What a mess.
Last week I purchased The Amazing Spider-Man combo pack for the obvious reason of digital copy.. I was COMPLETELY unaware that Ultraviolet and digital copy are 2 very different things and that there is absolutely no way to add Ultraviolet to my iTunes collection..
I have Apple mobile devices, (iPhone, iPad) which is why I have an extensive movie library through iTunes (either Digital Copy or direct purchase). Apparently Ultraviolet has to play through something called "Flixster" which is an app I can download onto my phone. And that is the only way to play this Ultraviolet copy. I am not adapting to this.. I refuse to have 25 movies on my computer, all stored on iTunes, and 1 movie through Sony Home Entertainment/Flixster.
Anyways after 24 hours of e-mails and phone calls, I was told there is nothing they can do about it, I have to use the Flixster app and Ultraviolet will never be compatible with iTunes.
What a joke.. I can honestly say this is the first and last Ultraviolet Combo Pack I am purchasing.. Which sucks because The Dark Knight Rises digital copy will be Ultraviolet.. Such a hassle, such a headache..
Anyone else dealt with this nonsense?

You can also view UltraViolet movies through Vudu which is what I use. Not only does it let you stream in HD unlike Flixster but it's also widely available on a lot of the newer TV's, Blu-Ray players and you can download the app on your iPhone/iPad.
Only problem with this is you need an internet connection to watch them unlike iTunes movies where they download to your HD. I have about 105 movies on my external HD that I've gotten through iTunes and about 45-50 UltraViolet copies on Vudu.

Nope. I said the same thing when I realized this. So dumb.

But the iOS Vudu app is SD only. However the HDX Vudu format on Roku/PS3 is very near Blu-Ray quality.

I prefer it. Why use space on my phone etc when I stream movies anyways?

I don't get the whole point of these DVD/BluRay/UltraViolet/Digital versions of films, If i buy a film I just want ONE copy of it, i don't need 4 copies of the same film, free or not.

I dont use or care for those versions of the movie. I understand other's use and the convenience of it though. But dont make an entire disc out of it. Thats just annoying to me.

My Apple products and not always around wi-fi so streaming high quality movies to my phone or iPad is not something I'm interested in.. Especially if I was on a road trip or in an airplane.

I buy bluray and just give away the dvd copies to friends if they want them so they don't have to buy the movie. Gets rid of it and helps someone out.

Yes, Vudu is the way to go, it used to be all my flixster movies would carry over to Vudu but Blade Runner and Watchmen didn't link to Vudu which is kind of irritating.

I am absolutely not a fan of Ultra Violet. It's even more annoying that it feels like we were force-fed the technology.

The point is you can watch the movie wherever you're at. Blu-ray at home, digital or DVD (portable DVD players are a lot more popular than Blu-ray portables) on the go. It also appeals to the people that haven't upgraded to Blu-ray yet, but plan on doing so in the future. That way an individual can own the Blu-ray for when they get a BD player, but they're still able to enjoy the movie now using the DVD copy.

I share your sentiments a 1000 times over. I travel for work, so getting the digital copies to load to my iPad is really the only reason I want the digital copies. Until Wi-Fi is free on planes, I don't want anything to do with UltraViolet. I'm guessing Apple users have the biggest issue with it. Whenever I see UltraViolet on the package though, I always give a groan reaction. It may work well for some, but for me it's a giant waste of a "digital copy." Oh, and they expire too.

I completely agree with you. I don't do a ton of traveling, but some. Right now I'm doing physical therapy 3 times a week for a shoulder injury & at the end of my session I'm strapped up to a stimulant for 30 minutes. I have my digital copies on my iPod & it helps what would be an extremely boring process. I refuse to deal with the ultraviolet stuff. I found a program online that lets you transfer DVDs to iPods, so I'm thinking about buying that to create digital copies for anything I want. This can at least supplement the loss from the ultraviolet movies.

I never use iTunes or Apple products, so UltraViolet works fine for me. People keep forgetting to mention that you can download your movies via Flixster and save them to an HD. I did so on my Samsung tablet when I was messing around with the settings. Pretty sure it's just an SD version of the film, but still, that should eliminate all of the complaints about having to have an internet connection. I rarely watch any films via UV, but I like the technology versus Digital Copy, which forces you to use iTunes or Windows Media Player.
