Been listening to a lot of people comment about how the TV/radio media is getting out of hand with shaping peoples opinions. I tend to agree a bit, but I also think people just are becoming more lazy and don't wanna take the time to think for themselves. Then again, tv/radio media has to compete with other forms of media now, but still they need to be held accountable for what they do and the influence they have, I believe. Thoughts?

That is one of the forms of a social institution nowadays. I learned that the media is one of them in Sociology class. I do believe the media gets everybody on the bandwagon in the court of public opinion

I don't listen to the radio and I don't have cable. I try to stay away from main stream media as much as possible.

If people weren't so ing stupid, this wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, the majority of people, especially us Americans, believe everything they hear or see in the media, and let the opinions of those telling/showing them override their actual feelings. And before some ass from another country comes in and starts insulting Americans, piss off, your people, wherever they may be from, are just as bad.

the majority of people are dumb, so whatever they hear is going to influence them.

I like the folks who complain about the "liberal media" who watch Fox News and think they call it right down the middle. Sadly there are a lot of angry blind people who think that.
One problem is that polarizing irresponsible media seems to attract more attention than reasonable responsible media. And "media watchdogs" who only attack media that don't agree with them are useless.

"Held accountable" for what? Exercising their first amendment rights?

Liberals report their point of view as often as conservatives. I have quite a few friends identifying themselves as liberals that think Fox News, Glenn Beck, etc. are wrong 100% of the time, but never actually listen to what they have to say. Both sides are biased and view each other misinformed.

People are out of control and irresponsible for believing whatever they are told, and allowing newscasters, political analysts, and talk show hosts to form their opinions for them.

I would say parts of TV are out of control. When you realize stations have agendas they're easy to stay away from them if you don't care. NPR(who are liberal media by definition, not political agenda) and PBS are probably the closest you get to actual news sources. They present the stories in the driest manner because they're publicly funded and are legally not allowed to present stories with a bias unless it also features the other side. I work for a publicly funded college station and we're governed the same way. However, cable TV and stations owned by conglomerates can say whatever they want. If they choose to not present the news truthfully and people believe them, then that's their staff's morality issues to deal with. I get my news from lots of places, TV not being one of them unless it's BBC news.
But also maybe I should bring up that Fox News wasn't allowed to move into Canada due to their laws against lying in the media.
