Not sure if this is a dumb question, but has WWE ever held an event in an arena as big or bigger (stadium or arena) than WM3? Are there bigger arenas? I've heard there are some huge stadiums in Japan too. Just curious because I'm watching the Legends of Wrestling Roundtable where they discuss open air shows and JR mentions an arena in the US that is under construction, but will be able to seat 100, 000 people and he claimed that WWE will likely hold a WM there after its completion. Thoughts?

The only stadium that I can think of this late offhand without Googling it is Cowboys Stadium down in Dallas. I do not know if WWE has held a WM there since it was finished a couple of years ago but I am sure that they have probably held some kind of event there at some point I would say and such. Haha.

Nay the WWE hasn't held an event as big or bigger than WM 3 but when the WWE holds Mania at Cowboy Stadium (and it will happen, I guarantee that) it will be the closest they can get.

The closest they got was Wrestlemania 23. 80.000 fans.
That was when they first started this Stadium craze and the closest theyve gotten since is WM28 with 78,000. Both mania's, im nearly positive, was not a sellout crowd.
If huge Mania matches like Shawn vs. Cena and Cena vs. Rock couldnt top WM3, I doubt any future Manias will.
The only thing I can imagine, is Austin wrestling at Wrestlemania in the Cowboys stadium. If those stars aligned, then they Might break 93,000.
Keep in mind since this stadium thing started WWE has even had to give tickets away the day of, in order to pack the joint. So theyre just barely filling these buildings.

To my knowledge, the stadium that could viably break that "record" (many have called its legitimacy into question over the years), would be Cowboy's stadium. Even then, they'd need to remove the seat dividers to shoot for "maximum" attendance. I would imagine the seats they lose due to the massive entrance could be made up with the risers and floor seats.
I'd be interested to know how legitimate the Wrestlemania 3 record is, though, and even more interested to see how many of those tickets were actually paid for. WWE comps a ton of tickets these days to raise attendance. I don't recall which it was, but I remember reading they comped nearly 10,000 tickets to a somewhat recent Wrestlemania.
They also notoriously make up the attendances at Wrestlemania. The actual numbers are often significantly lower than what they report live.

Vince said a few years ago that WM will be in domes and stadiums from now on. It was on the History of WM dvd. I think WM 21 at Staples Center was the last in a standard arena? He might not even return to MSG for that regular "every 10 year stop".
WM 3 was in the Pontiac Silverdome. What was it, 93,000? I think Summerslam 92 at Wembley Stadium in London has been the closest. Toronto Skydome is usually between 70,000 and 80,000.
They could do well over 100,000 in a college stadium, esp with floor seats. Ohio State and Michigan stadiums do 102,000 to 103,000 for football games.

Without the stage and junk they've been in similar arena/stadiums. Silverdome capacity is 80,000...of course that's not including floor seats where WWF made up a lot of their records. The Orange Bowl held 80,000 this past monday for the BCS Nat'l Championship game, without their stage, WWE could have filled that and easily been around their WM3 record. Of course, Orange Bowl is outdoors.
The old Wembley had a capacity of 82,000, which is more then the Silverdome. One would think if you had similar setups and packed both arenas that would mean Wembley would hold more....
Thus goes into something punksnotdead touched on. Its been highly highly rumored that the WM3 attendance was fabricated. Back then WWE was a private company and didnt need their gross earnings, records, attendances etc. They could have 5 people in the arena but could say they had 1000. Now, WWE is a public company (part of the NY Stock exchange obviously) so they have to report all of these earnings. Personally I believe the WM3 attendance was between 80,000 & 85,000 and in the same ball park as the 1992 SummerSlam attendance.
