Anyone that truly knows can answer or enlighten me. Since joining the board I understand how cases are packed now. But how does distribution work? Is it strictly what the retailer orders? Or once you commit, you get the sets when they are released. For example;
My WM's and Meijer's have been the best place to get current Elites in the last month. Both had plenty of E15, E16, and E17. With the exception of Nash whom I've never seen. I got mankind, ryder, yoko, diesel, punk, and cena all from WM and Meijer. ANd Ive seen heath, kofi, zeke, and sheamus countless times.
Now my Targets finally just got in E17 in the last week, without ever having E16. They are getting E16 at the same time Meijer, and prob soon to be WM, are getting E18 in.
The only Elites my TRU ever had is the BOPPV and 20-0 taker, which are TRU esclusives. They haven't had one E16 or E17. But if they follow suit with the rest of the co. they should be getting 18 this week.
Just seems odd that some of the retailers skip series'. And it cleary isn't because they are waiting to thin down inventory. They're selling, and theres some empty pegs sometimes.

A store (or a chain of stores) will put in an order or have a standing order for a series -- a standing order might vary in amount from month to month, as per the latest sales figures the store's buyer has. But then each chain's distribution from receiving the stock to sending it to individual stores might work a little differently. General rule of thumb will be a store orders more figures if they sell more figures, but there are more factors than that.
Demand might outstrip supply, or vice versa. I'm not sure what the timeframe is on the ordering, but as a theoretical example... Say Elite 15 didn't shift as quickly as stores hoped, the chain might slow down orders on elites but that change might not kick in until elite 17 or 18 because 16 would already be ordered by the time the individual stores knew that 15 wasn't selling.

makes sense. Thanks. I worked in retail, and as a buyer for awhile, but for a small business. This is a little different.

What I feel happens is the Warehouses, for say a target, get in cases of figures. If they get in fresh pallets they will prob sell what is in an older, already opened pallet. And as they ship out cases to stores they get in new pallets. And so, since figures arent perishables, they mix up the pallets. With Newer pallets being used before older pallets. And then you end up getting that "older" pallet in your store when Mattel already shipped out 2 new sets.

This places is bad because people are always finding cool new stuff, and most of the stores (around me at least) are very slow at getting this new stuff in stock. I still haven't seen all of Basic 22 and people are finding Basic 23 and 24. I still haven't seen all of Elite 16 and people are finding Elite 18.
So hearing all the great finds people are having makes the distribution feel even worse than it is - and it has consistently sucked for almost 3 years now.
