I loved the black and white. I thought it was an awesome use of storytelling that gave a nod to the comics as well. That look between Morgan and Rick after Carter got got, priceless. It's interesting that Morgan and Rick have become Rick and Shane from Season 2. The show constantly needs a moral compass. Strange to me that the moral compass we have now knows how bad the world is but still refuses to play by all those rules, at least to the full extent. It's boyscouty but not in that totally naive way that you think is going to get him killed. I'm interested to see if Jessie grows into what Andrea is in the comics now. Seems extremely likely to me. They nailed Heath. Perfect casting. I don't think the horn was the Wolves. I get that one of the exiled members of Alexandria could seemingly be leading that group and want to see them eliminated completely but I feel like this is going to be one of the teenagers, Jessie's son or Carl's little girlfriend. Maybe it's something coincidental altogether. I feel like the Wolves are a red herring at this point that will be addressed later in the season. It seems too soon to jump into that whole deal. I think vengeance is one thing but in a post apocalyptic world where resources are at a premium, you don't want to make a town and their food and guns untouchable, especially when said town doesn't really know you exist. Comic spoilers: I think it was the Wolves blaring the horn. Since the encounter with the Wolves (or their equivalent) is what leads the herd to Alexandria, I'm going to assume this is their way of doing that in the TV show. I didn't consider Jessie growing into comic Andrea, I think that would be an interesting ways to handle things. And the show is really going to need that soon. Overall I thought the premiere was good. I had a few problems with it but nothing major. It was nice to see a bunch of different characters get some focus.

Not a bad premiere, at first I didn't like the black and white flashback scenes, but it grew on me as the episode progressed. Next week looks like the herd getting into Alexandria, likely led there by the wolves. It should be interesting to see how the people still in there handle this attack, considering Rick and the others who went out wouldn't have returned yet.
Side note for this board, with the second half to the season starting February 14th, as confirmed on Talking Dead, this means the season finale will air the same night as WrestleMania yet again.

Good premier.
Some parts of the black and white scenes were alright but I felt like it distracted me too. They lost some detail at times because of it.
I had forgotten about Judith. Took me a minute to figure out whose baby Rick was holding.
Heath was pot on.
Kind of got a vibe that Tara and Eugene might hook up but then remembered Tara was a lesbian. So maybe just really good friends.

I hope she sticks around. Of course, this show has a knack for prematurely killing off characters that are of any interest so I'm not holding my breath.

Awesome episode, I liked the black and white actually. My only question is... WHERE'S CARL? I thought it was odd that Carl wasn't shown

Awesome episode, I liked the black and white actually. My only question is... WHERE'S CARL? The only Carl sighting was at the very beginning, he climbed onto the roof of the weapons shack and was holding hands with that girl. Carl-less episodes are my favorite. Good episode this week. I really like how they're writing a sane Morgan. Next episode is going to be very heavy Carl, which I'm not looking forward to. In all honestly the only three people in the homestead that can protect those who were left behind, which means it will be heavy on Carl, Carol and Maggie (and Tara but they're still playing off her being not quite as useful as she should be at least to me), with it looking like Carl is actually going to lead the group. Carol/Maggie heavy makes next week interesting to me, hate Carl and if he is leading the group then whatever. This week is going to have to be a coming out party for Deanna and Father Damien. Despite the comics, if ever there were an episode for Deanna to show she's Rick's equal as a moral leader (compared to Rick's soldier like leadership) it's this. Also, Damien seems to have turned pro-Rick this episode so...let's see what he can do. And like I said about Tara, I think her and Eugene are due a coming out party themselves. They made Tara a lesbian, so likely no relationship but I can see them becoming a duo. Should be a fun episode.

I think Carl is going to eventually become a very important character, maybe even this season.
I hated him at first. He was dumb and annoying but he was just a kid too. He's grown up fast in this world and learned a lot since the beginning. I've kind of grown to like him.
On the other hand, I can't stand Daryl anymore.

Daryl's just straight broken down since the death of Beth. He took Merle's death hard, but his disagreeing attitude with Rick/his general not caring just kind of attitude has been a constant since her death. It's fair to say he's character wise taken it harder than even Maggie. The guy loved her. Never really said if it was like a sister, or more, but the moonshine in the cabin episode before she was kidnapped kind of hinted it may have been the latter. And unless they're killing him off, they've gotta get him out of this funk and into some kind of story.

More like bored with him him. I liked that stuff with Daryl. It showed he had feelings and a soft side under his tough exterior. It just seems like for too long now, since Beth died, he's just there and not doing anything. I think it's because there are so many characters on the show now and he's just taking a backseat to everyone else. I hope he gets to do something cool soon. His appeal, to me at least, was that he was so skilled as a survivor and it was fun seeing him do all the things he did. Rick, Maggie, Glenn, Morgan and some new characters have all been good but Daryl isn't up there at the top like he used to be. There's gotta be something good coming with him soon. I can't see his character being like this all season.

I can't see his character being like this all season. I really think they've played the Daryl character out to its full extent. He was a survivor, grew to respect the man who abandoned his brother, came to terms with the death of his brother and is obviously still grieving for Beth, whatever she was. I think Daryl's best storyline option, to me, would be ultimately killing him off to force Rick to come back down to earth because he's slowly turning into the monster Shane had become...and the only people that could conceivably bring Rick back to earth without breaking him entirely with their death (of the super major, important main credits characters) would be Daryl, Glenn or Michonne, and they're not axing Glenn or Michonne. They both have stories. It just screams this is how they're phasing Daryl out so his death doesn't absolutely break the Dead fandom more than it would regardless.
