Have you joined the HD era yet? Yes, but it's not really needed. Well at least for me, you don't need blu-ray when you have an HD tv. That's irrelevant and redundant. thank you for the laugh...... i needed that... if you have the equiptment to play the best possible format... why not have the best quality things? BD are better than dvds.. and with the correct cords and equiptment it is NOT irrelevant and redundant....

I believe playing a CD on my tv screen is big enough. Or you can go to the theater, which is a lot better. But... yeah

But... yeah ill take my bluray player , 52" tv , surround sound , comfy ass chair and CHEAP drinks and snacks at home.. which is A LOT better.. but yeah... my cheap theater here , is $8 a person .. so the wife and i will need two tickets.. the medium combo for popcorn and drink is $12... so , thats $28 to see a movie... and if im willing to go see it in theater , im more than likely going to buy it anyway.. the bluray will be cheaper than that while on sale the first week.. so yeah... ill stick with that.... you're welcome..........

Blu Ray's are a total waste of money imo. I can personally tell a big different in the picture.

I now only buy blu rays, but refuse to convert my extremely large DVD collection over. While there might be a slight increase in quality, I dont think it's enough to spend the money

I'm so confused by some of these replies. Waste of money? Blu-rays are the same price as DVD's now. I get $7 dollar Blu-rays all the time.
Also, Skits !, so what you're saying is when you own an HDTV, you don't need HD compatible software to use on your HDTV? .... errr... zzzz. ... cannot .. compute...

My assumption is that a lot of people simply don't understand the difference. Sure, it's a matter of preference, and if you want to consider blu-ray a "waste of money", go ahead. If you know where to shop, Blu-Ray combo packs (which include DVD copies) are only a couple dollars more than DVDs at best, sometimes the same price, and in situations where coupons are involved, even less than the stand-alone DVD counterpart.
It is, however, an irrefutable fact that Blu-Rays are vastly superior to DVDs in way of picture of audio quality. That isn't a subject that is debatable.

Its true blu Rays are better. You CANT dispute the quality.
DVDs are 8 gigs Blu rays are 25 gigs, 50 if its dual layered.

And Amazon is very cheap. it also matters what product you are looking at... if its an old movie.. yeah the dvd will be very cheap.. look at the selection of the $10 movies at walmart.. i love CRAP movies , but there is a ton of horrible things there... you can go to best buy , they have a great section of cheap blurays too.. $7-$10 for usually a great selection of good movies...

Amazon has consistently great deals. Best Buy is pretty damn good with their sales on blu rays as well. I don't buy DVDs anymore, unless it's something like ROH which isn't on blu ray. I won't convert my collection, I'll just repurchase my favorites. Really though, the only ones I've converted over so far are the Dark Knight and Iron Man, which was my first blu ray.
