Hey guys, well I havent had much time to play with my figures, but decided to have a mini sort of classic NWA Jim Crockett Tag Team Memorial Cup Tournament - with my own few tweeks to make it that much more exciting.
Here are the teams & which figures I used:
Road Warriors: CS6 Hawk/Animal
Warriors of the rising Sun: Ultimo Dragon/Antonio Inoki (an old batista in the IE yokozuna robe)
Midnight Express w/ Jim Cornette: CSTT midnight express & BCA Cornette
Texas Connection: CS11 Windham & CS5 Terry Funk
Dream Team: CS11 Dusty & CS15 Lex Luger
Four Horsemen w/ JJ Dillon: CS9 Ric & CS12 Arn with a CS6 Bobby Heenan wearing glasses.
Hard Time: Big Bubba Rogers (TTL Bossman) & Don Kermodle (CS4 Duggan)
Past & Present: CS11 Rick Steiner & CS12 Dean Malenko (as his father Boris in this case) - NOTE: Rick was seen as young rookie taken under the tutelage of Boris Malenko.
Commentary Team: Jim Ross & Gordon Solie
Quarter Finals:
Road Warriors vs. Warriors Of The Rising Sun:
A fast paced match, animal & hawk's power was matched by the speed and agility of ultimo dragon and the technical prowess of antonio inoki. Match came to an end when Inoki missed a dropkick and hawk bulldogged him to the mat. Hawk made the crucial tag to animal who cleaned house and threw ultimo out the ring.
The doomsday device on a prone inoki sealed the win for the road warriors.
Texas Connection vs. Midnight Express (NWA Tag Champs)
The midnight express definitely had their work cutout with the tough terry funk and barry windham. Funk for the most part was on the receiving end of bobby eaton and stan lane's quick tags. In typical heel fashion one member would distract the ref while the other would pound away on funk in the corner.
Finally when, windham got the tag(after eaton missed an elbow off the top rope), all hell broke loose as he clothslined both eaton & lane one after the other.
Funk botched a suicide clothesline and stan lane pulled down the top rope sending funk crashing to the outside.
In the meantime, windham had eaton set up for a powerbomb, while lane had the ref distracted, cornette crept into the ring and delivered a painful low blow to windham. Eaton seized the oppurtunity and delivered a crushing piledriver to seal the win for the NWA tag champs - no thanks to the dastardly cunning jim cornette!
Arn Anderson/Ric Flair (NWA world champ) w/JJ Dillon vs. Rick Steiner/Boris Malenko
Throughout the match, steiner made a few rookie mistakes allowing quick tags between flair and anderson to wear him down. Flair continued with chop blocks to the right leg, causing steiner to limp and not be able to reach his corner.
Finally, steiner was able to throw flair off the top turnbuckle to the mat, allowing him to tag in malenko. Malenko cleaned house - even knocking anderson off the apron.
However, anderson took the oppurtunity to go round the ring and pull steiner off the apron and rammed him - leg first into the steel barricade.
He then threw the world title into the wrong, and JJ Dillon got on the apron to distract the ref. With clockwork timing, flair picked up the title and smacked malenko sqaure in the head with it - knocking him out cold.
Dillon got down off the apron and Flair applied the figure 4. The ref saw malenko out cold and awarded the win to the horsemen.
Dream Team vs. Hard Time:
A pretty decisive win - where luger and dusty dominated big bubba and Kermodle. Match finished with dusty and bubba brawling on the outside - while lex luger reversed a standing headlock from kermodle into the torturerack. Kermodle tapped out giving the dream team the win.
SEMI-FINALS:
Road Warriors vs. The Horsemen
Very tense match - Hawk & Animal exerted their physical prowess in this match and at one point had ric flair up for the doomsday device as arn anderson had been clotheslined out the ring. Conveniently, Dillon sent the ref out the ring to check on arn's condition. Hawk was poised on the top rope with flair on animal's shoulders WHEN STAN LANE of the midnight express, climbed onto the apron, and pushed Hawk off the top rope - causing him to collide violently with the steel barricade. Animal tried to grab Lane from inside the ring but Lane reversed, held animals head and jumped off the apron causing animal's head to bounce off the top rope.
Flair took advantage and rolled up animal from behind - Dillon grabbed the ref and threw him in the ring - the ref counted the 1-2-3 with flair holding animal's tights.
After the match EMTs took hawk out on a stretcher fearing a neck injury - animal was seething with anger.
Midnight Express vs. Dream Team:
A back and forth match - once again midnight express would swap quick tags to keep luger in the cornet. At times eaton would choke luger with the tag rope while the ref was distracted.
Luger got the tag to dusty when lane had his suplex reversed. Dusty cleaned house with bionic elbows to both eaton & lane. Cornette got on the apron and was also given a bionic elbow by dusty. Dusty tagged in luger, on his way out, Dusty kicked eaton out the ring and brawled with him - causing the ref to come out to break it up.
Luger sent lane into the ropes - out of nowhere - Animal appeared and cracked Lane in the back with a steel chair while he was bouncing off the rope. Lane stumbled straight into a powerbomb from luger who then got the 1-2-3 when the ref was sent back into the ring by Dusty. Solie and Jim Ross then mocked Cornette who was crying on the outside when he realised his team were knocked out the million dollar competition.
THE GRAND FINAL:
Dream Team vs. The Horsemen
All 4 men in the ring stared each other down in anticipation. A very tense match with Arn anderson working over Dusty's surgically repaired shoulder which the horsemen were to blame for. Flair then took over the offense - Dusty somehow backdroped flair from an attempted piledriver and made the tag to luger.
Luger stepped in and cleared house on the 2 horsemen, however flair was able to get a low blow out the ref's view and took over once again. he locked in the figure 4 but Luger was able to get to the rope just in time. Anderson was tagged in who also got his huge spinebuster on luger - dusty luckily made the save and broke up the pin. Anderson's headlock was countered into a belly to back suplex by luger who made the tag to dusty.
Luger was obviously hurt and had to take a breather on the outside.
Dusty whipped anderson into the opposite turnbuckle for a hug splash. The cunning anderson then threw the referee in his position - causing dusty to splash the ref. Dillon quickly handed the world title to flair who ran across and nailed luger with it.
Anderson gave dusty a spinebuster and then held him for flair to nail him with the title. Dusty ducked and flair nocked anderson to the outside with a hard blow of the title.
Dusty gave repeated bionic elbows and sent flair out. Luger threw anderson into the ring and then levelled JJ Dillon with a forearm on the outside.
Dusty got on the top rope waiting for anderson to get up - hitting a massive bionic elbow. Luger revived the ref who counted the 1-2-3. Flair tried to run in but was knocked off the apron by luger.
