I've been a little bit consumed lately by my wife getting a new job and our subsequent moving from NY to Boston, but I found time to squeak out a rare Mattel WWE Review today. The subject? The impressively enormous Money in the Bank Ladder, as well as its accessory--the ONE MAN ROCK BAND, Heath Slater Elite action figure! Pros:- Bravo to Mattel for pairing one of the most unpopular and dangerous selections for the Elite lineup this year with one of the most-wanted items ever in their WWE line: the Money in the Bank ladder! That oughta sell otherwise unsellable Heath Slater figures!
- The MITB Ladder itself is very nice, with a gigantic 10" height and authentic silvery-grey color scheme. It's large, it's sturdy, and it can be folded up and used as a weapon. What's not to love?
- As an Elite WWE figure, Heath Slater is majorly poseable. He has the ball-jointed shoulders standard to all Mattel WWE figures, along with the Elite-only ball-jointed hips. This articulation scheme is aging, but is still more than good enough for Heath Slater to bust out all of his best moves (whatever they are).
- The deco on WWE Elite 16 Heath Slater is absolutely outstanding. From the bands on his thumbs to the flaming guitars on his tights and studs on his boots, Slater looks incredible. I'm not always pleased with Mattel's paint, but it's beautiful here.
- Sometimes Mattel will miss a tattoo or two, but both of Heath Slater's shoulder tattoos are authentically included on this figure, as they should be.
Cons:- Lack of ball-jointed upper torso irritates me. I've always found the upper torso ab crunch joint to be really ugly and distracting on figures not wearing shirts, and I hope Mattel evolves beyond that joint soon.
- The red hair on this figure is a shade too light--it just doesn't quite give the right feel of Heath Slater.
- Despite his weaknesses as a competitor (and a personality), One Man Rock Band has a fairly charismatic personality and can make some great facial expressions, so it's a monumental letdown that this figure's face is so bored looking. It just doesn't seem like an appropriate choice for the OMRB at all.
Overall: I'm so excited about the Money in the Bank Ladder that it was seriously tempting to give this figure an 'A' based solely on its inclusion, but I need to consider the Heath Slater figure as well. While the One Man Rock Band is looking good attire-wise, his head sculpt is really uninspired and downright "meh"-worthy. In addition, I don't think his hair is the right shade, and the ab crunch joint still bothers me. Even so, the MITB Ladder makes WWE Elite Series 16 Heath Slater a total must-buy, and the strong value of including both the huge ladder and a figure for the regular price of an Elite figure earns this figure a strong recommendation.GRADE: B+

My only issue with this figure is the Hair, it looks like a girls hair cut. I always thought his hair was always long in the back, like his Battlepack with Christian. his Basic figure looks more like him then this figure. I might do a head switch, other then that, this figure rocks

I find the review slightly insulting as Heath Slater is far from "boring," or "a weak competitor." Slater is very charismatic and in the ring, does an excellent job at getting heat with the fans, and has a very catchy gimmick going for him right now. His attitude totally completes who he is. Heath Slater can wrestle with the best of them and make any match he has look good. Look at how many legends chose to get in the ring with Slater over the months to lead up to that Raw 1000 episode. I can respect your opinion toward the superstar but it's just that. Your Opinion. Its a nicely written review on the set but just saying, it's a little biased as far as your thoughts on hating Slater goes.

I did a head switch on mine with the long haired battle packs version, as he has the longer hair and goofy grin. This Elite head would be better used for an Owen Hart custom.

Even so, Slater is a complete joke in the company and one of the absolute biggest jobbers on the roster. And as far as I've seen on many wrestling forums, people tend to hate Heath Slater. A lot. I can't speak very highly of his wrestling abilities, because he spends 90% of his in-ring time getting beat up like a chump. I like OMRB enough, or I wouldn't have bought the figure.

Nice review. I have the figure, and love it. My only problem is the hair. I feel like it's almost too short, or something. Something definitely seems off about the hair, in my opinion.

Mattel really can't get that brown hair color right at all.Reminds me of when they turned HBK into a ginger in DM.

Thanks for the review! However, I happen to find Slater one of the few bright spots on WWE tv right now, so I strongly disagree with your personal assessment of him. Mattel knocked his attire outta the park and it looks totally awesome! My only issue with this figure is the Hair, it looks like a girls hair cut. I always thought his hair was always long in the back, like his Battlepack with Christian. his Basic figure looks more like him then this figure. I might do a head switch, other then that, this figure rocks I completely agree. Here is how the head swap and added elbow pads look on elite 16

Nice review. Do you have he tall jakks ladder. I have to see a review of the two ladders being compared. I would like to see a review of the Figure's headscan being compared to a picture of the Wendy's girl , to see what type of resemblance they share.

I think the figure is amazing and looks just like him. So I'll give Mattel that, but as far as my personal opinion goes on Slater the performer I find him to be very bland even as a jobber in the WWE. To me Slater/Hornswaggle/Santino are nothing more than poor attempts at comic relief in the PG WWE, but least Santino is entertaining unlike the other two. The only good thing I can say is now that the 1000 episode is over and the Legends aren't crushing him on a weekly basis when I do actually watch RAW or SD I can now go back to flipping channels when Slater or Hornswaggle come on. I find that jobbers today aren't nearly as entertaining as the jobbers of the 80's. Were are the Barry O's, Barry Horowitz's, SD Jones, Iron Mike Sharp's, Steve Lombardi's, Rick McGraw's of today?
