone... but over all , thats the thing i hate most about collecting..
this is not a shot at anyone.. just a big dislike about my hobby...

The collector is like the toy company's crazy uncle that they would like to stay hidden in the attic. When was the last time an action figure line was a hit with the kids? MMPR? When a 10 year old has $20 in his pocket, is he buying wrestling figures? Or is he going to Gamestop? When 6" action figures are approaching the $20, they better appeal to collectors. Not to long ago $20 was considered a collector level figure and was only sold in specialty shops. And that was in an era of non part reuse and new sculpts. If you you ask for a plate of crap, a plate of crap you will get.

i think if someone supports a line then they are 'entitled' to voice their criticism , praise and concerns anyway they feel. Mattel Definetly has not made every decision right for them, They put out guys like Brian Pillman in Legends while holding off on Andre, HBK , Undertaker and Kane who were all on contract no matter who decided current stars should not be in legends. They have made mistakes, they even admit it , so when people kiss their ass and say theyve done everything right, i think thats worse that constant bitching about what theyve done wrong
*also not a shot at anyone

Have they done everything right? No, but it's not only Mattel's fault. It's just as much the economy now also. Remember Andre was supposed to be released with the Legends ESR, but that was canceled because retailers didn't want to order it. He was then added to Legends Series 7, but again retailers pulled the plug on ordering the Legends line. At this point I'm just glad Andre made it out to the public at all.

The Mattel Design Team and everyone has done a good job. Mattycollector is a separate part of the company, and I venture to say that I would agree with you that MC doesn't really value the wrestling community (yet). I think Mattel would be bested suited to stick with Ringside as its primary online distributor of online exclusives, honestly.
