Just preordered the NECA Turtles through GameStop’s website. Sucks having to wait till February but at least I was able to actually do the preorder this time, unlike for the SDCC set.

Very much stoked about this.
I'm loving hearing people already bitch and moan about how they paid extra for the SDCC set and how this isn't fair.
I say hug 'em! Let everyone get a shot at these!

I agree. But the ones that bitch are the ones that collect for value, not to have things they love. And I'm not a fan of them anyway lmao.

Kinda sucks for those with the SDCC Turtles, way less special now... and cheaper.

I pre ordered a set to keep the individual figures MOC. I feel really bad for anyone who paid $250 or whatever after SDCC thinking they weren’t going to get a set. NECA has never been able to do this to my knowledge. I love the packaging and the extra parts but I’m guessing there isn’t going to be enough difference that people feel justified in the extra $100+ now or whatever. Especially given most of those same people probably dropped $400 or so on the giant versions.
I do think it’s awesome everyone now has a shot. Which is ultimately the takeaway here. Amazing dream figures that anyone who grew up watching those movies should be able to own. I just think from NECA’s side it was deceiving to do the big versions knowing the 7” versions were coming and then likewise selling the SDCC versions without communicating a normal release was on the way.

Kinda sucks for those with the SDCC Turtles, way less special now... and cheaper. I’m fine with it. Prefer the giant VHS packaging and the added accessories with the SDCC. GameStop will be a 7” version of of the 1:4 figures. Same packaging and only come with weapons. Plus I have em now and don’t have to wait 6 months.

Very naive opinion of people who paid extra, considered they paid the extra value. To say they collect for value is an oxymoron. I'm a clearance and bargain shopper, some might even say I'm cheap, but the point is that most people want the best deal they can get. If the people who paid $200 plus had the gift of foresight they wouldn't complain. I mean, some paid $100 over (and a lot paid $250 over retail). The collectors are upset because they didn't get the best deal possible knowing what we know now. Have some empathy. I'm cool with making them accessible to collectors outside of SDCC. I think it opens the door for a more immediate release of other characters from the movie(s). Hopefully we won't have to wait for the next SDCC to get 4 more figures (prolly likely to happen sense these are due out February). Personally, I can't complain about the value as I had the set and diorama gifted to me. Still, stinks for collectors who have stressed over getting a set for themselves and resorting to second market shopping.

And I'm sure these won't be the exact same. Different packaging or accessories or even just the sticker. Ask the sticker queens in funko groups how much stickers matter.

I mean, I guess I can say "hey that sucks", but I just don't really feel bad for someone who paid a price they were willing to pay to get something they wanted. All told, these figures are going to cost almost 100 bucks at Gamestop (before shipping). The price isn't THAT much different from what NECA was selling the set for at SDCC. Now, if someone went to eBay or wherever else...then that was their choice to do so.

Even still, people pay a premium to get things "first" all the time. And I'm sure these won't be the exact same. Different packaging or accessories or even just the sticker. Ask the sticker queens in funko groups how much stickers matter. As someone who is a mild Funko collector, I realize the demographic (as a whole) is becoming more and more toxic by the year. I like meeting collectors in the wild. I often like to network with locals. Recently, I met a hardcore Funko pop collector that immediately told me that he carries a gun with him when he goes on hunts. Whether it was true or not mattered little to me, I was already done with the conversation.. a bit extreme imo. Still the counter-points you are making are not valid when it comes to the NECA turtles. Everyone paid the same (retail) to get these first. No collector knew that these would be re-released individually. Even so, the collectors that paid second market prices paid what they thought was the best price at the time. Although, I agree with you about paying a premium to get an item "first" people do it all the time. For some, it's an impulsive decision. For others, it's the amount of disposable income they have. Regardless, try reading peoples angry post as venting of frustration. They are upset and feel like it's safe to vent among good company. He did say that to some extent... there is a lack of empathy in your example statement (although "hey that sucks" is sympathy, not the same). To sum it up, he said they buy toys to sell them (for a higher price) later... Even though, the collectors complaining already paid the higher price. Regardless, everything is a cycle. This will blow off and collectors will find something else to argue about. My personal opinion, the word exclusive is losing it's meaning real fast. NECA isn't the first to re-release figures. Hasbro is pushing hard with slightly modified paint jobs or parts to justify re-releasing BAFs in their 10 years line, Mattel is slowly re-leasing Elites with high second market prices. No exclusive is genuinely an exclusive these days.

