Why is everyone still so excited about getting the basic ryback when his elite will be out soon? It couod be me just because I would rather have a elite than basic of anyone. I just was thinking that everyone knows the elite is coming so why waste time getting the basic. I know the attire will probably be different, but like I said my personal preference is elite well actually legend, but thats a different topic. Anyone have any idea as to a answer to this not that it really matters. I just thought it may make for a decent topic and conversation. The ryback is just the first example I thought of it applies to anyone who has a basic and elite.

I'm with you. I definitely prefer the elite figures and passed on the basic Ryback, Sandow, and Cesaro basic figs. Ryback and Sandow already have elites announced for release very soon and I expect Cesaro will be out by the fall as well. I'll do the same for the Shield as I fully expect them to get basics first but elites to follow within a few months.
I think there are three reasons people get the basics. First, there is the "gotta have it now" obsessive collector impulse. Second, there is the economy factor. Basics are cheaper so many people stick to just getting basics. Third, there are the completists. I don't know how a person can afford to buy every figure Mattel releases, but there are those who do just that.
Whatever the reason, I'm happy for people who get excited for the first in line basic releases and buy them up because the better the sales for a wrestlers' basic figure, the more likely we will get an elite sooner rather than later.

Because it is the first figure of Ryback. Regardless of whether its basic or Elite, guy's been on TV for almost a year in a big role, and his figure was highly anticipated.
Can't use Skip Sheffield in place...same guy, different gimmick.

I could care less about Ryback personally...but I do like the looks of basics more than Elites. To me elites in long tights look great, but anyone in trunks looks like they have a reverse wedgie. Butcas far as basic vs elite goes I really don't care if it's a wrestler I like I'll get it.as ai just display my figures in vanilla poses so extra POA doesn't matter. I see the Basic Ryback ad the base for a Scott Steiner to go with the Rick I made.

Basics make great placeholders for me until I get an elite. Sometimes they go into storage at that point, but with some they are great for displaying clothing or other accesories that you don't want on your elite.
In the case of Ryback however, if he wins a title before his elite figure comes out, there will be a lot of people happy that they bought his basic to display with the belt.

I am an Elite collector but any time I can get a new character for $10 and change, I'm happy to add the basic. He looks cool on my shelf with my other displayed pieces.

I don't love Ryback but its a cool figure and a must have for my collection. The elite coming with a shirt or something isn't enough for me to buy it over a basic.

I get em' all, and rookie figures are my bread and butter. I might be alone, but the rare occasions where I play around (usually just doing finishers and lots of posing) it's with basics. I don't feel comfortable playing with something that cost almost $20, and has a very real chance of breaking. Twenty bucks is half a tank of gas, that puts things in perspective.
