I just had my 34th birthday this past Sunday - thanks for the well wishes you basserds! And this whole fiasco of the Legends line and the constant irritating debate over releasing a Magnum T. A. figure made me realize that damnit...I'm and old wrestling fan now. To add insult to injury it's not even a debate over the 80s anymore, apparently that's considered the Jurassic period on these boards; it's the Attitude Era guys that are now considered "classic"...ouch! Everything has to evolve, and wrestling is no different. It's not like I don't appreciate guys like Dolph Ziggler (who will be a MAJOR player on his way to having a career like Ric Flair) but I guess for me is that I envy what Mattel is able to produce now to what we used to get. We've got awesome wrestling action figures with real-life likeness and mind-blowing articulation that are leaps and bounds better than the 5 lbs of rubber LJNs we had before. Yeah LJNs/Hasbros/Galoobs/Remco have their charm, but Mattels are so very far advanced and I would have loved to see all my old favourites updated. Modern-era collectors really are benefiting, as they should, it's their time now. But there-in lies the irony, aren't collectors generally supposed to be older?

yep. we're old. At least we know it. Watching some of the RSC wrestler interviews its funny, because Brodus or Bret Hart will talk about how they wished they had figures like these growing up. I feel the same way.
I have no clue how i had so much fun bashing heavy rubber wrestlers with 0 pts of articulation around my home made ring.
legends collectors seem upset that they will likely never see certain wrestlers. And personally yeah i want alot of 80's-90's mid carders too. But then I really think about it. Back when I was 8yrs old would I have wanted a Pat Patterson, Pedro Morales, Bobo Brazil or Lou Thesz figure. Heck no...and those were the bigger stars from before my time. I didn't even want the Bruno Sammartino LJN when i was a kid. I didn't know who he was and didn't care. I wanted Macho, Hogan, Steamboat. I wanted the guys i loved watching on Saturday Nights Main Event and Superstars

Don't worry dude the 80's will have it's comeback in time. Don't forget too the new WWE 13 video game is going to feature a lot of Attitude Era guys so this is probably why we are seeing more of them. Yes they are old enough now to have "Classic" value, but WWE 13 will serve as a good advertising vehicle, and Mattel would be stupid to not take advantage of exposure like that. Old, Young, and new fans will be playing that game and I am sure there will be a decent amount of kids that will want some figures of some characters. Perhaps even ones that aren't signed to a legends deal.
What guys like you and I need to do is hope for the next game to have a "Classic" Era Mode. Mattel wasn't making WWE figs when Legends of WM came out, and that too was it's own game... which sucked IMHO.

Well first Happy Belated bday! Second as a fan who came to age in the Attitude Era, i still agree we need 80s eea figures. I want a Starrcade 83 Harley Race, a proper NWA World Champion Dusty Rhodes, Windham, Rotundo, Clash of the Champions Sting and of course Flair and Hogan. And yes Magnum. You are completely correct about the 80sheavyweights being considered Jurassic now. Hell even the early 90s are old now. Bob Backlund got 0 reaction when he was on raw. However the collectors now are hearing all these great stories about the attitude Era and so they want figures of the guys theyve been hearing about. Im a tweener, i want 80s legends but im not opposed to 90s and early 00s guys being made.

I'm honestly just thankful for the guys that were really the big stars when I got to be big into wrestling, HBK, Bret, Nash, Yoko, have not been passed over for the more late 90's early 2000's Attitude Era guys. But to be fair, we got Macho Man in excess, we got Piper, we got Dibiase, Boss Man, Akeem, Martel, Steamboat, Dusty, Warrior, and we will eventually get Hogan and Flair, and hopefully Sting. I mean I have Mattel versions of the Bushwackers, which I think is both ridiculous and awesome. LOD, Rude, and a couple Jakes. We got Kerry ING Von Erich, which was a massive want but something I thought I never would see, AND we got two versions of him. Mattel gave us a nice mix, and definitely gave us some guys that we probably should not have gotten in the early Legends lines imo. I mean what guy that Mattel is able to make do you feel like is definitively missing from your collection? Not Andre, not Bundy, how about Perfect? We got a ton of the big names. Magnum TA? I get it, but he's hardly Ricky Steamboat and definitely not Macho Man imo. I think we got way too caught up in not getting every single guy and missed appreciating what Mattel did make for us. We are the minority, all it really comes down to at this point. We are the back end of the wrestling demographic. Oh, and happy belated Birthday! ;D

This thread is depressing. Hopefully Mattel finds more ways of getting Legends out.

I love the Legends and Classic Superstars line as much as the next guy in line, but you won't hear me complain about the Legends line being done....95% of the wrestlers that were in the major companies already have a wrestling figure to collect in some line. As much as I would love to see guys like Sid Vicious in my Mattel collection, I can live without him because he has been made in 20 different wrestling figure sets (Toybiz, hasbro, galoob, Jakks, Just Toys, just to name a few). Let's move on be and be happy with what we have got and the few that we will continue to get in the flashbacks. The wrestlers of the past had their time in the plastic form. Let's let the new guys get their chance. I'd much rather see Mattel focus on making the few guys on the roster that haven't got the plastic treatment yet *Caugh Tyler Reks Caugh* then worry about making someone from 1985. That's just me.

