Was it true that Yokozuna was suppose to return in 1998 and feud with Austin for the title? If it was that would've been awesome but I wonder if they would've changed his appearnce for the Attitude era.

First I've heard of this. But wasn't he like heading into the 600-700 pounds by then?

he was never meant to feud with Austin.
Vince was trying to save Yokos life by dangling the carrot of a good contract if he dropped to 400.but Yoko told people privately he was aiming for 800 pounds.as sated above the amount of places where he could compete were getting scarce.......and so were the wrestlers willing to work with him and take his moves.

He was originally going to come back in 1997.
I have an article in an issue of RAW magazine from 1997 where "Vic Venom" writes about Yokozuna possibly joining the Hart Foundation.

I gotta say.....Yoko in the HF would have been shiite.I wouldnt have liked that at ALL.
it would have changed the theme they had going on......to just another anti US stable instead of what it was-a genuine family unit.

Agreed completely. It was just one of those Vic Venom rumor articles but it was still teasing his return back then. Yokozuna just could not get his weight under control and McMahon rightfully decided to let him go. He was becoming a liability and was going to hurt himself or his opponent...or worse. They even sent him to a fat camp.

Cornette has said that concern backstage for Yoko was at an all time high.people genuinely liked him and were worried about him.
Cornette(bearer too) has said that Vince was doing his best to save Rodneys life when he canned him.even after he checked on him regularly and was disheartened to hear he had gained even more weight as was his goal.

There's no way Yoko would have joined the Hart Foundation. Although Bret said that Bruce Hart was going to be a member but he blew it by low blowing Austin during the Harts vs Team Austin match.
I honestly don't think Vince would have done much with Yoko even if he did bring him back.
I'm pretty sure that Rick Rude was training for a comeback/feud with Austin at the time of his death.

I heard Rude was training for a return to the ring in 1999, dont think it was to end up against SCSA though as Rude was in WCW back then.
Bruce Hart may have been a Hart, but was worthless. Good job he never ended up in the 5 man HF.
If Yoko had dropped to around 400lbs, Rikishi would never have became the character he was.

all i know is that if a company as unliable as the wwf took responsibility in helping yoko's weight then it must have been a major problem.
samoans are prone to obesity...samoa joe is gaining more and more but obviously at a fraction in comparison to yoko.

Why was he trying to put on weight? I may be wrong, but I think in the Samoan culture weight/girth is enviable. Its seen as a sign of success/wealth/respect

I too recall that a WWF return was in the works. I dont know if Austin was going to be Rudes return program or not though . Still such a shame about him and Yoko.

Yeah thats an interesting one, would he be The Ravishing One or a new character. Similar to Bossman, same name but different persona to the one from the early 90's.

Why was he trying to put on weight? Something about wanting to be the largest professional athlete of all time.
