What happened, WF? Thought we had some serious film heads on here?
Anyway, hope ya'll like black and white, silent French cinema, cause the Artist is about to win everything.

I'm hoping Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close wins for the best possible "wtf?" moment.

Not all that excited about the show tonight, unfortunately. The Artist is a lock for more or less everything.
It's not that it's a bad film, quite the contrary, it's very enjoyable. I just don't agree with it winning best picture. It's a wonderful homage to classic cinema, nothing more, nothing less.
On the other hand, this was a relatively weak year in the best picture category. The only films I find to be truly deserving are The Descendants and Moneyball (though I didn't see War Horse or Hugo, so perhaps one of those two are as well.)
Last year was stacked - there were four or five films that I thought were truly deserving. Unfortunately, none of them won. I'm still pretty bitter about The King's Speech taking the award.

theres a great article in this weeks entertainment weekly about living in a world where movies like bridesmaids or the dark knight would win best picture stating that just because a film is fun, or a blockbuster or more popcorn fare doesnt mean it doesnt deserve to win, its suppose to be about films we love and enjoy and i gurantee more people enjoyed the dark knight in 2008 then any other film and the same goes with bridesmaids

Tree of Life's cinematography was groundbreaking. Hugo's? While very good, not nearly on the same level. Academy awards muck up that award every year anyways so it's not really a surprise though.

I've enjoyed everything so far I'm not expecting any major surprises, but it should be an interesting night none the less.

More garbage where the films and the people behind them that most of the general population thinks deserves to win doesn't. Awesome, I gave up after Dark Knight got screwed over with no Best Picture nod/win.

I agree even though I enjoyed Hugo a whole lot more. Tree Of Life's cinematography was amazing. I also loved Sasha as The Dictator dumping Kim Jong Il's ashes all over Ryan seacrest he looked so mad.

Fun movie, compared to everything it was against; totally didn't even deserve a nomination. Get over it.

I was glad the Artist took most of the awards tonight because it was a masterpiece with depth beyond the silence didn't think streep should have won.. I thought that Viola Davis deserved it more with the strong and reserved performance..

I watched the show tonight and for the most part it was good. I was sorta sad George lost Best Actor although Dujardin also did a great job. Meryl beating Viola to win her 3rd Oscar was also a little shocking yet I was very happy for Meryl who has been overlooked far too many times. I was a little surprised Hugo won 5 awards because most predictors were saying it would win only 3. Here is an article about the awards so people know some more about it if they want to: www.goldderby.com/films/news/2629/oscars-winners-academy-awards-winners-news-film-24680975.html#As Gold Derby predicted, "The Artist" won Best Picture, Director (Michel Hazanavicius), Actor (Jean Dujardin), Score (Ludovic Bource) and Costume Design (Mark Bridges) (See full list of winners here.) Meryl Streep finally got her third Oscar as she won Best Actress for "The Iron Lady" having lost 12 times since winning this award in 1983 for "Sophie's Choice." She edged out frontrunner Viola Davis ("The Help"). "Hugo" also pulled off a couple of big surprises as Robert Richardson won Cinematography over Emmanuel Lubezki ("The Tree of Life") and its Visual Effects prevailed over those of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." "Hugo" also claimed Art Direction and both sound awards -- Editing and Mixing. As predicted, Christopher Plummer ("Beginners") and Octavia Spencer ("The Help") won the supporting acting prizes. Woody Allen won his third Original Screenplay award for "Midnight in Paris." This marked his record 15th bid in this category. Alexander Payne picked up his second Adapted Screenplay Oscar for "The Descendants" sharing the award with his collaborators Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. As expected, "Rango" was named Best Animated Feature. Frontrunner "A Separation" became the first film in Farsi to win the Foreign Language Feature race. Grammy and Emmy nominee Bret McKenzie won an Oscar when he claimed Best Song for "Man or Muppet" from "The Muppets." The Documentary Oscars went to two heartfelt films -- "Undefeated" won the Feature award while "Saving Face" won the Short prize. The frontrunners claimed the other two Oscars for shorts as "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Bellmore" won the Animated race and "The Shore" claimed the Live Action category.

Terrible show, there were a few winners that I liked such as Plummer but there were so many better movies that were snubbed this year that I just didn't care about anything that was happening, and Billy Crystal and most of the bits were just so awful.

Watching the oscars I was thinking in 2002 if you told Stacy Keibler where she would be in 2012 she would have said you were crazy.

Pretty much this. I tuned in for the Oscars, but lowered my excitement. Can't believe Tree of Life didn't win cinematography. It was a for-sure lock I thought. Same with Rise of the Planet of the Apes (or even Transformers) for special effects. I'm going to go and sit in my corner now.

^ Yeah there is no way Hugo deserved to win the Best Special Effects Oscar..
They have an award show just for special effects [which I guess is special effect people's biggest night] and I'm pretty sure Planet of the Apes won so everyone's predictions I read said it would win.
I'm currently watching Live with Kelly and Octavia Spencer and Jean Dujardin are going to be on here.

Pleased with all of the winners. The Artist fully deserved everything it won, as it was, by an absolute distance, the best film of the past year. Hell, it was probably the best film of the past few years.
