In other news, I actually think the fight should have been stopped in round 2. ...I thought the ref was being very lenient towards Franklin - it could have easily have been stopped (OK, I'm a big Wandy fan - but go and re-watch the end of the second round, people... especially when Franklin is face-down on the canvas with 16 seconds left...). Still, credit to Franklin... he did really well to come back and deserved the decision. And surely the second round should have been a 10-8 round? If you heavily drop your opponent and come very close to finishing the fight... it's still only scored 10-9? Not that it mattered in the end - but if the fight had been a little closer, it could have made a big difference.

It's funny when you see the very first Facebook fight (Felipe Arantes vs. Milton Vieira), that fight was scored a draw because of a 10-8 round, which I didn't think was 10-8, then the judges DON'T give Wanderlei a 10-8 round for that beating? Give me a ing break, man. I know Wandy isn't what he used to be, but I'm never gonna be the one to say he should retire. He went 5 pretty serious rounds, took a bunch of punishment and still tried to swing for the fences. He CAN still compete with top guys, but there's just something missing. SUPER props to Rich, though. I wasn't saying that to downgrade Rich's performance and toughness. I just thought it should have been stopped after all those punches.

^ I'm not saying the fight SHOULDN'T have been stopped in round 2, it questionably COULD have been for sure, there's no doubt about that. I think sometimes it depends on which referee you have. Some referees tend to let the action continue longer than it should and they give fighters more of a chance and some referees decide to stop the action too early.
We've all seen numerous questionable calls over the years, wether a fight was stopped too soon or not soon enough or not at all.
I think if Dan Miragliotta was the referee for the Franklin/Wanderlei rematch, it probably would have been stopped, but he wasn't, Mario Yamasaki was and he chose to let the action continue.
You never know. It was a questionable call. It looked like Franklin was on his way out and it certainly COULD have been stopped. I won't argue that at all.

It just frustrates me that people are still saying Wanderlei is "done". Obviously over the last few years, he has been on the decline and his record lately speaks for that. But, he was literally 3 seconds away from KO/TKO'ing Franklin, who has only ever been finished by Vitor and Anderson in the UFC. I also think THAT speaks volumes when you consider how great of a fighter Franklin is himself.

Wanderlei is NOT done. Not in the least. He may not win every fight, but still puts on great performances. He still goes out there and gives his all.
If he still ends up fighting Vitor at some point and ends up losing, then possible retirement MIGHT loom on the horizon. You never know.
As it stands now, in my opinion, Wanderlei is NOT "done". There's still some exciting fights for him to have before he calls it a career.
