Living in Australia, all we ever get annually is a series of house shows mid year. Apparently they are better than US ones but they still dont compare to a live taping so when I had the chance to attend whilst over here, I took it ASAP. I have to thank We Have Mattel for getting the tickets and letting me know about the shows, had a great time.
Theres way too many photos to put here so I put them in the above album for you all to check out.
On Monday I attended Raw, the atmosphere was incredible! The dark match was Xavier Woods who was that american gimmick guy from TNA against McGillicutty which was a good warm up. The atmosphere and experience in the arena was so awesome though when they went to go live. Just seeing how they piece together a show and transition from one thing to the next is a fantastic thing to see. The arena always suprisingly looks small as does the HD set but seeing it in person, its nothing short of impressive. I have a whole new appreciation for the HD set because in person it looks brilliant and makes the place come alive. It was such an awesome surprise that of all the shows, the one I happenned to go to Vince would show up and also have a match. One of the other things I really wanted to see was Kanes in ring pyro as its never done at house shows back home, it too was certainly impressive. Could feel the heat for sure.
This was also the night punk debuted his new gear and of course, when 'that' incident occurred. Punk was getting shoved pretty badly and was clearly being distracted from the segment. The crowd was getting a bit of hand. There was no security on that level though, they were all at the base and top of the elevation staircases so there really needed to be proper security in the right places. Most seeme to think the glasses guy was at fault especially because after the segment finished he got ejected however as everyone now knows, it was not this guys fault. It was a bad situation all round. Looked quie bad in person, punk belted the poor guy.
Anyway, I must say, the 3hrs went fast, I had the greatest time at Raw though. One things for sure, house shows will never be the same.
The next night, I headed to the SD taping again with We Have Mattel and what a blockbuster it was! In about 3.5hrs we saw a grand total of 11 matches and still a good mix of talking segments and video packages, this was value for money for sure! It started with the taping of Superstars which was followed by main event which was actually a great program the way they hype the main match up on it and use the show to develop stories further. This was then followed by Saturday Morning Slam and then SD which itself alone was taped over 1.5hrs. It was quite bizarre seeing some people twice, changing their gear and of course refering to past tense and such including Del Rio saying orton wasnt there 'tonight' when he taped Main Event an hr ago haha. You get an appreciation of goo the WWE crew is too changing over graphics, announcer table covers, etc 4 times and also using a tonne of pyro even for show intros.
One of the awesome surprises too was that when arriving at the arena, we went to the merch stand only to see people were lining up to the side of it and long and behold we see Ryder was signing autographs and taking photos with everyone which was a great thing for them to do before the show!
Overall, I had an AWESOME time and wish I could do it all again. Seeing a WWE taping is so much fun especially raw because it is just so unpredictable. Who knows, maybe one day they will bring a taping to Australia? One can only hope.
