Wrestling fans with DirecTV might be out of luck this Thursday night if they're expecting to watch Imact Wrestling on Spike TV.
DirecTV and Viacom (parent company of Spike TV, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, VH1, CMT and others) have been unable to reach an agreement regarding carriage fees, so the channels have been pulled from the cable service. The previous contract expired over the weekend.
DirecTV EVP Derek Chang made the following statement on the matter:
"We have absolutely no problem compensating Viacom fairly, but they have now knowingly put our customers in the unreasonable position of either accepting their extravagant financial demands or losing some of their favorite TV shows."
"We feel our customers should not have to pay more for these networks than the customers of any other TV provider. We reiterated this to Viacom today and have not heard back from them."
"DirecTV added that Viacom demanded the channels get taken down and said, "We asked Viacom to allow us to keep the channels up while we continue to negotiate, but they refused. We're working diligently on a new agreement to keep making these channels available at a fair price to our customers."
We'll post an update when this situation changes and if DirecTV & Viacom are able to come to terms on a new agreement.
I copied this from another website to make it more understandable of what the situation is.

I dont see it making much of a difference. Honestly there are 10 other things that could do more harm to the company then this.

Not really to be honest. Actually with that TNA get's lower ratings and it means those who have directv are being canceled out of watching TNA. And that means TNA won't be able to broadcast in directv anymore. So it could or may harm them.

Ratings will take a hit, but it won't hurt the company at all.

So people will either watch it on youtube the following day, or download a torrent of the show half an hour after it airs.
Not a total loss.

This is all viacoms fault. Don't be fooled, this is as much DirecTV's fault as well. They are playing that commercial like they are a bunch of martyrs but they share 50% of the blame imo. I'm just going to have to watch on YouTube on Friday, as I don't really have another option. DirecTV accounts for 20% of Viacom's viewership, so the TNA ratings are going to take a hit, period. This should be Austin Aries and TNA's most shining moment in the last like 2 and a half years, and this corporate cock fight is going to ing ruin it to some degree. TNA is doing the right thing right now though so they need to let this get worked out and focus on controlling the things they actually do control right now.

How can anyone say that this isn't a bad thing for TNA? When WCW didn't have a network to show its show, they died. Now, of course, we have the interweb and whatnot to watch whatever show we would miss. But TNA needs the sponsors that advertise during their shows. This will cause them all to lose money. Without TV? Any wrestling company will die a lot sooner than later.
I'm sure both parties will come to an agreement. They are both losing so much money and something will be settled. Instead of 3 cents more, they will settle for 1.5 cents more.

Disaster averted? -------------------------------------------------- Also, TNA's been in a similar jam in the past. They got canned from Fox Sports Network in 2005(?). They survived by putting their shows up for torrent download. example

Like someone else said the one time tna starts to gt good DTV pulls this crap. Absolute bullcrap. Its Viacom's fault, not DirecTv. This is all viacoms fault. TNA is doing the right thing right now though so they need to let this get worked out and focus on controlling the things they actually do control right now. Unlike cable and the ever rising rates, DirecTV customers dont have this issue. Cable would concede and just pass the buck onto the customer. DirecTV is willing to pay more for Viacom stations just b/c of inflation, eventhough Viacom ratings down since the last contract. I think that is MORE THAN FAIR, considering DirecTV is paying more for less. Don't be fooled, this is as much DirecTV's fault as well. They are playing that commercial like they are a bunch of martyrs but they share 50% of the blame imo. DirecTV - Doesn't want to raise their customer's prices. Viacom - Wants more money. Thats why all the TNA employees are tweeting and showing support for Viacom, painting DirecTV as the bad guys who took away Impact and Spike from customers. When in fact DirecTV offered to keep the old deal in place so the customers were not affected while they continued to negotitate. Viacom refused, went black and THEN took the online viewing ability away from ALL customers.

DirecTV - Doesn't want to raise their customer's prices. Viacom - Wants more money. Who's the bad guy here? DirecTV also advertises those 26 channels as part of the package I pay for every month and now I don't get them. My bill would only be increasing because DTV would be passing the buck onto customers, so why should I paint them as some kind of hero? Financially speaking, I agree with DirecTV. Viacom is trying to take advantage of them, and they have no leverage to ask for more money. However, as a consumer, I really don't give a flying . I want the channels that are advertised as part of my packaged and I don't want to be bothered by all of it. I've had a string of problems with DTV, including them dropping Fox and Viacom channels on separate occasions over public disputes. I'm switching when I move but I genuinely think DTV sucks.
