Anyone who reads my posts know that im a big old school fan growing up on the WWE wrestling from the 80s. I have always kept up with the WWE over the years up until the present. Do you think its strange that a product that is PG with most of their fan base comprised of kids that there arent more colourful characters that are eye catching or grab your attention. Kids love gimmicks with masks and bright coloured suits we see how well the rey mysterios, cenas and sin caras sell so why are we seeing so many bland looking wrestlers in WWE nowadays?
Theres plenty of names i could drop but id rather read your opinions first. When i grew up watching in the 80s i always bought into wrestlers than hardly ever did a promo or were no good wrestling wise but because they were big and colourful they grabbed my attention, the 80s was filled with them. How come we dont see that anymore? Is it a bad thing or a good thing?

Yes i think so. Not even so much colorful i think they just need to seperate themselves now. Everyone wears basic trunks and its the same design. That's what i like about Sin Cara, Cena, and the others who don't wear basic tights and have colors to go with their gear.

Its a good idea, till people start complaining that there's too much goofy characters and the product is not serious enough!

I think people just need to be more creative with their attires, I remember when I wa younger I looked forward to seeing what rvd or jerichos attire was, sometimes I didn't like it other times I loved it but it added to the excitement in some ways of upcoming events. Especially to see what people come up with for mania.
It's funny how I used to look forward I what attire people would wear, what the ppv stage would be and what the results of the matches would be. I really miss it.

Yeah the vast majority of people wear boring trunks and kickers. They need to at least get some more interesting attires.

It doesn't bother me. More superstars get over nowadays based on their raw talent, charisma and mic skills. Gimmicks and eccentric gear have never appealed to me really.

Every time WWE tries to give us some characters with personality, 80% of the IWC throws a hissy fit. Look at the backlash they got over Brodus Clay dancing. Or the Tensai gimmick.
So it's not that WWE doesn't try to have characters. Their just damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I'll be honest, I'd settle for wrestlers to have more gimmick specific entrance music.
I'm fed up of these generic rock entrance themes... and man, i wish they would stop adding unnecessary lyrics to themes... for example, Ryback's theme now is ok, but it was much better as an instrumental

Undertaker and Hulk Hogan are obviously exceptions, but aside from them virtually all the biggest names in wrestling got there without bright colours and over-the-top gimmicks. Michaels, Austin, Rock, Triple H, Bret Hart (okay he wore pink, big deal, so does Damien Sandow), Jericho. All massive stars. CM Punk is a big deal as well as far as I'm concerned, just another guy in wrestling tights of course.

Maybe it's part of the reason why the WWE are struggling to build new stars. they're struggling to build new stars now because they didn't bother to try 10 years ago. Guys are usually in the WWE system for a LONG time before they're stars, as has been seen for years.. But 10-12 years ago, WWE had more stars than they could ever need having just bought out WCW and ECW being handed to them.. So they didn't bother to put the effort into developmental. In 2001, they RELEASED Bryan Danielson. They kind of lucked out that he stuck with it and continued to develop himself. Similarly, in 2005, they had Dean Ambrose under a verbal deal and waiting to sign the actual contract.. and just never bothered. Now with the Austin's, The Rock's, The Undertaker's, and the RVD's of 2001 long gone.. And the guys they already had built and looming at that time now getting washed up (Cena, Orton, Brock) they're struggling, because they don't have anyone really built in the meantime. They had five young guys who they could've groomed into top guys.. They made them male cheerleaders. And were only able to actually salvage one of them. John Morrison was almost there to be a top guy.. And they let him go because his girlfriend is an idiot. Unfortunately, their developmental are mostly all VERY green and very young guys. Sterling James Keenan (and I apologize, I'm blanking on his WWE name) is one of the few that has been working for years and has the experience needed to be a star, but I have my doubts that they'll ultimately push him because of how similar he looks to CM Punk

People don't need gimmicks like Brodus Clay to get over, even it if does help in some cases. Most of the roster just needs any personality at all. Nearly ever mid card face and mid card heel is the same thing. It's great to have diversity like Punk, Bryan, Shield, Cesaro, Swagger, Henry, Ryback, and etc.

CM Punk is a big deal as well as far as I'm concerned, just another guy in wrestling tights of course. All of those guys had attire to define themselves though, i dont mean over the top gimmicks like brodus clay and such. Shawn Michaels had some really cool entrance attire and always changed the colours around on his tights, the rock (shirts, shades) Jericho especially, some of his attire when he cut promos was eccentric and bright along with his hair and beard at the time it was all styled to be different. Lets see who else, Bret Hart (leathers and the shades, the pink and black) Triple H and his denims and the harley hat, Austin i remember wearing camo gear, jeans then ofcourse the waist jacket. All the guys now have short hair and trucks that all look the same, none of them stand out. The guys wrestling currently need something to make them look different especially with the roster as big as it is and many get very little mic time to cut promos etc so u gotta make the most of your character. Why do you think the likes of macho man, warrior spent thousands on their attires? So they could be different, stand out and grab the viewers attention. These are maybe extreme examples but what im getting at is they just need to define themselves better.

More Val Venis, The Hurricane and Santino-esque characters please. RAW isn't the same without them.

We need more:
Goldusts: Bizarre gimmicks that make you ask yourself "WTF?" Hurricanes: Gimmicks that'll be insta-fan favorites and fun for the kids AND IWC. Val Venises: Gimmicks that aren't afraid to be a tad bit edgy. Hardcore Hollys: Characters that just wanna beat the piss out of everybody. Crash Hollys: Characters that make you laugh every time they come out
WWE has the wrestlers to do this. They could bring back Goldust, they could bring back Shane Helms... But theyre getting older and WWE needs somebody to take over those gimmicks if they want to revive them.
