-- After having been away from the Classifieds for quite sometime, I've noticed more and more posts reading, "Make offers or be ignored" or "NO Lowballing offers" some faximilarity they're of.
And few and fewer posts simply just have prices.
Here's my argument with those of you or anyone who put "make offers" or whatever in your classified posts...
If you're the seller, and you're aware of a particular price range you want to sell your item/s around.. Don't expect buyers to be able to read your mind. And don't get offended if somebody lowballs you! How does the buyer know they're lowballing you? Only YOU, THE SELLER knows you're being lowballed, Why? Because you DON'T HAVE A PRICE LISTED FOR YOUR ITEM/S!
Even if you were to put a price on something, atleast you're letting any potential buyer know that "Hey, this is around the price range I want for this. If you can pay it, great! If you can't, I'm willing to negoatiate!".
I mainly just sell on eBay now, but even when I did sell at the Classifieds here, I always had an opening price next to the item mentioned. If a buyer took the bait, I reeled'er in and made the sale. If a buyer wanted to haggle, I was open to hearing their offer . . . BASED ON AN OPENING PRICE! Which made things a WHOLE lot easier.
My theory is, for sellers... YOU'RE the seller. Do NOT let your buyers dictate what your prices are going to be. Set an opening price. If the buyer counter-offers WAY below your opening price, then you've been Lowballed and that's when it's acceptable to get a bit upset at the buyer, because the buyer knew the price range you were expecting. If all you're putting is "Make Offer (no Lowballing)", how the heck is the buyer supposed to know if they're lowballing you or not ...?! and you get mad at them for it, refusing to deal with them, and you both lose out. It doesn't make sense.
As a buyer, wanting to add to my own personal collection, I don't feel comfortable making offers, because I'm not the seller - I don't have authority what that item I want, should sell for. Only the seller has that authority. And since I'm a reseller, I like finding really good deals, so it's my nature to buy cheap (it's not that I want to rip off a seller, it's just more convenient for me to save $ as a buyer). So my dilema here is, most of the posts in the Classifieds, require me to make an offer, as opposed to seeing a starting price, where we can begin negotiating on calm, friendly terms. As a reseller, I'll try and find a really good deal on something that's expensive and again, I'll try and buy cheap, but a good 90% of the people who post in the Classifieds, would and have, gotten upset over that. But they wouldn't get upset, had they simply placed a Starting Price next to that item.
Does anyone else see where I'm coming from, or can relate?
And to those who oppose what I'm saying, I'd love to hear your logic/s on the topic. Not trying to start a war of words, just trying to get a better understanding of this is all.

All of this is so true. Actually If I go into a thread and it says "Make Offers" I very very rarely even bother making an offer. I just back out and leave. It throws up a red flag for me when someone says it because to me if you're saying "Make an offer" you want a higher price then it should be and dont have the kahunas to just say, "Pay me $35 for Vickie Guerrero or you're not getting her"

Pretty much been said but that's why i stopped dealing here on the classifieds, even though most won't admit it they're being scalpers. You can't find any Elites series 11 and up here without having to pay at least $25-$30.

Absolutely agree. I've always hated "make offer" listings, because like you, I feel like I'm bound to offer too little. It does seem like they've become more prevalent across various forums, to the point that I haven't made any deals on forums in quite a while. I really don't see the point of it...do sellers honestly expect some poor sap to come along and offer them their life savings for a few figures? I can guarantee that will not be happening anytime soon, and until sellers realize that, I'm sticking to eBay.

I hate offering people money for things. Give me a ball park of what you want or think its worth and I'll work with the person from there. I hate the no low balling line too. How is it low balling? If an item is worth what someone is willin to pay and I am the only one willing to pay that price I don't think it's low balling, or if you paid 10$ for a figure and I offer you 12$ it might not be what you wanna make on it. Anytime I sold either here or eBay I always marked my items reasonable especially on here I always tried to help the collector.

I agree too. All it is, is them hoping someone will offer more than they should for the item. Just set a price and move on.

Gotta disagree. Its basic negotiating, dont lock yourself into a price when it is possible someone is willing to pay more. I've never used the classifieds, so I don't know what goes on, but I dont see a problem with it. Buyers usually dictate the price in collectible world, whatever someone is willing to pay for something is what its worth.

I agree completely, I've always prefer negotiate sales rather then straight forward $25 no discussion on negotiate. Of course I don't mind paying $25 dollars on a figure, but base off the quality and the demand for said figure but if the price seems ludicrous in comparison to the figure for sale, There's a guarantee I'll challenge/question you on your retail pricing. This really no purpose to propose the fact that the buyer can request a offer when you already know the set price range in which you would like to sell the item for, its ridiculous. Hopefully anyone who believes there being "Lowballed" can read this and don't do this, it would be much appreciated. This too.

I don't mind making an offer on an item. As long as the person does not get mad when i make the offer.

I was going to write the same thing about people asking for offers and then saying no low ball offers but you said it all.
I deleted this because I didn't want to change the topic that we were discussing but I think it's important that we know when someone ripped someone off on the board.

Or you can do what you did to me 3 and a half years ago and blatantly rip people off and then constantly change your story after being caught in a lie. Then you can pretend you are not the same guy.
Scam. Close account. Repeat.

I agree. Although I have noticed most people will still respond back and either say "deal" or "sorry that's too low" and give a counter offer. At least the ones I have dealt with.

The original poster NAC. I still have all the pm's where he admitted it also from 3 and a half years ago. He was really sneaky about it too. I'm glad I saved the proof. The guy changed his story so many times its almost funny. Claims he has no idea what I'm talking about. So I guess I must have dealt with another person named Nathan Arnold Charging from North Dakota who has kidney problems even used the same NAC username on here and collects and sells diva figures I would drop the whole deal if he would just admit what the did. I'm not even asking for the $25 back he stole from me or the figures. I just want him to admit his wrong doing to me. I know the guy has done other trades on here that have went fine but if you screw over 1 person then you deserve the bad trader tag. I even took his word for it when he said he never received the figures so I refunded his money. Then I see the figures I sent him that he claimed he never got up for auction in a charity event to raise money for people with bad kidneys. On top of all that he filed a paypal claim against me but never bothered to contact me. So since I don't use paypal that much I lost the claim because I never responded in the amount of time given so he won the case and my paypal account was messed up. I never even knew he filed a claim (even though he got all the figures anyways) Wouldnt you contact the person telling them you never got the figures before you file a claim? And then for him to never contact me about it I assumed everything was cool. Pretty sneaky. He also had negative feedback on Ebay and closed his account and started a new one there as well.
