gday gents Just wondering if anyone has had any experience dealing with these guys? I searched and couldn't find them mentioned previously... ukgraders.co.uk/28-wwf-wrestlingI've got a handful of old sealed Hasbro figures with badly damaged card, and I'm thinking about sending them off to be graded. (Would be removed from pack their end and 'loose figure graded'.) cheers

Nice mate thanks for the reply. They do certainly look tidy, mine would look much better than the damaged card they are sitting on at the minute.

I have a real problem with these grades figures. The grading firms charge the customer £10 per figure for a rating which takes a maximum of 5 mins and they put it in a fairly nice display case but again this would cost barely anything.
It all stems from unreliable sellers over grading their figures I know and it makes buying and selling safer but there are several sellers who think just because its graded they can sell it for 500% of its value when it's the same figure in a cheap Perspex box with a sticker on. I have also seen figures overrated from UKG with a recent example being a dusty graded at 80% but with a number of chips to the paintwork.
While they add a good service to the collector market I really hope collectors aren't paying huge prices when they can get items graded themselves

This is a good point. I have seen the same in the trading card world. People paying in excess for a graded card, whereas ungraded it wouldn't be worth much at all. Plus grading companies such as Beckett will give a higher grade if you slip them some extra coin. Shady. However in my case, I won't be reselling, and I'm only looking at doing it due to a nicer presentation than keeping my two figures in damaged packaging.

Alot of it is down to the individual. Some people have great collections and but dont care to much on condition of card, others (like myself) will only collect mint carded figures. The problem is they are not readily available locally to most people, so we go to our extortionate online auction sites and buy what is supposed to be a c10, case fresh, mint condition carded figure only to get it through the post in a jiffy bag with a big bend, cracked bubble or worse. so for people who want top quality i can see the advantage of buying graded. its the only way you can guarantee the condition. as far as ukg go - i thought they did a great job, its not just sticking a figure in a case as some might say, the case is completely built around the figure, extra pieces or perspex hold the figure in place and any weapons/parts are also preserved and displayed. My only issue would be time, not a patient person, and 2 weeks was a bit much i though. But overall very good

I agree that some figures are unnecessary to grade - especially regular loose figures grading 80 or 85. I completely agree that these are pretty pointless graded, unless it's your favorite figure or you want a couple for display, or you have one eye on investment and they grade 90.
I think it's different for grading carded figures though, but it really comes down to your own personal collecting preference. I have several carded figures graded, but purely because they are gems and I want to preserve them long term. I have no plans to sell any of my ones. There are some guys on ebay doing it to flip them for easy profit, especially regular loose figures which can be picked up for a couple of quid.
There was a great point made, which I think was a little understated. Too many sellers are unreliable when it comes to accurately describing figures and then sending them safely. I've had several 'mint' carded figures ruined due to inadequate packaging and sending in jiffy bags. As recently as last week in fact. S8 Bret Hart sent in jiffy bag. Completed ruined. Also, people displaying long term on walls, exposing figures to UV rays. I've noticed more and more figures listed with fading issues. To me, they're visually unappealing.
So, if done properly and for the right reasons, grading can have its merits. Standards can vary, but not just UKG. I have had AFA figures and thought, really? That graded 85 (when I thought it was an 80). If your figure is rare (Dusty, Warrior #3 ect.), or they are proper factory mint grade, it is definitely worthwhile because the numbers are certainly diminishing.

Thanks for the comments gents. Specifically I'm not concerned about the overall grade, but the nice display, and as allabouthasbro said, building the actual casing around the figure gives them a really nice finish.
I had planned to send both figures off last week, a Bret Hart and Undertaker from Series 8. As mentioned earlier, badly damaged card. I was going to cut the card around the bubble, to minimise shipping size. I couldn't bring myself to do it... I'm going to have to rethink what I want to do. Maybe replace those two figures MOC so I'll feel a bit better about taking apart? See how I go...
Thanks again for the replies.

Rishgoon - another idea would be to buy them cases - if your not worried about grading then grading will be a bit fruitless for you - and you will be paying for a service you dont want. go for a standard action figure display case - i believe CDP has a nice one, will cost less and look good to

I agree that they look great and to say hey this is graded at xyz but its very expensive and they dont know what we know on this forum. for me am sticking to keep mine in my display cases that i sell at a fraction of the price .
