Hi guys, not sure if anyone has picked up the Destination X 2012 DVD yet but it comes with a bonus disc that has a featurette called "Rising Superstars" on it. It starts out talking to Kenny King and then Daniels and Kaz about what it takes to break through and get better but then it really becomes more of a documentary style interview with Austin Aries.
The reason I wanted to make a thread about this was because when they interviewed Aries, he came out and said he quietly retired from wrestling and was looking at going to vegetarian culinary school. Apparently, he felt like he had hit a plateau in his career and he wasn't getting the bookings and pay days he thought he deserved and he was going to move on. Then, 4 days into his "retirement," TNA called him and asked him to come do the D-X tournament last year. And I think we know how the rest of the story has gone.
I just think it's pretty incredible that this guy went from essentially calling it quits, to taking one booking, "one more payday," and turning it into what he has become over the last year plus. I can't even begin to imagine what TNA would have been without Austin Aries and his rise to the top. I think Aries and Bobby Roode have unequivocally been the two most important guys in TNA over the last year and I shutter to think where TNA would be without everything falling into place with those two guys.
For me, Austin Aries' 2009/2010 run with ROH was the most entertaining he had ever been. He was always good in the ring but I think his character really came around when he switched to "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived!" gimmick and it's been nothing but awesome since that point on. He really came into TNA with a chip on his shoulder because he thought he belonged at the top. I tend to agree and think he is the best total package performer in pro wrestling right now, and his moment at D-X 2012 was a top 5 moment in TNA history imo.
I just didn't know he had intentions to quit wrestling and I'm just thankful he didn't and that everything has worked out. Thoughts on this?

They usually have them from like 10-50% off at any given time. I got Destination X for 15% off and then Sacrifice for 50%, so Sacrifice was only $10. If you order $40 worth of stuff at a time they don't charge for shipping, just a handling fee of like $3. The one FYE that is still open by me still gets some new TNA DVDs too.

This was the special that was put together for the pre show PPV. It was excellently done and really provided insight on Aries and his rise from Destination X last year to this year.
I knew about his retirement. He had mentioned this in some of the youtube videos he had done. I didnt know that he was going to goto a culinary school though.

He mentioned it in a few shoots a few years back. I still cannot understand why ROH released him a few years back. Pay cuts my ass.

I've been a huge fan of Aries ever since he first debuted in TNA. I'm glad he gave it one more shot before calling it quits. I'm making a video tribute of him probably my best vid yet. I'm pretty good actually after that. I'm making one of Amazing Red since I told him I was going to make him one since I didn't like the old vid of him that someone made years ago.

He mentioned it in a few shoots a few years back. I still cannot understand why ROH released him a few years back. Pay cuts my ass. I have no idea if this is true or not, but I would say Jim Cornette had to have had a hand in that with his change in direction for the product. Aries has since publicly criticized Cornette too. I personally think ROH got real sh*tty, real fast. Tyler Black, A Double and Kevin Steen were all gone by the fall of 2010. Steen would eventually come back but when they lost that HDNet deal it looked like the ship was sinking. I think money played a big part of it though, as Aries had reached the top level of ROH and he had to be one of the highest paid guys in the promotion. Steen wasn't renewed for seemingly the same reason. I don't really care. I think Smokey Mountain of Honor is pretty bad now, and even with the guys that they do have like Cole, O'Reilly, Steen and Edwards, I see them following suit with the likes of Aries, King, Black, Bryan, etc. if the opportunity presents itself. I think Cornette's a moron though so that may be the foundation from where I form my thought process. If WWE is the Yankees, and TNA is the Oakland A's then ROH and PWG will always be the AA and AAA farm systems. Just how it's been for the last several years. The don't make enough money to keep top talent like Aries.

Honestly, I blame WWE for his retirement. They said that he wasn't good enough to even get onto Tough Enough...
Another reason why we should all love this new TNA. The old TNA (Ran by Russo's booking) destroyed careers. But now they are taking guys (Bully Ray is another.) and making them heroes - World Champions.

To be fair, it was actually the network that rejected him, not WWE.

Do I even have to bother?
*insert bad pun about his entrance cape's truthfulness*
Austin Aries! *clap clap, clap clap clap!*
Proud to have watched defend the X-Division title in person.

The talent company didn't know a lot about wrestling from what I heard. I'm still perplexed that Luke or Matt didn't win tbh.

Appearently they heard that he trashed the WWE`s product online wanted to punish him for it. If there is any truth to that, it`s totally their loss.
