Mattel gave us a nice mix, and definitely gave us some guys that we probably should not have gotten in the early Legends lines imo. I mean what guy that Mattel is able to make do you feel like is definitively missing from your collection? First, thanks for the belated birthday wishes guys, you're all the best! ;D And you're right, Mattel has given us a nice mix, but what's missing from my definitive collection personally? Surfer StingSteiner BrothersMidnight Express - beautiful Bobby & Sweet Stan The Rock N Roll Express Nikita Koloff Lex LugerBarry WindhamMagnum T. A. Ronnie GarvinGreg Valentine Honky Tonk ManJYD - red or white tights with a "THUMP" Tito Santana - El matador Don Muraco Jimmy Superfly barefeet and in trunksLOD in redSgt. Slaugther in camoThe Hart FoundationThe British BulldogsThe Powers of Pain Harlem HeatStrikeforce Bruiser Brody Abdullah the Butcher The Great MutaCactus JackTerry TaylorDr. Death Steve Williams Kevin Sullivan Mike Rotundo - both Varsity and IRSa Stunning Steve Austin (for another Dangerous Alliance member) Dustin Rhodes Ron Simmons The Natural Butch Reed Sid ViciousA "Flyin'" Brian PillmanJushin Thunder LigerWMIII Ricky SteamboatElite-style M$MFreebirds - Gordy, Hayes, Garvin, and Roberts <-- somebodies got to face the Von Erich boys! 80s Jerry Lawler and yes, I'd pick Van Hammer over Health Slater any day! - yes most of these are unrealstic due to licences, legitimate peg warmers, and heavily NWA/WCW influenced...but you did ask for my definitive list I want all those haha. Some of those I think we are going to see happen. HTM, Cactus Jack, The Steiners, and Sid. I see no reason why IRS and Dibiase can't make the FBs line either, with tag titles maybe.

I'm 31, and feel about the same. Time really flies, and it hits me at times when I realize my son has never heard of Papa Shango lol. But these are the wrestling figures I wish I would have been able to collect as a kid, back when you never knew what was gonna be at the store and the back of the card was the only source of news...It kinda sucks though that we as collectors have been educated enough on the business side of things that we know for sure some things just won't get made. I am happy though that mattel has made a ton of the guys that I had Hasbros of, and some that I never did get to have figures of in any form. Mattel still has the license for a few more years, so there is a chance for plenty more legends to come, it's just gonna be slow.

Mattel's biggest mistake was catering to the guys who were missing those 10 or 20 guys in their Jakks collection. The intent was thoughtful, but personally Mattel underestimated their product. I was a guy who missed the boat on Jakks CS. I tried starting a CSD collection but that wore thin really fast. For me I was happy to get any Legend from Mattel, and quite frankly I think Mattel did it better. The obscure outfits were nice and I understood why they were making figs like that, but even I have to admit, it would have been nice to get a Camo Sarge or barefoot Snuka. I'll still take the Road Warriors over LOD though. I am sure Mattel will do what they can to keep the engine going for us. Marketing has proven that nostalgia sells which is why movies are constantly getting remade. We were the marketing age and now companies can double dip and make money off us twice from the same product since we are older and have money to spend, and I love every minute of it. BTW the definitive figure I need in my collection would be Hayabusa. I think it'll be a while before Mattel gets to that one.

Its just no one knows those guys really beyond having them and not fitting into there collection. Think of it this way, there is not a lot of 30 + year old guys buying toys and playing with them. At least there are way way way more kids out there buying the toys and thats what Mattel caters to. There is not enough money to be made on Mattel's part from the hand full of adult collectors to justify production of older stars. I would LOVE seeing some guys like Hollywood Blondes, Skinner, Berzerker, Natural Disasters, IRS etc But lets face it, that is probably never going to happen unless Mattel has this WWE contract for 10-20 years and gets all the big names done and repaints, then we may start to see those less popular, less well known individuals. Just think of it from there side. They are a multi million dollar toy company who works everyday to make money by selling there product. If they made something less known and less popular, there not going to make money. So they stick to guys in the 90's to today and there guaranteed to sell. Guys from the 80's had there chance to shine and all they did was warm pegs and kill off the legends line. Terry Funk, Sgt Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat etc etc They only had a few guys that really took off and they were the big name guys like Warrior, Andre, Road Warriors. Magnum T.A just aint at that level. I know his fans think of him as that level, but in the real picture, he isn't. Those 80's guys killed off the legends that we all bitch about everyday. There is no way in hell, i would want to see them keep making them and blow flashbacks for us now.

Sometimes it feels like just yestaday I was cutting the back out of the Hasbros figure card and playing with the pictures of the figures I wanted (not well off)...or when I found a Rick Rude hasbro on the floor near my house....or going to school.....
Now I'm 27 and collecting again after 14 years of been too grown up but my hunger for nostalgia can't be eased as much as I wanted by Mattel... :-(

I just had my 34th birthday this past Sunday - thanks for the well wishes you basserds! And this whole fiasco of the Legends line and the constant irritating debate over releasing a Magnum T. A. figure made me realize that damnit...I'm and old wrestling fan now. To add insult to injury it's not even a debate over the 80s anymore, apparently that's considered the Jurassic period on these boards; it's the Attitude Era guys that are now considered "classic"...ouch! Everything has to evolve, and wrestling is no different. It's not like I don't appreciate guys like Dolph Ziggler (who will be a MAJOR player on his way to having a career like Ric Flair) but I guess for me is that I envy what Mattel is able to produce now to what we used to get. We've got awesome wrestling action figures with real-life likeness and mind-blowing articulation that are leaps and bounds better than the 5 lbs of rubber LJNs we had before. Yeah LJNs/Hasbros/Galoobs/Remco have their charm, but Mattels are so very far advanced and I would have loved to see all my old favourites updated. Modern-era collectors really are benefiting, as they should, it's their time now. But there-in lies the irony, aren't collectors generally supposed to be older? I know how you feel bro, I'm 27, however, I have watched and know a hell of a lot about wrestling from way back in the 70s. I've read books about Legends and watched old matches etc. I also know every single main event of every single PPV ever, my point is, it annoys me when I hear that the Attitude Era is considered the only focus on Legends and also why don't people who claim they love wrestling, why don't they research and build up their knowledge from previous generations?! I was born in 1984 but still know about guys who inspired today's and Legends characters such as the original "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers inspired Ric Flair, etc. Maybe I'm just old school, but the fact that guys like Vader, Sid and LOD Animal appear and nobody knows them is just plain ignorance!! I'd love to see guys like Magnum TA, Harley Race etc produced as figures, just can't see it happening and not because of Mattel, it is WWE's fault producing a show these days that is aimed at a lower demographic!!

I think I'm the only old guy who wants more figures from WWF/WCW/ECW Monday Night Wars era. Prior to that, I lost interest in wrestling for several years and there are very few figures Mattel hasn't made that I "need'.
