Hey,
Over the weekend I picked up a bunch of UFC DVD's I was falling behind on and one of them was UFC #129 in Toronto.
One fight that stood out to me was Rory MacDonald vs. Nate Diaz. Rory tossed Nate around like a friggin' rag-doll in the 3rd round!! It was crazy!! Nobody has ever done that to Nate.
Rory then went on to win an obvious Unanimous Decision.
Now, what I'm wondering, is just how in the blue hell is Nate Diaz above Rory in the rankings when he clearly lost to him??
In my opinion, I think Rory is getting screwed over by the UFC, big time.
Sure Nate came back and defeated Gomi and Cerrone following his loss to Rory, but Rory also defeated Mike Pyle after he beat Nate.
I don't know how Nate is getting the shot at Jim Miller over Rory at this point. I think Rory deserves the shot at Jim Miller seeing as he beat the guy who is facing Miller next.
I just don't fully understand the rankings sometimes. It just doesn't make too much sense, not in my opinion anyway.
It's almost like Rory went down in the rankings after defeating Nate. I just don't get it.
Nate Diaz is fighting Jim Miller next, while Rory is fighting Che Mills. Can someone PLEASE tell me how Nate is above Rory??
Does anyone else think Rory MacDonald is getting screwed over by the UFC or am I just not seeing the clear picture?? Someone explain it to me, please....

This is said time and time again, but the UFC is under no obligation to give any fights to anyone, win, lose or draw.
Yes, you're right - MacDonald likely should be ranked above Nate Diaz, but that's just not how the UFC sees its money-making opportunity at this time.

^ Yeah, you are right. It's just not how the UFC sees it, money-making wise at this time and I think that's very unfortunate, especially for Rory MacDonald. I think either fight would make money, wether it's Rory/Miller or Nate/Miller.
It shouldn't be just about money-making. I think fighter rankings should come before that and where a certain fighter is ranked, but it is what it is, I suppose. It's not quite right, and I'm not match-maker Joe Silva.
As I said, I think Rory deserves the shot at Jim Miller more-so than Nate, but UFC and Joe Silva sees it differently and who am I to argue?? I can just voice my opinion on the matter and that's pretty much it.

donald cerrone is a monster, and nate dominated him. that fight alone is what put him above rory. the argument should be why didnt rory get the shot of a level raising fight like that one before nate, and that i cant answer.
i dont believe nate should be cited, as to why rory is being 'screwed over'. should rory be getting a better shake? absolutely, yes... even his loss, he was winning the fight til 7 seconds left in the 3rd round... and it was to the current [interim] 70 champ. but he also pulled out of two fights due to injury, where nate seems to fight damn near every week. im sure that lowers fighters in the view of silva and dana, undeservedly or not.

Considering Rory McDonald fights at 170 and Jim Miller fights at 155, I think they had some pretty valid reasoning not matching them up together, lol.

Basically - the Diaz/MacDonald fight was at Welterweight... since the fight, Diaz has dropped down to Lightweight and had a couple of great wins and is now in the LW title-picture, while MacDonald is still fighting in the WW division... he probably deserves a better fight at WW though.

It was at a different weight.... duh. Nate beat the out of a top 10 ranked guy, Cerrone. MacDonald hasn't beaten anyone ranked in his weight class. That's why he's not ranked. lol.

As soon as I read the initial post, I was like. "Am I missing something? There in different weight classes right?"

That's where we are right now, nailed it right on the head. Nate was not expected to beat Cerrone, and he completely handled him. Great show, great fight, a game-changer.

So Nate actually beat ANOTHER top-10 fighter at LW, Jim Miller and became the first guy to finish him. Should he be ranked NOW?!

If they were in the same division still, I'd pick Rory to destroy Nate again. No offense to Nate, it just is what it is. Rory's a in animal.

...I'd love to see McDonald against Nick (Diaz) - it would be a really interesting match-up.
