Just cut the two piece of tape, on one side of the box, and carefully open that side flap, so you don't rip it. You can then slide the plastic casing with the figure out of the box.

You could also get a hair dryer and warm the tape up a little bit, then peel the tape off...BAM! Box preserved!

I'm trying I save the box to later display moc is there a tutorial? Just like drifter said. Cut the tape on one side. Open & slide out figure. Put tray back in & reclose box. I do it all the time. I usually open the flat side since it's easier to get the tray out & back in on that side. Just one problem w/ your logic. Once it's opened it can't be displayed MOC because it is no longer mint. You can display it in package but it will not be MOC.

Yeah for some reason I've been saving all my elite boxes lately. I'm not an MOC collector but I feel the carding is a good display peice. Especially for figs that I hold dearly like E16 Nash and E19 Michaels.
But when you say "new" elite packaging, do you mean the ones that started with E18? Because its the same box just different designs.

I find that for some reason, the right side of the box (or left, when you're looking at the back) is easier to open without tearing. Then again, I don't have nearly as much difficulty getting the tape off as I do pulling the tabs out of the slots without ripping them. If anyone knows a trick to that, I'd be happy to hear it.

I wish they would make the Elite packaging so people could not even open them w/o it being obvious. Ive never seen other toy lines with switching problems like the Elites...

Then again, I don't have nearly as much difficulty getting the tape off as I do pulling the tabs out of the slots without ripping them. If anyone knows a trick to that, I'd be happy to hear it. I usually stick a butter knife down the side of the box. It is hard to descripe but think of the tab on the side of the box, then I am going to take the butter knife and put it the seam in between the tab and the slot where it is tabbed into. Then I give the knife a twist and presto, the tab comes out in one piece with no tears. Do the same for the tab on the bottom. The problem is that if you try to "untab" it at one side, the other side starts to rip. If you can untab the whole thing in one shot it doesn't rip.

There's a flaw in your plan. Once you remove the figure from the box it can no longer be mib/mimb/moc as it had been opened. So either just keep them mib or open them...toss the packages and enjoy the figures.
