I have a question:
What has Bret Hart contributed to the history of WWE?
I ask this because I have to do a project for school. The project is on any Canadian in the 1900's and I decided to do Bret Hart.

Well, maybe I can help ya out with this.
Bret Hart made us Canadian's proud to like wrestling. In the WWE in the 80s and 90s, it was mostly a American based group. From Sarasota Florida, to Venice Beach California, you kept hearing all these American cities and towns where these guys came from.
But then you heard "Calgary, Alberta CANADA" for Bret Hart, and you would say "Hey!! I am from Canada, and Bret's from Canada too, that's pretty cool!!"
So as a Canadian fan, you become an instant fan of his.
He is what Wayne Gretzky was for the NHL.
Yes, Bret has held many titles, and won many events from King of the Ring (twice!) to the Royal Rumble, but for us Canadian fans, it was just a lot more special to see it happen.
Seeing Bret Hart make it in the world of sports entertainment and knowing he was from Canada, made a lot of Canadian's try to live out their dream of being a wrestler too.
So what did Bret Hart contribute to WWE History you ask??
Simple. He made a lot of Canadian's believe they can do what he did too.

You can also say he helped mold Austin and help the character ascend to the main event. Bret really seemed to like Austin and wanted to help him get over.

to add....He truly was the excellence of execution. Everyone of his moves was delivered perfectly. Go watch Flair or Hogan from the 80's or 90's and then watch a Hitman match. You'll get what I'm saying. This helped his matches look more real than some of the other wrestlers.

I think it's also worth noting that he opened the door for "smaller guys" to be a top draw. Shawn Michaels wouldn't have gotten the chance to be Shawn Michaels if it wasn't for Bret, and that's coming from a guy whose favorite wrestler ever is Shawn Michaels and doesn't really care for Bret too much. You could link this to todays champions and guys like Jeff Hardy, CM Punk, and Eddie Guerrero on how they were able to make money for WWE, where in the past they would have never been given the opportunity because they didn't fit "the mold."
You also probably want to mention the impact he has had on future generations of the business in direct link to Canada. His family influenced the careers of a lot of guys, Lance Storm, Chris Jericho, Benoit, and Bret served as an inspiration for those type of guys to go for their dreams.
Maybe get into the history of Stampede Wrestling some but mostly I would explain that Bret Hart really put WWE on the map for Canadian fans. You can list his countless accomplishments, but those are kayfabe. I would focus on how he has resonated with the people of Canada. Maybe find quotes from fans on what Bret really means to them?
Sounds like a cool project and good luck with everything.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned how much he helped expand the WWE's global presence. WWE was not the international monster it is now before they put Bret on top.
He did pretty well in the states all things considered, but he was a mega draw almost everywhere overseas. Germany, Canada, you name it!
