Long rumored, director Bryan Singer has now confirmed that the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past will mix cast members from his X-Men and X2 with those from Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. Taking to Twitter, Singer reports that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are set to reprise their roles as Magneto and Professor X with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy returning to play younger versions of the same characters.
Singer goes on say that Nicolas Hoult will be back as Beast and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.
The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that Hugh Jackman is in talks to reprise his role as Wolverine in director Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. Jackman would join a cast that has been confirmed to include James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.
Scheduled for release on July 18, 2014, X-Men: Days of Future Past boasts a script by Simon Kinberg and is said to be inspired Chris Claremont and John Byrne's comic book storyline that ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981. "Days of Future Past" introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.
In addition to playing a key role in the comic book version of the story, Wolverine has appeared in every live-action X-Men film to date and will star in his second solo adventure with the July 26 release The Wolverine.

This movie has potential to either be the best X-Men film ever made, or the worst.
I am VERY excited..

Nicolas Hoult was SO BAD in First Class. If he's seriously in it and Kelsey Grammer isn't then I don't think I could sit through it.

I've always thought the X-Men movies get more hate than they deserve.
X-Men: Pretty great movie, a solid start to the series. X-2: Superb. I loved it. The Last Stand: Ok, definitely the weak link, but still enjoyable and doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.
The only one that deserves the weakness is Origins: Wolverine. It had a pretty solid telling of Logan's story, but messed up on...well, everything else.
With my expectations set kind of low, I went to see First Class in theaters...and was blown away by how much I liked it. I was not expecting to enjoy it so much.
Putting the two franchises together sounds like it has promise. It's a very intriguing concept and, if executed well, can make a damn compelling movie. I'm all for this.

^ I agree with that to be honest. I actually enjoyed The Last Stand, and Ratner used storyboards that were taken directly from the pages of Astonishing X-Men. We got Angel, and a good representation of Kitty Pryde who is one of my favorite X characters, and Colossus was a part of the team which I loved. It was just kind of a terrible ending with everyone presumably dying.
Origins sucked ass though. I'm a fan of Taylor Kitsch and I would actually like to see him come back as Gambit, especially if they bridge the animated series with the comics and Gambit is a big player. Same goes for Reynolds, as I think he was born to play Deadpool, but what a disaster that entire movie turned out to be. I even think Schrieber was a good pick for Sabertooth in retrospect. So for me the casting was really pretty great, it was just a total miss on the script and is by far the worst film in the franchises history imo.
First Class has definitely been my favorite film but X2 is right there with it, as I still consider X2 to be the film that set the bar for ensemble superhero films. I saw X2 6 times in the theater. So when it came out it was amazing to me before the superhero genre really exploded.
I'm very excited for this and hope they confirm more people coming back, specifically Ellen Page. I'm also curious what they will do with the Rachel Summers casting. In theory, we should see all of Storm, Angel, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Pyro too. Not sure how much they will mix the actual two issues with the other incarnations of the story and/or animated series which would involve Forge, Bishop, and most importantly to me Gambit. Chris Claremont is the definitive X-Men scribe imo so I think this could end up being a perfect adaption if done well.
I have to say too, if we are going to get full blown Sentinels, I'd like for them to finally introduce Jubilee as an integral part of the cast. Maybe to the point where she replaces the Rachel Summers character and we see Gambit save her in the "future" timeline. Be very cool imo since she was so important to many of us who grew up with the animated series.

This could be incredible. Also, I agree I would love to see Kelsey Grammer back as Beast. He did great in that role.

I still hate X2 with a passion. Mostly because of how Nightcrawler was depicted.

I have enjoyed all the Xmen movies, makes me sad that Grammer isn't Beast though.

I thought Nightcrawler was the highlight of that movie, to be honest.

He might have been if they didn't use the most unbearable actor that ever lived to portray him.

I thought X2 was fantastic, but I haven't enjoyed a single X-Men movie since. I'm putting a lot of faith in this film's effort to put the series back on the right track.

Cumming was fine as Nightcrawler but he was a total dickhead not to reprise the role to be honest.

I wish Kelsey Grammer had been in it since X-Men 1, he was so good as Beast in X3 that it makes the film bearable to watch despite it's huge flaws.

I didn't know it was a full role. I always thought it was a cameo that he was offered, and he declined because he didn't think it was worth going through the makeup process for a cameo. I do know that Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) was offered the role of Gambit for X2 (cameo) and had to turn it down because of Lost, then again a full role for X3 but again turned it down because of Lost. With Lost wrapped up I hope they contact him to be Gambit again. I wonder if James Marsden will return?

Ian McKellen Comments!!!
Two days ago, director Bryan Singer let the world know that actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would be returning to the world of X-Men in the respective roles as Charles Xavier and Magneto for his upcoming film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Today, The Huffington Post caught up with McKellen to ask him about the return.
"What a gas!' said the actor. "I mean, Patrick Stewart and I have been have just been playing "Waiting for Godot" throughout England and in the West End of London. So, we've stayed in touch. We can't believe it [laughs]. I thought these were Fassbender and McAvoy's parts, but -- no, no -- we're back. We'll give them a run for their money. I mean, I haven't read the script, so I don't know how much we've got to do. But, to be back in that world, and for Bryan to be doing it -- with all the success he's had in the meantime -- it's wonderful. Wonderful."
Speaking of Michael Fassbender, what did McKellen think of him as Magneto in X-Men: First Class? "I thought he was exactly that: first class. Excellent... I thought he was better than me. But, we weren't quite playing the same character because he was so much younger than me."
