I thought it was by far his best era. He could actually cut promos and his gimmick wasn't silly. I love the skill of undertaker but I always hated the deadman gimmick. Especially once the attitude era started and now. This pretty much nails it. He just can't do as much as a lifeless zombie and even in the 98/99 era he still had the goofy "supernatural powers"

Its not so much that I think it was "bad" but it just wasnt as good as everything else. Look at it like Pizza. Original Deadman- Meat Lovers w/ Extra Cheese Ministry Deadman- Sausage Purple Deadman- Pepperoni ABA Undertaker- Cheese Pizza w/light sauce Do you not relize that using pizza did nothing because people like different pizza than you? I hate meat on my pizza. Obviously the analogy went completely over your head then.

1998 Undertaker and 2002 Undertaker are still tied as my favorite Deadman years.
I don't see why it gets flack, personally.

It sucked and he looked ridiculous especially being called The Undertaker and in my opinion he debut in 1990 and left in 1999 only to return in 2004. The man that called himself The Undertaker from 2000/2003 was an imposter in my opinion.

ABA was fun, I think it could of had a better mix with the Undertaker gimmick itself, but other than that I think he was just awesome then! Along with Kane.

Thank God it only lasted for 3 years and I would rather The Undertaker to retire than to have to sit through all that biker rubbish again.
It sure was a low point for Takers carreer.

I liked ABA Taker...it was pretty cool seeing the slow transition from Ministry to ABA which started to take place before he left in late-1999. He was wearing the bandana and sunglasses but still in the Ministry persona.
Here is a vid i found from 1999...pretty bad ass look for Taker:

See. After WCW died, that's when I first started watching WWE. So I kinda grew up with ABA Taker, and I think it was his best time of his career too. He had some amazing matches. Ladder vs. Jeff Hardy his feud with Brock Lesnar vs Angle vs Rock Hell, even his matches against Cena I'm not saying that his older matches and or his newer matches are bad, Cause from 2002 on with the exception of like his Khali fued, his Mania 20 match with Kane and a few others. Taker is, in the words of J.R in SD vs Raw 2007 "Like a fine wine. He only gets better with time."

His entrance at Judgement Day 2000 during the iron man match between triple H and the Rock to make the save was epic!

I disliked it, simply because it didn't make sense to me. In '99 he was this Lucifer/Satanic guy that was going around sacrificing people, and scaring the sh*t out of everyone. Then he leaves, and comes back as ing Ghostrider.

One of my favorite ABA Taker moments...

00 and 01 were grabage. 02 and 03 on the other hand were phenomenal. Basically this. 2000 -2001 he had some good matches but the gimmick went nowhere. It was the worst time to debt the gimmick. With Rock, SCSA, Angle and HHH this was a terrible time for it. 2002-2003 though was epic. I still wish it had lasted a little longer.

Then he leaves, and comes back as ing Ghostrider. Yeah but the that transition was happening regardless. His last appearance before leaving. if he stuck around we would have seen it happen before out eyes and if you think about the transition was happening for years, I mean his ministry stuff was more gothic than anything, a lot less supernatural than his formative years. The American Badass was crucial to evolution of the Undertaker. He got better in the ring by 2002-03 onward was having great matches. Most importantly it made him human, and why is this important? So he could die and once again be The Undertaker a perfect circle.

All the males are bikers in my family, myself included, so Undertaker's biker years were very entertaining for me! As stated, the transition was happening anyway, and would have evolved right in front of our eyes. When he returned to the Deadman gimmick, I would have preferred it to be a hybrid of the Deadman and the biker - every Wrestlemania I sit there before his match hoping he'll ride one of his bikes to the ring, I'd love that!

I just love Taker's whole career in general, but I'm biased because he is my favorite. While I do prefer his deadman gimmick, the man is all about evolving. His time being the American Badass was fantastic and it really showed off his skills on the mic.

Shame we'll likely never see him dawn the ABA persona again before he retires. It's always been my favorite part of his career. This is how I feel too. Definitely a bigger fan of ABA taker.

Ugh. I just didn't like it. The motorcycle and whole American Bad Ass thing just came off as lame to me. Completely agree. Also got to disagree with the original poster. I think Internet fans generally love ABA not hate it
