At least The Artist wasn't as bad as The King's Speech. They're both totally unwatchable movies though.

^ Yeah there is no way Hugo deserved to win the Best Special Effects Oscar.. They have an award show just for special effects [which I guess is special effect people's biggest night] and I'm pretty sure Planet of the Apes won so everyone's predictions I read said it would win. I'm currently watching Live with Kelly and Octavia Spencer and Jean Dujardin are going to be on here. I know, right? I mean, I love Hugo, I really enjoyed the film, but in no way should it have won best visual effects.

I have no qualms with The Artist winning. It was awesome, besides there wasn't a lot of dynamic pictures this year anyways, most will be forgotten in a decade.

Unless you're white, over 60, and full of yourself you prob arent going to agree with the Awards. The artist won best pic, thats like saying a donkey pulled wagon is better than a Lincoln Town car...... see how rediculous and insane that is. Picking a silent black and white film for best pic is 1 step away from picking a book as best picture.

Again, message board. Do I really have to start every opinionated thought with "I think..."? Get a clue kid.

What I am really mad about is that Trent Reznor wasn't nominated for best score this year and that the legendary John Williams got robbed of an Oscar thanks to The Artist. Not that he needs another Oscar. At age 80 John Williams would have been the oldest composer to win an Oscar. But the trend for Best Score continued for a newcomer to win an Oscar. The 3 people who won for best documentary seemed like they had the microphone silenced on them during their speech to rush them to move on/time was up. I thought that was very very rude.

News flash, Dark Knight wasn't that amazing. Fun movie, compared to everything it was against; totally didn't even deserve a nomination. Get over it. Seriously, where's the "Really?" gif for this quote? Agreed. The Dark Knight at least deserved a nomination. While Slumdog Millionaire is a good movie, I stand by it being overrated.

The Dark Knight was amazing, Oscar or not.
All I can really take away from the Oscars, was that Moneyball was my favorite movie, of those nominated, and it didn't win.
I thought Pitt was better than Clooney and Dujardin, but so were Gosling and Fassbender imo and they got snubbed. Either way, he didn't win.
I'm moving on. I'll be watching Moneyball for years to come and there wasn't anything nominated along side it that I plan on watching more than once. It's sort of like Hurt Locker vs Avatar. Was Hurt Locker better than Avatar? Apparently to the Academy, but I have seen Avatar around 10 times and went to see it twice in the theatre. I saw Hurt Locker once and thought it was great, but I have never watched it again. That's all it really comes down to for me.
A bunch of people handing out an award based on pure opinion, and plenty of politics, isn't going to decide for me what I thought was the best film of 2011. I do always hope my favorites win so that they get that level of recognition I believe they deserve, but the films that leave a lasting impression on my life are not determined by that award. "The best," at least in film, is all about perspective.

Picking a silent black and white film for best pic is 1 step away from picking a book as best picture. You are a ing idiot. Why is that? Im just stating facts. The best picture this year was a huge step backwards in the film industry. You do realize they make films in color now right? Oh and they also have sound, so how a film that uses 100 year old technology wins best picture is insane. Maybe next year's best picture award will go to an actual picture painted on a canvas. Also isnt the artist french? It shouldnt even have been in the best picture catagory. It should have been in the best foreign film catagory. That's the whole point of even having a best foreign film catagory, to award movies not made in America. So I stand by my theory that unless you're old, white, and a snob you wont agree with who gets awarded. The proof is in this thread. KillScene brings up an excellent point. The Harry potter guy worked his but off to create characters from makeup, yet someone who applied a little lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow won. Where is the reasoning to that award? Based on what do you get an award? OR As someone else mentioned, the dark knight. I personally LOVED the Dark Knight. The film made easily 10 times more money than Milk. But yet Milk won best picture that year. How is that possible? Again I ask what is the voting based on? You had the Dark Knight which made, and still is making MILLIONS of dollars vs Milk which might have made 1 million dollars. And yet Dark Knight wasnt even nominated??!? Um, yeah that makes alot of sense..... See? The oscars are a great show to watch. But as far as movies they "claim" are the best that is very questionable.
