Going into the holiday season it was tied with a little more than 70 million units shipped. Interesting it took Sony this long to get the lead. Lets hope whatever comes out next is backwards compatible so they can keep it.

If Xbox wasn't intellectually- disabled and didn't charge for their online then they probably would have stayed in the lead.

It has less to do with their online, and more to do with having a small mediocre exclusive list for 2012. They also have only ONE exclusive in 2013.

i'm not big on xbox, never have been, but while ps3 is more user friendly i don't think there is any denying xbox is the true gamer's console. and xbox's indie games are often fantastic.

Used to own both, but I owned the Xbox 360 longer than I did the PS3. Only reason I got a PS3 was one, my younger brother wanted to sell it and I got it cheap and two, for the exclusive games like the Uncharted series and Heavy Rain. Sold it last year when I didn't play it for awhile after completing Uncharted 3 and though there was no point in keeping a console I hardly touched. Plus, my older brother has one so when the new exclusives come out, I can play it on his after he is done with them.
Never been a "fanboy", just got the Xbox for Christmas years ago and stuck with it, if I got a PS3 first then I would of stuck with that.

Owner of both, and while I enjoy them both equally. I use the PS3 just for the exclusive games, and as a blu ray player. Everything else, I get on the Xbox. That being said, I think PS3 has the better exclusive games. I'd take Uncharted, Heavy Rain and God of War over Gears of War and Halo.

My roommates had an X360 first, but 2 red rings killed that & they bought a PS3. Playing that for a little bit made it an easy decision to buy a PS3. Free online & the blu ray was a major plus. Exclusive games don't ever bother me much. I'm a one dimensional gamer really only play sports games. Although I would have loved for Left 4 Dead to come out on PS3.

From what I understand more shipped consoles doesn't mean they've sold more it just means there's more PS3's in stores now than Xbox.
I got a second hand PS3 late last year but I rarely use it apart from a few exclusives and Blu Ray. Downloads and updates take forever which annoy me and communicating with friends is needlessly hard when compared to how simple and easy it is on Xbox with party chat and menus. It's an alright console for singleplayer games but will never take the place of my 360.

Probably because they fixed the RROD. So people aren't buying new a new xbox every couple years. Lol Because Sony's consoles have always been problem free. Also, Microsoft gave 360 owners an absurdly great warranty on RRODs. If someone bought a new console because one red-ringed, that was their own fault.

Originaly I only bought the PS3 for the exclusives titles but after a few month, I noticed I hadn't bought anything for the 360 and that I owned more games for the PS3. At that point I decided just to continue with the PS3 being my main console with the 360 being around solely because I bought a lot of stuff from XBLA.