I really don't think the people who were lucky to get them should be all that upset. Look at your pros, get them EARLIER than February 2019, get them in that cool packaging and the accessories. Cons, what it cost a little less, which is not that big of a difference, if ordered online, they were $119. There's no reason to hold ill will towards neca or anyone. I tried all 3 days and on the last day I was really close to getting one set for myself and that "you're next in line" took forever which I lost out. So yeah, I was extremely happy to preorder them at gamestop!

I think before shipping and tax my set was $125. Not much of a difference between that and the price of getting all 4 Turtles. Plus I’m looking at the possibility of getting future individual movie figures at GameStop like Shredder and Foot Soldiers. And maybe we could even get Splinter, Casey, and perhaps April. Hell go even more nuts and do the Samurai Turtles from the 3rd movie (I still think that one was pretty decent btw).

Hell, I'd even buy TMNT II Secret of the Ooze figures....the suits still looked good in that movie: I'm out on TMNT III though....suits looked like trash, unfortunately. I still don't understand wtf happened with that movie. The story not withstanding...who designed those suits and who was like "yeah, this looks great"....did they even see the first two movies or compare them to ANYTHING? TMNT III hits me right in the childhood.

i really dont know what to do....because i have the giant ones and they are the coolest things ever....but 7" just fits more with everything else i own and its what i wanted from the beginning....
plus what if they actually do make more 7" figures from that movie, and not the giant ones?
sucks for people that paid twice or thrice as much for the SDCC set to be honest...maybe the original cost is the same but they knew by limiting it people would pay a higher price if they werent able to get it right away...and now you've got people who paid after market so much more because they believed the SDCC set was going to be the only one...pretty sure they "sold" it as that being the only release too

They really do look spectacular and have a pop and a life to them that just can't be captured in the 7" scale. That being said....I will not be buying any additional 1/4 scale characters. I've got the 4 turtles, I don't need to have every character in giant 1/4 scale form. The story keeps changing with NECA and they can and will probably at some point claim that Movie Foot Soldier and/or Movie Shredder are ONLY going to be in 1/4 scale and legally it can NEVER be made in 7" scale.....a year later they'll drop the "BOMBSHELL" that they figured out a way and Shredder and Foot Soldier will be exclusive to whatever at some wacky price and it's the ONLY RELEASE EVER and after we make them we are literally DESTROYING THE 7" MOLDS!!!!!!!!!! 7 months later they'll be at GameStop. So I'm not sweating NECA anymore at this point. They can say what they want and try and get everyone on the hype train......eventually, we'll all be able to get whatever we want, it might just take some time. I'm not buying the NEVER EVER's from NECA anymore. We all bought those giant turtles because 7" figures were never going to happen so if you wanted those movie versions, it HAD to be 1/4 because 7" was not gonna happen ever for any reason in any way shape or form. Definition of IMPOSSIBLE. Well, 2 years later I own Movie 7" Turtles. But from this point on I'm going to only continue with the 7" NECA Turtle line. The 1/4 scale Jason is $124 on Amazon....I just don't feel like dropping that much money on giant figures I really don't have room for. $124 a few years down the line could be 7" Movie Shredder and 3 or 4 7" Foot Soldiers. The bottom line is NECA makes the best stuff and it's only going to get better and I'm glad that we are able to do the things that were once said to be impossible. Retail release of 7" TMNT figures by a company other than Playmates is HUGE. It opens the door for more awesome things in the future. And I bet in less than 2 years we'll have 7" Shredder and Foot Soldier figures and they'll probably be available at retail, too! If we could just get them on AMAZON or in Target and not make Gamestop be the only retail avenue, that would be even better!
