What made some fans despise John cena to begin with? I remember back when almost everyone wanted cena to have the damn strap. Then I remember precisely the heat coming around the end of 05-beginning of 06. But in your opinion what do you think made fans give cena the cold shoulder all of a sudden?

Oh ok Anyway I started getting really bored of him in 2009. The finish of his match with HHH & HBK that year was the same as the match he had with Big Show & Edge. So lame. Another thing I didnt understand was when he beat Del Rio at NOC last year for a 3 week title reign. I know its not his fault, but they book him so poorly sometimes.

The same recycled routine he did for the last few years. I'll admit I grew tired of him always having the title so I'm glad they finally took a chance on someone else in the main event so he could take a break from the title picture

I know I began to boo him around late 06-07 when he had that never-ending WWE Title reign. IMO it's just that we're sick of seeing him win week in and week out.

Because once his main event push began in 2005, he was mowing through beloved Internet darlings like Jericho, Christian and Angle, so that never helped his case from the get-go.

This doesn't protain to cena, so don't retort to that, but I just can't stand some fans because they ask for something, then it's delivered. But once it is, some people always have to b*tch and complain about it. Some fans can never be satisfied.

Then I remember precisely the heat coming around the end of 05-beginning of 06. But in your opinion what do you think made fans give cena the cold shoulder all of a sudden? For me, it was simply his elevation beyond the high mid-card. Cena's ring work was very sloppy in '05, which is unacceptable for any company centerpiece. Moreover, when he became a babyface, he struggled mightily to be funny on the mic. He still comes off as goofy and forced when he tries to be witty. Lastly, his character is that of a bubble gum hip-hop star. If he had a rap gimmick/character similar to New Jack, he would be a lot easier to digest. In short, Cena is flawed in every area. He's not terrible, but he's indicative of a poor crop of talent in the mid-to-late 2000s.

Seemed like everyone was in love with him till he was drafted to RAW. And after feuds with Y2J, Christian, & Angle the crowd just turned. Especially midway through his feud with Angle.
And to be honest... not really sure why.
I think it started because he was always coming out on top. With victories over guys like HBK, Triple H, Angle, & Y2J. All men who had earned respect from the fans. So the fans turned.
But then again, I could be way off.

The way I see it, John Cena got over with his rap gimmick and when he stopped cutting creative, insulting freestyles, he basically became just this guy, without ring attire and no character, who loves the US Army and does everything for his fans. An average American Joe. Nothing bad ass, nothing charismatic. Just a guy with good mic skills, there, destroying everyone. Fist rule of trying to reboot Vince McMahon's superman babyface formula(hogan clone) is never talk about reboot. Just be vague enough about it & hope everyone goes along with it.

I got tired of him around 2007, I really hated his Marine gimmick and he just grew more stale by the title reign.

He was just beating everyone...literally everyone. He was built to be Superman, which was total BS and he held the title for far too long which was boring as hell.

I am pretty sure the fans turning on Cena started at SummerSlam 2005 in his match with Jericho. Even though Jericho was a heel, the fans were still chanting "Let's Go Jericho" during the match.
But what didn't help was Cena going to Raw. I said before how it was ironic that Cena and Batista both won the belts at WM 21, and both lost the belts at around the same time in early 2006, yet nobody cared that Big Dave was still champion, but everyone wanted the belt off Cena.
If Cena stayed on Smackdown then, I think he wouldn't have gotten booed as fast as he did.