I mean what guy that Mattel is able to make do you feel like is definitively missing from your collection? First, thanks for the belated birthday wishes guys, you're all the best! ;D And you're right, Mattel has given us a nice mix, but what's missing from my definitive collection personally? Surfer Sting Steiner Brothers Midnight Express - beautiful Bobby & Sweet Stan The Rock N Roll Express Nikita Koloff Lex Luger Barry Windham Magnum T. A. Ronnie Garvin Greg Valentine Honky Tonk Man JYD - red or white tights with a "THUMP" Tito Santana - El matador Don Muraco Jimmy Superfly barefeet and in trunks LOD in red Sgt. Slaugther in camo The Hart Foundation The British Bulldogs The Powers of Pain Harlem Heat Strikeforce Bruiser Brody Abdullah the Butcher The Great Muta Cactus Jack Terry Taylor Dr. Death Steve Williams Kevin Sullivan Mike Rotundo - both Varsity and IRS a Stunning Steve Austin (for another Dangerous Alliance member) Dustin Rhodes Ron Simmons The Natural Butch Reed Sid Vicious A "Flyin'" Brian Pillman Jushin Thunder Liger WMIII Ricky Steamboat Elite-style M$M Freebirds - Gordy, Hayes, Garvin, and Roberts <-- somebodies got to face the Von Erich boys! 80s Jerry Lawler and yes, I'd pick Van Hammer over Health Slater any day! - yes most of these are unrealstic due to licences, legitimate peg warmers, and heavily NWA/WCW influenced...but you did ask for my definitive list

Happy Birthday Bandy. To answer your question 34 for me was 10 years ago. lol And I'd get everyone on your list minus Jushin Thunder Liger, el Matador (rather IC Champ Tito) and maybe Ron Garvin (Never a fan of "Hands of Stone" or "Rugged" Ron Garivn).
And I'd get a Van Hammer over Slater, Hawkins, Ricardo, Long, Big Johnny & Hornswaggle.
Here's how I'd rank my Top 10 from your list -
1. Surfer Sting 2. Steiner Brothers 3. The Hart Foundation 4. The British Bulldogs 5. Don Muraco 6. Jimmy Superfly- barefeet and in trunks 7. Tito Santana (IC champ) 8. Magnum TA 9. Barry Windham 10. Harlem Heat

I'm sad now, Mattel has released some great figures but with legends gone now its gonna be hard to get our favorites guys from the 80s. Now i kinda of wished Jakks heads were smaller and Mattels bodies were a little bigger so i could make more customs.

We're not old. You can just blame WWE for catering to children for the past 10 years. Basically they pushed the huge adult fan base out of being fans of the WWE and cater towards children. Therefore children want to see things like Attitude Era Gimmicks and flashbacks of Cena/Orton/Mysterio. When Jakks were releasing their Classic line, WWE had yet/just starting to push away their adult fans so there were still adult fans to buy/associate with their product.
Oh and Happy Birthday btw!

Modern-era collectors really are benefiting, as they should, it's their time now. But there-in lies the irony, aren't collectors generally supposed to be older? I don't think collectors are supposed to be anything. They are what they are, and the numbers don't lie. The biggest selling legends, according to Mattel, were Macho Man, Warrior, and the Rock. And obviously the Attitude Era, specifically the WWF guys, is still fondly looked upon by a number of fans who buy action figures. If 80s doesn't sell well, which I don't think you can truly judge the 80s until they release Hogan and Flair, then those stats above tells us who the collectors truly are. If the 80s get no love, then that must mean the 80s draw few collectors. New collectors are coming of age, and their golden era was about 1989 to 2002 (based on a lot of what I read people say). Not everyone who collects Mattel legends collected Jakks, btw, which SEEMS to be a major misconception. I think Jakks satisfied a lot of people, but new collectors are always coming along. Those looking to Mattel to polish off their old lines are looking in the wrong place. It was the right place at the beginning, with obscure attires, but that obviously killed the line. So it's time to begin anew with products geared to the new collector, not the old collectors looking for those last 10 or 20 guys to round off the edges of their Jakks.

Yea we are too old now, i know that when all my favorite music from high school is now considered "classic rock"... I'm 33...we are krusty old farts in the collecting world...but we also have the money now unlike when we were kids...but apparently not enough of us give a crap about old school wrestlers to justify a full blown legends like...maybe jakks classic superstars line wore everyone out and too many are resistant to start over?? I know I was hesitant at first, but now I'm 100% TeamMattel
AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROSKI

yeh current wrestling caters to kids......but so did the wrestling I grew up with. Hulkamania was for the kids. Its what I grew up on.......he was our Cena.
Its hard enough getting Mattel to release current mid-carders/jobbers.....asking for classic ones is a stretch. I would love a Junk Yard Dog, but honestly would rather have a Hawkins/Reks elite. JYD will always have a chance to get more figures. Its not like some wrestling figure company 20 yrs from now will have a legends line w/ Curt Hawkins in it. I want the current guys while we can still get them.......since Mattel almost hates to make Elites of wrestlers that are lower on the cards.
As soon as i started hearing Nirvana, Sublime, Pearl Jam on classic rock stations, i knew i was old.
