So, I was reading throw the threads, and see that some say Randy Orton is a living legend and some say he's a joke..... Most say he's out off WWE for good....
Well, Is he a legend? IMO No. Yes, he has a huge collection of accomplishments in his 10 year run. Multiple time World and WWE champion. Royal Rumble winner. His incredible match with Foley ( Cactus Jack) in his Legend Killer days.... He has really done it all in a 10 year span.
But why isn't he a legend? What defines a legend in the world of pro wrestling? I feel that it's something that changes the foundation of wrestling. Something that sometimes, create a new era. For example, Hulk Hogan. Obvious legend. His body slam on Andre, Defeating Iron Sheik for the world title.... Leaving WWF for rivalry company WCW. Forming the nWo.. Coming back to WWE and becoming WWE champion. His " passing of the tourch" match with The Rock at Wrestlemania. Huge Huge Huge feuds over the years with the likes of Macho Man, Andre, Bundy, Warrior, Sheik, Rock, Goldberg, Sting, Flair, and so many others. Inside and outside the ring, he was and is a legend
Randy Orton, has had some great feuds. When he left Evolution, I had an emotional investment in him. He never slowed down, he moved straight into the next chapter, The Legend Killer..... and it died at Wrestlemania with The Undertaker. I feel with that match, It ended Randy Orton's chances as becoming a legend. Yes, he can draw money, yes he has the ability to sell out arena's, ( Not as much as Cena), But since that time in his career, He has grinded to a sudden stop.
His Viper character was a refreshing start, and Legacy was a nice touch, were we got to see the children of Legendary WWF wrestlers in a faction. But once again, where we could have seen a "Legendary" heel born, they dropped the ball once again. Face heel, face heel..... But the question remains, How can Orton break the glass ceiling to Legendary status?
Let's go with the scenario that Vince doesn't release him, and that on his return, he isn't given the Miz treatment. ( Which IMO I highly doubt due to his drawing power). Randy Orton returns before Summerslam, and obviously is thrown back into the main event mix... But what will happen to Orton???
It just hit me....... Just like Undertaker faced HHH, and their match from years ago as brought up, yet this time we subtract HHH and insert Orton. We all on WFIGS remember saying, I think Orton will be the one to end the streak. We were all so afraid yet so ready for Taker to lose. Well, its time. Its Orton's time. How do we do this? Survivor Series technically turns 25 this year ( starting in 1987). Bret Hart would be my ideal choice, but due to his condition, we may need Anvil here..... Bret Hart comes out at Survivor series , stating that he made a career for himself at Survivor Series and lost it aswell. Basically putting over the importance of the PPV. Out comes Orton. ( A cocky, better than you Orton, i.e 2004).
Saying how he looked up to Bret Hart growing up, seeing him in the locker room as a kid. With the fans cheering in respect shown here beteen past and present stars...... Orton drops the bomb, and say's," And now I see, I'm truly the best there ever will be!" and hits Hart with the RKO.... No fist pumping on the mat, no raising his arms, no Viperesk body movements... Just Orton stairing at Harts motionless body smiling.... Then Randy cuts his own promo..... Saying he is the best there ever ill be. He is destined for greatness that is unacheivable by anyone else but him..... Many have tried in the past, including my mentors from Evolution... He smerks again and walks out.
Over the next few weeks we get video packages of Orton starring at himself in the mirror ( insert home or gym....) telling himself that he is the best.... they all tried, and couldn't do it... I tried, and couldn't do it, but I was young and uneducated, now, Im on my way to becoming more of a legend than anyone else in WWE, HELL, ANYONE IN THE WORLD....
Finally, 3 weeks before Royal Rumble he cuts one last in ring promo.... Ric Flair was my main mentor when i started up my career... Along side HHH. Hell, even Batista gave me pointers in the gym. With all their experience in this ring, and all their own unique atributes, couldn't defeat the one man in the WWE that haunts me. The one man that I suffered a lose to that will never stop haunting me.... HHH tried twice, and couldn't defeat the deadman.... Ric Flair and Batista tried once, and couldn't lay The Undertaker to rest.... Undertaker, your looking at a new and improved, and more hungry Legend Killer than ever before.... You see, HHH and Shanw Micheals, and Ric Flair were all old, and past their prime ( HEAT FROM THE CROWD).... Im not!!!
HHH hits the ring, telling Orton he better watch his mouth, He hasn't had a chance to kick someone's ass since Summerslam ( Lesnar).. Orton smiles.....Triple H begins to explain the ora of Undertaker, and that since Orton last faced him, that he has only gotten stronger, and faster.. Orton continues to smile, almost mocking HHH without words. HHH then starts to raise his voice telling Orton he couldn't handle Taker then, and couldn't handle him now.....
