I mostly just collect basic figs so this may different on his elite... Ive noticed for awhile they stopped releasing his "Drug Free" knuckle tats. Now theyre small enough where it really doesnt bother me and I was thinking it was a cost deal, but I noticed on his B18 package they are removed from his image. Any one know or speculate what the deal is with that?

my guess is they removed it from the packaging because the tats aren't on the figure. they still end up on his elites, which is fine with me.
i picked up this fig through mattelshop last week and made a head swap with the elite all-star punk. for some reason i'm not as high on this head scan as the elite 11/macho 2-pack scan. you?

That very well could be. Still on the shelf on this scan, I guess since the other is still fairly new I am just getting used to it. I think I will be more fond of it when I get it in person.

In one of the Q&As, someone asked about that tattoo being left off some figures. Mattel said the legal team advised not replicating that tattoo on the toys. Apparently any mention of drugs, even "drug free" is inappropriate for a toy. Which is fair enough. But just one more thing, Mattel... Some of his figures, like the upcoming Elite 16, do still have the tattoo. So I suspect it's a cost thing and Mattel pretended it's for legal reasons to avoid complaints of them "cheaping out" etc.

I thought I was the only one who didn't care for the scan. I may be wrong but I thought Mattel wanted to remove the drug reference, even though it was a positive one. I swear this was covered in a Q&A.

I had a feeling that that was the case, if it was covered I apologize I havent fully read most of them.
Either way it sucks that basic collectors have to take the hit when they decide to skimp out. I support the Elite line, just prefer basics.

I guess you could say that there's also the idea that Elites are geared toward more of an older/collector audience.

It's obviously a cost thing since his Elites still have the reference. His Royal Rumble figure from way back when was missing the tattoos, but that was in the first few sets. Fast forward 2 years later, and his figures still have the tats. It's a cost thing. The drug reference excuse is clearly made up to avoid looking cheap. When a figure has a brand new headscan and more tattoos (chest) than usual, obviously it will be cost effective. Especially in a set that has a lot of different cost-effective attires and characters. Mattel just needs to be straight with us and tell the truth. They didn't have the budget for it. It's understandable. What isn't understandable is being lied to like we're little kids.

The annoying thing is, they've started omitting tattoos from Punk's elite figures as well. The drug free tats are still there, but the E16 proto is missing the dead fish tattoo on his left shoulder, along with another one that the B18 does have; it looks like a woman in clown make-up and is supposed to be on the back of the left shoulder ball. As for the headscan, i think it's just painted bad. Some highlights on the beard and thinner eyebrows should make it look much better, as the likeness is definitely there.

yeah i was going to post my pix of my B18 punk and ask about the tats, im personally not a big fan of the inconsistencies. its patchy. well lets put this tattoo on cm punk BUT then we cannot put it back on his next figure. Precisely! I really, really hope they didn't skip out on the actual figure and it was just the prototype that was missing it (and E16 is based on aroung MITB/Summerslam time). It makes sense for the dead fish tattoo to be absent since punk got it in late Sptember, but this one needs to be on there SMH.
