This is something I've often wondered. They tend to do a little better on their Tuesday night specials. I can also speak for only myself, but I read the spoilers. If something sounds decent, I'll tune in. But I think I would more than likely watch it live to find out what happened. I would think lots of people read them as well.

Once you read the spoilers, you lose interest in watching the actual show. Hence, the low ratings.

Once you read the spoilers, you lose interest in watching the actual show. Hence, the low ratings. Its not the spoilers, its the show itself. Last nights Smackdown featured The Miz vs Heath Slater Great Khali, Hornswoggle & Natalya vs Primo, Epico & Rosa Mendes Wade Barrett vs Kofi Kingston again Tamina vs Layla Is anybody seriously interested in watching those matches whether the show is live or taped?

It would probably get slightly higher ratings, but nothing too major. The cards on Smackdown these days are not very strong compared to the way it was a few years ago.
If the Brand Split comes into stronger/full effect again, it might have the chance to be what it was before, but for now it's pretty different, and that's the main reason less and less people are watching.

Yes, espically when there is a championship on the line. Just like NYE RAW everyone knew about Barrett winning so it's was like why watch...

Not necessarily. It also has to do with the fact that SmackDown usually gets the bottom of the barrel in terms of wrestlers.
Like someone else pointed out, last SmackDown had 4 matches, 2 of which were jokes, 1 had a predictable ending, and 1 had another one of Teddy Long's fabulous tag fights between 4 main-eventers.
For SmackDown to be good again, it can't just be live, it also has to be clearly separated from Raw. The draft lottery needs to return, both shows need to be separate, and they need to even out the talent on both shows.
The Raw supershow was a terrible idea and 3 hour Raw was a terrible idea.

The problem is that it is on Friday night. Once you read the spoilers, you lose interest in watching the actual show. Hence, the low ratings. Its not the spoilers, its the show itself. Last nights Smackdown featured The Miz vs Heath Slater Great Khali, Hornswoggle & Natalya vs Primo, Epico & Rosa MendesWade Barrett vs Kofi Kingston again Tamina vs Layla Is anybody seriously interested in watching those matches whether the show is live or taped? Besides the 1 I put in bold, yes.

I think if Smackdown were live, the unpredictability of the show like others mention would raise the ratings up, but not by much. I know off topic, but when TNA went live, I thought the ratings would grow to like 1.4 like they did between October-December 2009, instead they're doing 1.0, 0.9, 0.8.

I think if SD was live on a weekly basis, it'd receive a bump in the ratings, but it'd start losing momentum again after a month or two.

Smackdown would have better ratings if it didn't suck.
Also, being taped and on Friday nights doesn't help either.

WWE just needs to go back to how things were when they first did the brand extension, Smackdown was usually the higher rated show up until the time that they switch Cena (WWE Champ to Raw) and Batista (World Champ to SD). I enjoyed the shows more when they were competing against each other.

SmackDown should be on the same level as Raw. Why purposely make one show better than the other? Having two great shows seems logical. A decade ago, both shows were amazing. I think it should be moved back to Thursdays because people are more likely to stay in that day than on Friday. It should also be live because I imagine spoilers ruin it for a lot of people. Hire better writers, too. The old men are out of touch.

It being taped is a big problem. Plus like everyone else said, if it were to go live, we need split rosters again. Hell, bring back the Cruiserweight Division. It'd help SmackDown stand out to RAW.
Maybe also send Punk to SmackDown to make it feel important.