Just as HHH was getting his last word in, Orton hits him with the RKO, setting up a HHH-Orton feud to Royal Rumble. With Orton claimed he is the Best there ever was, and HHH claiming to still be the game, they feud on through Royal Rumble and into No Way Out ( or whatever is the February PPV). HHH and Orton have a DQ at Rumble where we see HHH beat Orton down and pedigree him through the announcer Table. With the Rumble fading to black, we see a shot of HHH pointing at the Wrestlemania sign, saying third times the charm....
(Come February PPV) We have a street fight between Orton and HHH, which is a huge all out brawl, reminesent to the HHH-HBK street fight!!! The finish of the match, we see Triple H going for the pedigree on Orton, the lights go black...... The gong sounds, lights on, and we see Undertaker in the ring, HHH drops Orton out of the pedigree and just leaves the ring, obviously not wanting any part of Taker.... Undertaker just stands there starring at a slowly rising Orton, Undertaker grabs Orton for the chokeslam, lifts Orton into the air, and mid lift, we get a RKO on Undertaker..... HHH comes in to attack Orton from behind, and Orton reverses HHH's attempt into a RKO for the 1-2-3, and we get a fading PPV with Orton pointing to the Wrestlemania sign, smiling and saying, My Time Has Come!!!
With more promos between Orton and Undertaker, with some Graveyard backgrounds, which we get just about every year, we head into Wrestlemania, where this year, the main event is Orton-Undertaker.......No special guest referee, no non-sense, no run ins, just a clean solid match. Alot of back an forth hits, an misses. With Taker hitting a chokeslam on Orton for a 2 count. Undertaker pulling him off the mat, and taking him slowly into the corner, and climbs the rope for the " Going Old School", and in mid-air, hits Taker with a RKO..... and covers Taker... Camera pane sthrough the crowd, everyone covering their mouths...1-2...... Fans at ringside are jumping for Undertaker to..... Kick out, 2 count. Orton seems angry and drained.
He throws Taker to the outside, and puts him onto the announcer table. He now pulls a drained Undertaker up for a RKO which gets reversed into Hells Gate on the announce table.... Ortons screeming, and tapping, which does no good outside the ring. The ref is trying to pull Taker from Orton, and starts his count on Tker to release the hold, and breaks it at 3..... Undertaker climbs down and walks about ringside, while Orton falls of the table.... The crowd is now chanting Taker.... Their pumped. Taker tosses Orton into the ring, and Orton manages to roll back to the outside. Taker chases him at ringside, and Orton suprises Taker with an irish whip into the ring post. Both men are down......The ref starts his ten count..... by 4 both men start rising to their feet..... at 8 both men are on the apron , and at 9, Taker and Orton ar e back in the ring exchanging blows.... With the classic Taker hits YYYYEEEEAAAA chant, Orton hits with the BOOOOO chant.... Orton goes for one more punch, and finds him in the grip for a chokeslam. Taker lifts him up, Orton counters for RKO, and Taker counters that by whiping Orton into the rope.... Taker duckes an attempted clothesline, and counters with a big boot. 1-2...kick out. Now Taker is looking frustrated... Taker starts to pull a nearly fully drained Orton up, and Taker signals for the last ride.... He sets Orton up for the huge powerbomb, and lifts Orton up, and Orton manages to contour't himself into a RKO on Taker.. Using Takers momentum from the last ride along with the RKO, he crawls over to pin Undertaker....1-2... this looks to be it.....Some fans in the crowd start to show emotions, and Taker kicks out. Both men are taking one another to the edge of hell in a epically grueling match up. Orton stands up, showing fatigue , and throws his arms in the air, signaling for yet another RKO, Taker sits up, and Randy atempts the RKO, which is countered into some boxing jabs, 1, 2, 3, 4,5 blows to orton, backing him into the corner..... Where Taker takes him up and connects with the "Old School"..... Now Taker signals for his finisher, with the thumb across his throat, eyes rolled back into his head, he now stalks Orton for the tombstone piledriver..... He lifts Orton up for the tombstone, and Orton falls back, and now lifts Undertaker up......WHats this?? The crowd is almost in shock.... RANDY ORTON JUST HIT THE UNDERTAKER WITH THE TOMBSTONE!!!! Fans are now crying....1....2.......3!!!! OMG Taker lost, Randy WON...Taker is now 21-1 at Wrestlemania...
And that has now launched Orton into full Legendary status, and has Taker pass the torch for retirement, all while bringing up some of WWE's rich past all in one awesome feud. Changing the WWE and wrestling history forever!!!
Do you think it would work?
