It's not that it's looking to compete at all. I'm a console guy, too. I don't play PC games at all. But apparently the PC gaming world is much bigger than I thought it was. I've been finding this out over the past year or so.

i'm aware of that, i'm only suggesting that it will now be marketed as a common living room pc and become popular to even non hardcore gamers, which that article says is now on it's way.

The thing that is most exciting out this is, if this thing does take off, and you are able to purchase games for the same prices as a regular pc gamers would pay for through the steam deals, this could cause other platforms to lower the prices of their games in order to compete. Not to mention, online gaming will be much better.

I am just playing devils advocate here because on the flip side this could give Valve an excuse to raise their console game prices under the excuse that they would lose money as for every game that Sony or Microsoft sells, they would have to sell twice as many games. And people will either eat it up as it is a Sony/Microsoft alternative or on the other hand people who are used to playing and buying games through Steam on the PC will realize how badly that the console consumers are being jipped and just remain on the PC. I mean if they keep the prices low then that would be cool and I am interested in the idea of a Steambox but I cannot help but feel that at some point they would jack up their prices and say they cannot compete with out the higher prices I would say and such. Haha.

And when they're not on sale, they're the same price as games on console. Not to mention that they wouldn't have to lower the base price on games to compete, they'd simply need to compete on crazy sales in the winter and summer.

I find better deals for PC games then I do on there console counter parts. Steam always has some kind of deal going.

This, except a lot of PC games still get the $49.99 price tag where console games get $59.99. Unless it's a big title like CoD, BF3, or Skyrim. Assassin's Creed 3 was released at $49.99, never understood this.

You can just purchase keys from other sources that sell them for cheaper in sale and activate the key on steam. I got Borderlands 2 for $25 in the first week. Edit: Just checked, Direct2Play is charging only $19 for a digital copy of Borderlands 2 now which you can activate on Steam and play. How much does it cost for PS3 and XBOX? $60. There's sites like this everywhere like Green man gaming, humble bundle, etc. All games you can activate on steam.
