I don't really post my own threads but this one has really started to impact me.
About a year ago (I think it was in November, so not really a year..) I started feeling really crapty and I thought quite alot about death and dying (Not suicide, just the thought that one day we wont be here). For example I started to think about not so much about me myself going, but others around me, family and friends. It got me down, I'm feeling the same way now, As much as I try to take my mind off it. Theres always a thought in my mind, what's the point in anything? Has anyone else experienced feelings like this? Any way I can cheer myself up? It normally goes around early January.

Yeah I used too all the time. I think your just bored with your life. I think that you should think about good things in your life. Maybe try a new hobby or try doing something awesome/crazy you never thought you would do.

im at the same point bro.
the thought crossed my mind that no matter what, some day its all gonna end. whether that be my mortal existence or the life of the planet.
my mom unexpectedly passed away almost two years ago and ever since then life hasnt been what it used to be. i am plagued by the thoughts of DEATH, DYING, and nonexistence. there are little patches of time, my mind is able to wander away from it, but i suffer from clinical depression anyways, so i guess thats just how im gonna be. all you gotta worry about is just keeping your mind completely occupied. you cant just sit around and think about stuff, your only gonna drive yourself mad that way. you need to be around people or playing video games or writing stories or doodling.
thats kinda why i got back into figure collecting. my therapist said that sometimes i need to push society and others away and just do things that i enjoy doing. two or three times a week i will shut off my phone, and either sit down and play my guitar or watch old wrestling videos, or bust out my figs and play out a show..
the fact of the matter is simply this. life sucks. no matter what way you cut it, many aspects of life suck. people suck. YOU are the only one that can justify your existence. YOU are the only one that can turn a bad day into a good day, life is what YOU make it.

Have you looked into Seasonal Affective Disorder? I've known people who get noticeably down during certain times of the year.

I appreciate all the responses guys, I dont really go out anymore as the people i used to hang out with have just stopped coming out.

Sorry to hear that you are having a tough time man. I kind of understand what you are going through. For the past couple of months I've been dealing with constantly feeling anxious like I'm waiting on something bad to happen. I also think about dying and such. It's no fun. I wish it on no one.

I went through the same exact thing. It's really bad depression, if it doesn't go away or you aren't able to fix it yourself, I highly suggest seeing a therapist and/or a psychiatrist. I'm not trying to be cute or funny, I'm being serious. Like I said, I went through the same thing and it became a serious issue so I had to seek professional help. I still get depressed here and there, but it's a lot better than it used to be.

I'm sorry to hear that. I sometimes get a bit depressed and stressed out around the holidays. I tend to get over it really quickly though. All I can say is hang in there

In my opinion, there is no point or meaning to life. That's what makes it so great - You can literally do anything you want (while you will have to suffer the consequences), and you should just try to be happy.

I get this, the weird thing is I got it right before a family friend died in January last year.
I havent had it as bad as that since but if I think about anything to do with death in a serious way then I really spook myself.
I havent really got any suggestions to get over it, it will pass is all I can say. Just ease back a bit in life, laugh at crap jokes, think about yourself as a better you in your head. Nostalgia it up, I found watching old dvds of things from my childhood always cheers me up cos it reminds me of when I was just happy in life and had nothing to worry about at all.

I think everyone experiences thoughts about their own mortality, and the mortality of others, especially your loved ones. It's something that can really eat away your thoughts. I, like yourself went through a period of time where my mind was occupied quite a bit by thoughts similar to those that you are having. However, you need to realize that your mortality, and especially others mortality is beyond your control. If you sit there and worry, or try to prepare for life's events, you're just wasting your time. Live in the moment, enjoy life for what it is, and then worry about it when that unfortunate time rolls around.

Judging by the responses here, and conversations I've had with many of my friends, I think it's actually pretty typical.
I've always been of the mindset that nearly everyone suffers from some varying degree of depression at one or many points in their lives. It's just a matter of how much you let it effect your day to day life.
I know that I have some sort of depression. I think a lot of it has to do with over thinking, which I do constantly.
That and the fact that I'm really in a "transition" phase of my life - graduated from college and looking for a full time "career".

I don't know if I am qualified to be judging considering I am not a doctor, but it seems like these thoughts are common. It sounds like you have depression and might want to get it looked at try to treat it. Why dont you make an appointment with your family doctor and see if he can refer you to a psychologist and a psychiatrist? It might help wonders. I hope it all works out for you, bro! Everyday is a blessed one!
